As a boat owner for over 20 years...I've never forgotten to take the straps off my front or rear boat, as well as never forgetting about the plug....at least I like to think that. hahaha. You should make a video about ramp etiquette as well. I hate it when people see a ton of boats waiting, yet still sit and tied to the dock shooting the breeze.

great video. Some (when alone)use a long bow line at let it drag off(coiled) the trailer, then grab it after the boat floats. You always have control of the boat.. Then tie it off and go park your vehicle.

Why your boat ramps so good? Mine here in TN are steeper that mountains or just flat and have to back the end of the truck in to launch, and not counting all the huge logs on the ramps all the time and green slimy stuff that is super slippery where I bust my back slipping. And yes that was a very long rant.

@zacboy224

Two things that most folks should do if launching by themselves: First, keep you boat strapped to the winch, so the boat can launch off the trailer and not run away from the docks. Second, start the boat before unstrapping the boat from the winch. I've seen and helped more boaters retrieve their boats that floated away from the dock while they are getting out of their vehicles and if the boat doesn't start, then it will be able to be put back on the trailer.

If you're by yourself, it also helps if you tie a line off to the boat and your truck, just Incase the boat decides to get taken away, and I personally wait til the boat is right at the waters edge before I disconnect the winch AND the safety chain. I have personally had a winch fail and if it wasn't for my chain, the boat would have rolled right off onto the ramp.
@seancowley3193
@seancowley3193 3 года назад
That boat launch procedure looks really cool. If you’re a beginner, do not follow the last step without someway to secure your boat before you get out of the truck when launching solo. All other considerations discussed were great! Also, consider the size of your boat vs the 21 footer vs the wind direction.

@theultimatesteelshooter8610
While this method obviously works for you quite well i dont think most older anglers can do this. I fish alone and am 63 yrs old. I am very fit and agile still as i was in the military for 37 years and i dont think I’d attempt this method. I simple back the boat into the water until the trailer wheels are under water, put my vehicle in park with emergency brake on and then unclimbed the safety strap, climb in the boat, start it up, back off the trailer, tie to dock and then go park my trailer. No chance of the boat ever getting away from me. I also purchased a ‘trick step’ for the bow of the trailer which allows me to climb in and out of the boat without ever getting wet. Most pros i know who fish alone have one …

The easiest way is to drop the tailgate and watch the boat over your shoulder provided you have enough clearance between it and the trailer/ boat. Launching without the boat attached to something is a good way to guarantee you'll be taking a dip to go get it, leave the winch attached then step on the tire to get in the bed and unhook it then either drive the boat over to the dock or shove it back with a bow line attached and pull it over to the dock.

@@TylersReelFishing you can pull up at an angle to the ramp and you don't have to go slow when you're looking right at it. You get it on the first try every time with the boat on or off the trailer. I'm talking about jon boats though, your boat is plenty wide enough to see in both mirrors. I just got a boat with a 92" beam but I'm so used to my old 1448 that i still look over my shoulder.

I prefer to power off the boat that way it's never out of my control when it comes off the trailer. You do this by only putting the trailer in far enough to let the friction from the bunk boards hold the boat which is usually when the water hits the top of the trailer tires. Fire up the engine and back the boat off usually just takes a little blip of the throttle to pull the boat off the bunks.
