You honestly don't even know how helpful this video was for me! I've just started the process of planning my trip and had so many questions.. you just answered them all! Haha definitely subscribing, thank you so much!
I'm starting in Cairns and plan on working my way down to Victoria for winter, then back up to the Goldcoast for summer... but I have a whole year so who knows.. that's all part of the fun isn't it? hehe. :P xx
Uncle Brian’s rainforest tour wow brings back memories. They were on go in 2005. We got hammered on the bus and provided extra entertainment. Them were the days 😎
As a Sydneysider, I'd strongly recommend visiting Melbourne (trendier city than Sydney, better vibes for nightlife, lots of nice rooftop bars), Tasmania for vast expansive hikes and also Darwin to see wild crocs.
Hey!! thanks for all this!! im going in 10 days n im planning everything I want to do.This vid gave me lots of ideas!!! and the good vibes!!! thanks a lot!
Hey Mollie, I loved your video! I plan to go to Australia one day, and your tips where very helpful for me. Australia seems to be a perfect place to visit, especially in the summer. Thanks for the tips about places to go, I think that Hervey Bay and Byron Bay are amazing destinations and they are on my list of "Places to visit before i die".
Watching this video as an Australian is hilarious - hahahahah its not called a shrimp its called a PRAWN and they are really only eaten in mass consumption around Christmas time! They are alot of cheaper places to go than Sydney its SO expensive. Glad you enjoyed your time here! :) x
I went in 04 (NY) and 05. It's my half century in January 018 so am frantically saving for this date to celebrate. I also love the country. My ultimate faves was Fraser Island and the NYE fireworks.
i have lived in sydney my whole live and would recommend going up around the northern beaches. SO much better than Bondi where there are basically only tourists
Madi Cook> just catch the ferry to Manly from Sydney. This is the first of the northern Beaches. From there you just head north along the coast and there are quite a few beaches. The most northerly beach is Palm Beach where they film Home and Away. You could probably walk to the first few beaches but after that you will need transport. There are public buses..
Mollie, i saw your IG post that you’re coming here in Australia. And figured i’d watch this previous video of yours. I’d highly recommend that you go to Blue Mountains in Sydney, it’s amazzing😍
Really enjoyed this video! me and my brother go to Sydney in Easter to stay with family and I'm so excited, would love to see more videos on Australia! xx
lilmizee zee i have gopro footage from australia going live on my youtube soon - so you will be able to get a proper insight into backpacking the east coast! :) x
VIOLA! i hope you see this because it's not giving me the option to directly reply to your message! :) In Byron Bay we stayed in 2 different places. First was Byron Bay Holiday Village where we stayed in a self contained apartment with 4 others (same price as hostel!) so had a shared kitchen etc which was nice. Second was Aquarius which is closer to the beach. I'd recommend both - apartment is nice for christmas itself as you can cook a roast etc! I took a mini backpack aswell as my main backpack, so during the day i took my gopro, laptop, phone, swimstuff, passport etc around with me in that. For the festival i left my laptop and things i really didnt want to damage at a friends house in Byron, but there are also locker options at the travel agents in Byron for which you can pay to leave stuff. It's a hard one with electronics, my gopro was perfect for the festival because i could pop it in my bumbag and keep it on me, but with a DSLR its a bit more weighty, but obviously would mean amazing photos! I'd say just take your iphone /gopro to festival to be safe! Hope that helps :) Mollie x
hi i saw your New Zealand video it was really well done and i enjoyed seeing it i used to backpack years ago and your video brings back that feeling of discovering new places with friends
Haha! i will be living in Adelaide. Here in Canada it is averaging about the same 13 degrees, but it is spring time/beginning of summer so that is normal, haha. So weird how our seasons are opposite.
Really like this video - you said everything quick and to the point - was super helpful. Thank you so much! Did you skydive and scuba dive. If you did how much was the cheapest? Company? How is couchsurfing in Australia? Legend!! Cheers!
When you say total spent is 1300 pounds, does that include 500$ for Fraser Island tour and the cost of all the other tours that you took? Loved your video btw. Thanks in advance.
Omg thank you so much! When im older, me and my friend really want to go to Australia on holiday and then hopefully move there a couple years after and I found this video extremely helpful, thank you
Chloretta Scott: The beginning Was there something in particular you were thinking of? of course australia is still well and truly alive in sept and oct, spring for them so will be warming up :) x
Mollie Bylett You made my day Mollie , I have been in Australia five times and I believe is one of the most beautiful place on earth ..............aussie aussie aussie .....
