Especially the hydration piece. I've found that hikers, including myself, tend to drink less in cold weather because stopping to filter water oftentimes means sweat starts to cool off and you start to get cold. Hikers oftentimes don't realize that they sweat just as much while kicking steps when compared to hiking in the summer heat. And there's the problem with water sources being frozen when you need them most.
What's your go to evening snack to eat before bed to help keep you warm at night in the backcountry? Would a warm beverage with some MCT oil fit the bill?
My go-to is a packet of nut butter. No prep, no clean up, takes up minimal space in my pack and low food volume. Doesn't feel like a meal right before bed. A warm beverage with a source of fat would certainly work. Hope you're having fun out there!
You're welcome and glad you're enjoying our recipes. 😊 Just be careful that you don't crash and burn if you don't pack enough extra food. Hitting the wall is the worst!
