BackpackingAdventures Cooper is very easy on camera, and yes it is a lot of fun putting together his video - the little ham, lol! Always appreciated Rob, thanks again!
There was so much in this video ... where to start. I love the camera gear. Drooling is a good description. Then the power pack and solar panel and I love the fact that you purchased it anyway. Not going to be influenced by free gear. Awesome. Not sure I would be over the moon about your stew but that is just me. Thank you for sharing. Now I want a camera slider. LOL
EconoChallenge Haha Jeep - the stew is an acquired taste, texture included I'll bet. Sliders are a fun effect. You should check-out the DIYs, I'm sure you'd be challenged and come up a great packable friendly one. This one is heavy. Thanks! All the best Agent Smith!
Justin Burrell Thanks Justin! Can't wait to be taking hiking pictures, like yours of the night sky and eagles in flight (well maybe never that good - lol)!
Wow now I get to watch cooper and the great outdoors in vivid detail and color on my large screen tv as I work! The footage from the Sony Nex 5T looked amazing on the big screen TV. Very impressive. So congrats on the Tech Toys a long ways from the old Creative Vado LoL.
Nice selection of cameras you got ther Bill. I have the same Sony pocket cam as yours. I really enjoy it. I also got a mirroless camera a month ago. Fuji XT-1. Mirroless are small they take great photos and the Future of Photography. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
ExpeditionMarc Thanks Marc! Your Fuji - you got yourself a nice one - it's WR right? These smaller cameras are amazing - enjoy playing with RAW (and ISO and aperture and shutter speed... lol)!
Yes the WR one. I don't shoot Raw i shoot JPEG. I prefer to set the right exposure in camera and be done with it. Also the file size of Raw can get ridicules. I shot aperture priority 90% of the time. I'm guessing you will to. I will post a video shortly on mine. Cheers
Yep Hollywood cooper now has his own production equipment Awesome , And that stew looked good also. Now I cant wait for the cooper cam footage and bloopers you know there coming.
Jared Price He sure does, and he has his cameraman well trained. You're right on with the bloopers already - hung-up on a branch, several attempted shake offs - we'll see how he goes in the water...
TomsBackwoods So the question I have for you Tom - what about you and oyster stew? lol - you don't have to answer that. (I did hear Mountain House is working on it).
***** LOL believe it or not I have only recently tried oyster's . I like them! I'm always up for something new! I'm down for some oyster stew buddy!! LOL come on Mountain house!
I have been using that same Rav power pack for about a year now. Love it. Perhaps I should do a video, but there are already a lot of them on youtube. Thabks for sharing.Peace
Cragdwella Hey Craig - good to know you're doing better and on the mend. Nothing but pluses for the Ravpower all the way around the table. (I also picked up an extra battery for my smartphone from them). Wouldn't hurt to give them an honorable mention. Get back out there when you can, better than ever before...
Pawoodsman Thanks Jim! I'd would go with the Nomad 13, or something similar if you want it to to charge your phone directly. With mine, I have to charge using the battery pack. I use the panel to charge the Ravpower battery pack.
Really like your videos. Catching up from years past. It's funny but we have almost the same gear in tents any I'm a hammock hanger too! Still trying to figure out your location, it all looks SO familiar! I'm in Everett now but grew up in PA. I'm thinking the west, probably the wet west. :-D Not much snow this year, but spring is looking good. I would love to get together for a hike and or a beer if your interested.
Wolfgang Greystoke Definitely the wet west - I'll bet we'll run into each other. You'll see me with Cooper, a sure give away. The hammocks would be another. I'll drop you a line. Thanks for offering!
Michael Phillips Appreciate your input and watching. I have more fun cooking than showing gear. It tastes better too. I passed along a belly scratch to Cooper ; )
Great outing with U-2 as always. Glad we tagged along 4 the venture. Thanks 4 sharing with us here, Friends. Happy Trails From the Maritimes In Canada ATB Terry " GOD BLESS "
Mudtoa Outdoors This spoon spatula is a nice addition. I forgot to mention the spatula is easily removed and replaced. I'm hoping to catch up too. Thanks!
