A simple trick you can play on your opponent in the opening game to see how good he is. Hope you find it useful! Don't forget to like and subscribe :) Dan@backgammonisbeautiful.com
Nice one, Dan. What you implied here is that it is very important to know how to play on after making the 2-point and how to counter an opp who has done it. Both sides can lose equity by misplaying the game plan.
Right at this night I give a lesson about 64, IMO 24/18 13/9 is better for us because after that move comes more educational learning structures (learning-equity), and also our opponent on next let's say 5 moves make more mistakes. Year after year I do a 24/18 13/9 and I learn more from this, take more expirience. Everyone can play close to A game after 24/14
Thus tends to be the 'standard' play most players choose, although the benefit of making the two-point is that many misplay the replies. For money, its what Schiemann would call an 'exploitative play'.
I´ll play 64P at even or trailing scores, but otherwise I prefer 64s. Note that a few of the replies can also be less than perfect after the split: 21, 31, 41, 51, 32, 42, 52, 43, 54, 22, 33, 44 and 66.
Yes, sure, match play is different but for money the split is marginally better than the point. But the small equity loss is traded off as the point play allows opponents to misplay the response more often anb give away more equity in return.
I never like splitting a back checker to 22, especially if Green has made his 2-point with an opening 6-4. A double 5 would then see two on the bar with just two opening points to get out on.
If I'm playing a 7-point match, I usually make the 2 point with a 64, as I think it's fractionally better. Also, when you're behind in the match score, it becomes more important to play 8/2, 6/2.
In matches it's recommended to play 24/18, 13/9 with even score, 8/2, 6/2 when trailing and running with 24/14 when leading. Dan, plz correct me if I'm wrong.
@@erforderlich5274 64 making the 2 point is correct in a 5-point match or a 7-point match. But this "is correct" business is kind of misleading because the differences are persistently small. Splitting "is worse" by 0.005 at 5a5a and 0.001 at 7a7a. Nevertheless you can see that people open 64P in the UBC just to save that 1 millipoint.
Great vid again, thx! How to play 64 as a reply to first roll 64: 8-2, 6-2 ? I guess 24-18, 13-9 ? Or should one imitate opponents play by making one's own 2 point?
I don't get (64: 8/2,6/2), 52: 13/8, 24/22 - is it still ok with XG++? Opponent rolls double 5s and you most of the time loose the game. Where as 52: 13/8, 13/11 brings a builder down with no apparent threat. ...puzzled...
I've been thinking and I guess I have to correct myself - even without XG: Double 5s is one roll out of 36; two down gives opponent a good 64, which is two rolls out of 36. - thx man, you're big help.
