This channel provides you with technological information on mechanical design (CAD). Mechanical Engineering design is the application of engineering principles and Mechanical engineering technologists are expected to apply current technologies and principles from the machine and product design. The Ceylon CAD will provide you with new and various designs, concepts, and knowledge to design, and Solid works are used to create all videos on this channel.

Nicely shown old ideas. There are all asynmmetrical though and need not be. The cheap way of achieving a taper push apart thread as seen in 'three' is as follows. Use a screw threading tap but only the first taper tap. Then insert a grub screw and it will push apart the thread wall sides. Very useful for making a central plug to hold something cylindrical on a lathe. Turn a centrally fitting piece, drill the centre, tap with the first tap, then cross cut and insert grib screw and watch the four quadrants move out.

to let it last longer ... both side have to be the same length !

Two straightforward ways of accomplishing the goal. They are superior to spring loaded design for use in machining applications where tool forces are bi-directional and nut offers good rigidity in one direction and only spring force to overcome tool force in the other direction. Your third method... not so impressive. A thread with sufficient taper to accomplish this would be far from easy and cheap. Good ideas. I would not worry about a difference in strength caused by differing thread length between the two sides of the nut. If it is an issue you could simply split the nut in the center.

The design proposed by "Smart Ideas" is good if we already know the amount of backlash present at the system. In the other side, a spring loaded design allows for dynamic compensation of backlash. That is, wear of parts over time and different backlash in different regions of the parts can be compensated using spring loaded with bearing.

Yes. That is a good point.

Why not use a bearing and press it into the thread?

Third option kinda hard to machine out, yeah? First one definite my first choice for ease of application.

Asymmetrical loading on the threads will give poor longevity and diminished capacity due to uneven wear on the adjusting nut.

old idea, I have a 1930's lathe with similar backlash adjustment and another with a tapered wedge adjusting the split nut with EVEN force giving even wear. Sorry but your design variations of a old idea are poor

yes we know this is old, i suggest just a concept. modern black-lash compensated nut are available in general market or someone can develop this, but anyway thanks for your opinions

It works, but the system have not the same strength in both directions.

I would make a tight fitting nut (0,02mm end play) and fill the rest of the play with oil of somewhat high viscosity, adjusting would be by tapered OD of the nut forced into tapered sleeve by a fine pitch nut. It would be expensive but good. Also the nut would be long AF and in oil bath completely with a pump filling the nut with pressure oil all the time. But that's only if very good leadscrew nut system would be needed