Always good to see what tech you're using and how it's working for you. I have the same RAVpower and it's been great. I keep it with me everyday in a pack and it has come in handy many times. I've been looking at the nomad 7 & 13 as well. The 13 is over a pound, but would you trade that extra weight for 6 more watts? Oyster stew looks marvelous!
CampfireTalk Really happy with the Ravpower, and does it ever hold a charge - great unit. It matches really well with the Nomad 7 - you kinda need a unit like the Ravpower for the 7. The Nomad 7 doesn't have the output on it's own to power larger screen smartphones or tablets. That power has to come from the charged by Nomad 7 Ravpower battery pack. The Nomad 13 has the "smart/pad" power. And the 13 supports the Goal Zero Sherpa systems. I traded the less weight/less power/less $$ because I had the Ravpower battery pack. Hope this helps - happy to return some tips your way...
Love the Cooper Cam set up. Thanks for the look at the Sony cameras. I'm in the midst of selecting a new camera. Have always been an Olympus user, but their mirrorless cameras are getting spendy.
Random Button Pusher Happy to help out on showing the Sony line. I had to wait a while and opt for an older model to afford this first mirrorless for me - you are right, spendy indeed. Good luck in your search. Let me know what you get. It would be fun to know how your research gets you what you're looking for.
Hey look it's Coooooooper and that man that feeds him! lol really must see video you have made Bill! Absolutely love the SporkSpat and i'm thinking I might have tried to eat the stew with the Spat end :P The HandiCam is super cool, going to Google that sucker, hopefully it's not to spendy. Thanks atb Don
Don Milligan Hey Don, it's Cooper's camera man here - lol! I thought about using the spat end for the stew - seemed a bit too wide. BTW - the spat does pull off if you want to use it as a long handle. It presses back on easily too. A really great idea from Snow Peak I thought. Prices are coming down on the vid cams since 4K has come out. Never was a believer in WiFi until I started playing with the Action Cam - it's really handy. Enjoy it out there Don!
Great review - I'm researching for my next camera, so that was great information. I too am thinking of getting a new, but less recent model, as I've heard a couple of RU-vidrs recommend. What do you think of the Goal Zero (Nomad 7)? Love the idea of homemade granola bars. Must be fun having Cooper along... Cooper Cam... With all that fur, you must have to check him carefully for ticks? Thanks for sharing - Cheers & atb
+BooBook Blogger Thanks! I just saw the release of a possible future camera (maybe once the price settles down) the Sony A6300. The A6000 is now an excellent buy. As for a Handycam, the AX53 is just around the corner. Sorry if I'm sounding too Sony. I have not used the Goal Zero at all. Rechargeable battery banks are easier to pack and give out plenty of charge time. It's funny how systems can change so quick. Cooper is my little buddy. We a really fortunate in western Washington - not a real tick problem. When it does get warmer I do check just to be safe. Cooper also carries a tick key (puller) on his backpack harness. Appreciate you watching, commenting and asking!
Great review as always. It seems with that solar panel and battery setup you could be completely sustainable. Do you feel that you could just have power indefinitely with that? Thanks
Miles Papineau Thanks for stopping by! The solar panel and battery has worked out really well together. I charge and power my devices from the battery pack. The panel charges the battery pack. Around here - if its not raining then we are sustaining - its been hit and miss to often lately.
Hey again Bill, so how has the Nomad 7 and the RavPower cell been doing? Are they holding and how much use are they getting? How long does it take to charge something, say like your phone from the RavPower, if time is of the essences? Mark..
+hoobilly 65 Hey Mark, thanks again! I don't use the Nomad 7 much - it's a bit heavy, and so is the RavPower. They both are very nice units and work well together. I can get a working charge for my smartphone in about 10 minutes. I carry a much lighter USB battery pack that gets the job done, one time, in a pinch.
