Man I was fortunate enough to pick up a couple rods from him a couple years ago. Checked his site out again about a month ago. A was kicking around the next rod I wanted to pick up. Just went back to the site. It no longer exists. Unfortunately he must of closed the business up. Definitely sucks. Because in comparison to few others I’ve seen in person the others couldn’t hold a candle to his. Definitely had hopes of grabbing the fly rod from him. But looks like that won’t be happening.
Hi There, I should have looked further. I found the info I needed in this video. I am the mom backpacking the 49.5 mile hike with son and friend that had asked for sizes. Thank you so very much for making this video. Happy trails. 🤓
Can you say rubber bisquit? Hey Alan I have a Coleman Pen Kit with a closed face spinning reel. I haven't fished with it yet but looking forward to giving it a try. It's an old kit that I got new in the box and never used. Hope you catch enough dinner. The recent rains may help a bit.
I put a small fly on the spin rod with a tiny split shot, casted on a trail, and a lizard rushed out and bang, caught my 1st reptile on a fishing rod. true story
have you heard of tenkara fishing? if not you should look it up..its the perfect style for backpacking and the poles weight 1.5-3.0 ounces max..i have a graphite breakdown crystal river fly/spinning combo similar to this one here but i am about to get into tenkara style fishing for backpacking
matanuska high yes, had two rods for a couple years, highly impracticable for backpacking. too long, too high when removing the fish. I backpack into tight canyons, this penrod is far superior when it comes down to practical use. I gave one tenkara away to the dude from the original duel Dave, survival and sold the other.
nice kit , i would not mind owning one myself . i never fly fished before but there used to be a lot of things i never did . i have one of those compartment boxes in my fishing kit as well , great box . 25 foot cast off the bank is fine imo , even off a boat , i do some drift fishing and its slow and serene . but it puts fish in the pan . 267
very slick set up there! Does a fly line come with the fly reel? If so, what line weight is it?I recently bought a seven piece fly rod for back packing, but this looks very interesting as well. Some small lakes I hike into have bush tight to the shore line and I need a spinning rod this combo would work there and save space and weight in my pack.
Very nice, just watched Intense Anglers vid too. They're not available from the PenRod site till 2015 dagnabit but looking forward to procuring one. Cheers
Nice little mobile fishing kit Alan, I haven't used my pen rod and reel yet, my wife bought me a set for my birthday :) Looking forward to your hike vids. Cheers......Les. .
PHARRAOH So how did you like it? I have the goliath rod with a deep spool fly reel and love it! I have video of CATHING SNOOK! here in south Florida using it. I just uploaded a video of catching a TARPON using a micro spinning rod! Epic fight but Camera wasn't turned on til the end. Wasn't planned on filming that night but I got some of it on the video. Check it out and sub if you like my content!
That kit is pretty cool. The way you have it set up, you could sell it. I always wonder how durable the rods are. I might put together my own after seeing this video. Thanks.
I will be fishing overseas in different islands and looked for fishing poles and reels that I can hide in a small back pack for low profile purposes, then I found the penfishingrods online. However, I was sent the wrong reels when I ordered, which is the MX 15, then guess what? Anthony sends me the right one which is the FD 100 for free. I also ordered a backup Goliath fishing pole, but there was one thing I didn't really like about it and Anthony replaced it for free. I ordered 4 fishing poles and now I have an extra one. I ordered 2 reels and now I have an extra one. The wrong reels that was sent to me, by the way, I give it a 10 out of 10. You can feel the reels are smooth and sturdy with small gears that are perfectly, I mean perfectly made. The extra fishing pole I didn't really like has great action and ended up catching a 3 lb bass with no problem. At first, I had doubts about these items, but now I'm so glad I invested on the Penfishingrods. I rate this company an 11 out of 10. Their more than perfect. Thank you man.
Awesome little kit. Just about all you really need for fishing in the Sierra mountains.. I've wondered how well those tiny fly reels work. I would guess you don't bother putting backing on behind the fly line since it's so small. What kind of fly line do you use? Thanks for the wonderful video. I look forward to seeing your up coming adventure. Think I would pack a few power bars just in case. Plus you can always use some for bait. Hope your having a great weekend Alan. Been raining here almost every day for over a week. Your probably getting some of that too. Cheers! :-)
Carson Axtell I have the line you mention, I believe s/a makes it. its a good line. I have 30' of backing if I remember right. I used a blood knott and made a 3" piece of 6# line with a loop to quickly attach leaders lake side
i actually made a welded loop knot with water proof super glue that was small enough to go thru the guides however the guides are too small for the line to really shoot out great idea but not very good for fly fishing in my opinion if they make one exclusively for fly fishing with bigger guides id love to try it
I just bought it to replace one a cool guy sent me that broke. I like the rod, I lean to the side that IF you are ok with a fly rod, it's a decent product. If your a beginner, chances are you will break it learning g and it IS NOT, a good rod to learn on! I, AND MOST would recommend a 9' 5 wt. to learn on and fish with at least for a year or so. As for the spin rod, if your ok with a ultra lite set up, you'll do ok with this one. With 4lb (good line), the drag set, patients and some skill, a huge fish can be lanced. In the details, there is a link to a world record carp caught on it
yaks6312 had no use for them. didnt really enjoy going out shooting, hunting is useless with the near extinction of most of the game in the area. so, what use are they, defense some say, against what? I have no enemies in the world, nor would I ever desire such.