Good advice for backpackers. When travelling Australia, see if you can talk to locals who have travelled Australia, they will tell you about places that tourists haven't heard of and are more beautiful than the tourists attractions.Eg Kanangra Boyd national park nsw ,near Bue mountains region. You seem to be a a very nice lady and hope you can return to australia and travel the roads less travel
Steve Klimentos Yes definitely! talking to locals is the best way to see a country as you get to know about the cheaper and less touristy places hey! :) thank you very much - i hope to return too :)
Hiya, I was just wondering how you went about pre booking your hostels? I'm going this Christmas and new year and want to pre book hostels but I'm not sure how long it will take me to get to each location and how long I want to stay there. I'm going on my own this year and panicking already ahaha xx
This video was so useful - thank you so much! My friend and I are planning to do the East Coast in 6 weeks this December-January. I was just wondering where you stayed in Byron Bay since the Christmas period is really busy and we're planning on spending Christmas there. Also, what did you do about your electronics both during the day/when you did outdoor activities and also when you went to the Falls Festival? Did you only take your GoPro? I'd like to take a DSLR but I'm not sure. Viola x
Hi Mollie! Great video. May I ask how you got to Cairns if your trip started there ? Did you fly to syndey and then get another flight up to Cairns and then use the bus coming back down? I want to go to Bali after doing the east coast.. what would your travel / route recommendation be ? Thank you
Hey Mollie, Did you travel alone, or with someone else? Is there lots of travellers travelling alone and would you have felt/did you feel safe doing it alone? Thanks!
Thanks for the info:) im planing to go on 3nov!!!.... so fucking exicited. The only thing i dont do is making a plan!... i wanna work and travel and i will see what it brings!.
I'm only halfway through the video but this is so helpful! I'm in Sydney right now and really want to do the Sydney to Cairns in April/May, so thank you :) Did you find any good Places to go out in Sydney? :)
Im off to Australia in 5 months solo. I reaaally want to head to Byron Bay. The only concern is transportation. I planned on flying with Jetstar but say I fly to Gold Coast, is there shuttles or something that can bring you there and back?
+Stephjackson10 Hey Steph, sorry to just jump in here, but I have some WA videos on my channel - I lived there as a teenager and went to school there so there's a nice mix of 'local' things in Perth and touristy things I like to do :) they might help!
You have a lovely singing voice .I hope you are able to sell an album in Australia and New Zealand because you are so talented .A gentleman who works for us called Lance Smith always does gigs.he often plays at Fortune of War an Irish pub at the Rocks Sydney.when travelling overseas ,you could do it too.Best of luck
Awesome video! Just a few questions! What type of backpack would you recommend for a trip like this? And is it easy to get around with the greyhound? Thanks:)
Thank you Taylor! The greyhound is super easy to use! When you book you get a login and password to use online and then you can view the timetables and book your trips on the website :) I took a 65L backpack i would say anything from 60-80L will do the job :) (unless you're a terrible packer) here's the one i took: fave.co/1EbiJuW Let me know if you have any other questions! :) Mollie x
about how long did you stay at each location and would it be better to bus from place to place? i've really been wanting to travel to AUS but after watching so many of these videos i'm kinda leaning towards backpacking AUS instead but i'm still iffy since it'll be a solo travel.
Hi Mollie, love your videos super informative :) I saw on your go pro video that you went to a festival in Byron Bay I think it was. I wondered how you booked this/found out about it/how much it costs? Thanks :) xxx
Katy O'Brien Thanks lovely! :) Yes we did - Falls Festival. I did a blog post with all the info on which you can view here - www.molliebylett.com/2015/03/the-falls-festival-byron-bay-new-year.html Let me know if you have any other questions
Travelled with a friend and then met people along the way! Lots of people do it solo - and there are lots of helpful solo travel articles online so have a google search :) Hostels are a great way to start, you will meet lots of other people travelling solo :) Dont let it stop you! x
Every Aussie that hears 'Put a Shrimp on the barbie' just about vomits in their mouth. We eat Prawns, you go Prawn fishing and shizz in our Ausland lakes. It's pretty rare to see Shrimp on the menu.
Hi! My best friend and I are planning our Australia trip for next year but we aren't too sure where to stay when we go to Fraser Island...any ideas? :) X
+Holly Mead Fraser island is tour based so it's best to book onto a 2/3 day tour to explore the island! :) You can see my trip with cooldingotours.com on my blog here: www.molliebylett.com/2015/01/fraser-island-exploring-worlds-largest.html
hey - great vids - i just got back from 3 months and i am desperate to make a slideshow/video with all my photos and videos but i cant seem to find anywhere to do it - how do you add photos and vids to yours?
Hi Mollie, I am planning to go to Australia but I still have a question. I am going alone to Australia because my boyfriend has just switched jobs and can not take off that amount off time. how did you meet people and did you leave on your own first? thanks for answering :)
+Ashley Coppens I headed out and met a friend when i got there so i didn't do it on my own. But you will be absolutely fine if you head to hostels - you will meet lots of other solo travellers! If you need a confidence boost - book onto a tour to get you started :) e.g. oz intro through STA travel!
When is the best time of year to go to Australia? I an aware they have different climate regions because the country is so huge. The plan is to travel from Adelaide up and round the east coast, finishing in Cairns over a three month period. Was thinking about March/April time to start?
It's hard to say because like you say it's a massive country and you will cross many climates along the way. As far as i know, places like melbourne / sydney will cool down after march time as their peak summer is dec - march, but as you move up the coast towards queensland it will get a lot warmer. The time you are going is also dry season so less rain - which is great :) i'm not an expert though - hope this helps :) x x x
with the route or with the booking? you cant go wrong with a camper in australia and as for ratpack travel - my friend sammy owns it and he is the best in the business!