Understand, I bought my wife and I a "POCKETJUICE" charger from Walmart at Christmas and have used a few time. They take a while to recharge whatever and are the size of two Zippo's, but they were like $10 and weigh as much as my Galaxy S4 phone, soooo.. It has a regular USB and a Micro USB port for whatever you need. But don't have a good camera yet, except what's on the phone
My goal the last couple years is to find a good quality RU-vid camera that is is also easily pocketable. Since the late 90's I've pretty much purchased Canon's (one Panasonic in there...) but here the past 6-9 months I've really been eying the Sony Rx100 models and will probably settle on the RX100 M2. For me, it seems the best options which is still reasonably priced... I'd also like to ask what format, frames/sec and Mbps you render your videos for upload to RU-vid. I've been playing some and it looks like a lower frame rate might give better resolution in the compressed RU-vid version (less motion blur when passing vegetation)
***** I've had good luck with Sony lately. The last one for me was a step up to learn more about photography - different lenses and camera settings, etc. I'm pleased with them. I use Movie Maker for final production and give YT a wmv file. They are rendered at 1920 x 1080, bit rate: 24000 kbps and a frame rate: 30 fps. The files are big. I'm thinking of switching to lower rates at some point.
Nice video! How much does your Ravpower weight? I think they are rated at 15000mAh my battery is rated at 10000 and its weight is 7.8oz.. Looks like the spoon extender work great.
Frank Hodges The extender and spat worked great. I really like it. Thanks again for them Frank! The RavPower weighs 10.25 ounces. It does have some heft to it.
Hey Bill, how would you rate the Sony Action Cam verses a Go-Pro? Now I'm thinking of a Nikon D series (and lenses) for its versatility, but I like how your using Sony becuse its lightness! Do you always use your phone for the WiFi monitor? Needing to replace a older Sony Handycam that takes FOREVER to upload! Mark...
hoobilly 65 I wish I could rate the Sony vs Go-Pro for you - I don't have any experience with the GP. I judged Sony's image sensors for all three of my Sony cameras. Always had good results. Price also helped me decide. Have you tried transferring directly from the memory card to your computer? I use that method and the file transfers are faster. Hope this helps.
Bill, I've tried from the memory card directly and from the camera it's self. It could be the laptap! It's 6 years old, but the Handycam is a little older too! Maybe the files are to big?? In any case, I think the Sony may be the way to go, it's cheaper A. And B, as for what you have done, I like it's imagery. Mark..
Right on, that's the thing though isn't it!? mobility -vs-weight. man that's a tuffy, lol.. Speaking of, which would be better over all, the MSR Big Brother or the Warbonnet S/F? Via would have to stove pipe jack the S/F TOO!...
+hoobilly 65 Smokehouse on Hammock Forums makes a hammock tent for wood stoves with a stove pipe jack - very nice setup. I'm impressed with his (very much like a SuperFly that's fully enclosed) tailored for hammocks.
No wonder your never on You-tube, Cooper has the camera clamped down. My Joey passed on the 14th, very sad to see him go. ;-( (Only Dogs go to Heaven anyways). I love Coopers Sony what's the Model #? I start my outings Thursday for 1 night @ #KinBeachProvincialPark then fly to #Alberta for a 3 month trek in my wheelchair alone.
Stephen Bradley Oh Stephen, so sorry to know about Joey, so very sad indeed. Do you know the Rainbow Bridge Poem? (rainbowsbridge.com/poem.htm) We like to think they will be waiting for us ; ) Cooper's Action Cam is the HDR AS20. It comes with the water resistant mounting case. Please say you'll capture and share your up and coming adventures. Those look wonderful. Enjoy it out there Stephen!
***** Thank you, I am in #Calgary now till Wednesday its snowing here lol but Wed. Is supposed to be in the 60's good enough for me... I like Cooper's Mini cam and I will check to see if they have it up here so I can attach it to my chair. I will post everything on G+ I am camera shy, Joey like Cooper stole the Stardom pictures. Take care and kiss Cooper for me. ;@)