Diego Ortiz on the website they do have the fishing pole they do have the real they have tackle boxes and lures as stated in the details above and as spoken in the video the case I made myself out of a 22 caliber handgun case you can pick these up a Big 5 for about $11 and make your own really easy just set the pole in and cut the foam that's all there is to it
@@PHARRAOH Thank you for the response. I do a lot of camping and fishing from a motorcycle and this looks to be about as perfect a setup as one could get. 30ft flyline, most are about 90ft. Was this cut down and if not, what brand?
Jessie Claros As Told in the description and told in the video, I made this, that's not for sale. They don't sell these, means you have to make your own. You must get creative. but there's a Lincoln detail or you can buy the fishing pole, Reel and tackle Box
+Scott Schoemann BUT, it was a good day to die! And he had a blast in life, lived without being paranoid of life. There not so bad, the glass is half full guy, no worries ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nXeO0GpC9Qw.html
@@devinm9245 the Truth ? you can't handle the Truth . It wasn't a bear but if you really want to know all you gotta do is follow the sound of The Banjo . So you don't get lost. You don't wanna get lost do ya ?
my fiirst words say (I MADE THE CASE, out of a gun case) and the rods reels and tackle box are found at the site the links in the details above take you too.
Santa I would like one of these please, I've been a real good boy. Ok a good boy. Ok a pretty good boy. OK OK, I've been bad but I still want one! Nice neat setup Alan! Take care on your trek, Ron
PHARRAOH yeah I'm sure it does. I thing it's awesome but To me it looks like a large case but that's judging by a video. And I do have a question, does the fly reel work good?
most fresh water smaller reels are click and prawl. No use for a drag. It's been that way since the 1800's, if it's not broke, don't fix it. It casts like a fly rod, I can get all 30' of line in the air and shoot another 5 or 10' of backing with the wind in my favor
Nice job indeed, I'm heavy into ultralight fishing when I venture out. Your kit looks store bought when you open it. You gave me some great ideas. Thanks man!
the owner asked me to say and write each time I show the case that I made it, he does not sell it. He said the phones were ringing off the hook to buy the case and set up :-)
I dont use them but if the need comes up, I can use a small floating minnow lure, remove the trebel hook and tie the leeder to it where the treble hook was. good to go
jakobe75 I own a pocket fisherman. I plan on buying a pen rod too though. I'm on my second pocket fisherman since my other one broke when I moved. That one was the original popiel pocket fisherman that came out in the 1970's. I have a ronco pocket fisherman now. I actually love it. I've been looking for the original instant fisherman for a long time. I find knock offs, but I'm looking for a real as seen on TV instant fisherman.
way too cold and wet. I just walked in from a great trek to a few mines, video to come soon and not one snake at all and I looked hard for them. lots of bats
kenith the gun case and common gun case there's nothing to tag. what I'd tag,? hey remember tag is being a game and I was a kid listen to the words on the video it tells everything
kenith smith the one in the video is the original small one just order the pen rod Backpacker and then take it with you to the store and buy a case that fits it's easy
Gave away all your guns? Why on Earth would anyone give away guns. Cool idea on the penrod kit, got mine several years ago I think before You Tube even existed? They had them at Sportsmens Warehouse, I keep mine in survival bag in my truck. I need to get one of the fly reels though.
well, the backpacker will out cast the smaller, due to bigger spool allows line to leave easier and the 6' allows a more powerful cast but the smaller will being in just as big if fish, it packs smaller and works well in tight brush, if that helps. Also the backpacker allows regular/standard size reels to be used, so if she has a reel already and for example your car camping and can lug along the other reel, it allows quick change for use if a huge loss of line or something is present
Lovely! I use my little pistol case to carry my gemshorn. Fishing gear is a better idea :D. Fun to see your individual items. Delightful. Thanks. Jules
Amirul Ariq . why would I give this free I do not work for this company I do not get them free if I'm going to give them to somebody else I must buy them I must pay shipping and handling I am not rich I'm sorry I can't do this I have a child's I barely make enough money for her and for us to stay under my roof and put food in her mouth
PHARRAOH So paranoia is the only reason someone needs a firearm? Good thing the founding fathers didn't think that way. I do feel a need for them because without the second amendment all the other amendments are out the window. No fail on my part.
***** well, our so called government also gives us the right to buy and smoke drugs, marry men with men, woman with woman and many other things. I choose NOT to take part in these either. If you feel the need to push your rights and (partake) is every so called founding fathers rights lay upon you, go for it, party on Garth, I choose not to and have no interest to hunt with guns, I think it week and unsportsmanlike like. How hard is it to point a barrel and pull a trigger? If, I were to hunt, it would be with my bow. As for protection, I have never had the need for a gun, nor would I ever take a human life. If it is my time, so be it. I am not in fear of death. It is part of life and I am at peace with this. Your failure, to understand people see the world, it's paths and ways of walking them different. As for my bushmaster .223, AK, rugar, glock and a few others, I lost interest in firing them and they became dead weight.
PHARRAOH That's certainly you right but just because people choose to uphold the 2 amendment doesn't mean they're "paranoid". And actually hunting with any weapon is WEAK. Face a bear the way he faces you...with what God gave him.
50 seconds in, I say I made this out of a gun case. If you want one, do the same, the fishing gear is available at the site the link in the details beloew the video takes you to. thanks for watching
