Loved it! Thanks for letting us enjoy it too! Good to see that you have good times and bad and don't JUST show the beautiful shots and the fun stuff. Adventures can only occur when you encounter the unexpected!
Been to glacier a bunch of times, and everytime is just like the first.you can never get use to all that beauty. Going to road trip there this September, then down to Yellow stone,,from there over to the salt flats to enjoy speed week
Beautiful video Catherine, I have hike lots of times in Glacier. I know the snow fields can be tricky, Glacier has always been my favorite park. Can't wait to be back. Hiking in Montana in a week in the Pintler mountains, part of the CDT. Can't wait to be back to my happy place. Thank you again for your beautiful videos. As always Happy hiking 😊🌲⛰
I was at Boulder pass and hole in the wall about six years ago. That is a great outhouse at Boulder. We hiked in August when temps were in the 80s. We hiked from the south end of waterton lakes in Canada. Out and then back. Thanks for the video. It brings back great memories. Cheers from Alberta.
Glad you enjoyed it and that it brought back memories. I'm looking forward to exploring your country next year. The last couple days were in the upper 80's. I can say now, that I'm glad it wasn't that hot the entire trip. We just had one extreme to another. lol
I like how Joey is just casually flossing his teeth while you're sitting in that 3rd campsite. lol you guys are so real, it's great. Thanks for another amazing video. jealous of your adventures but glad I get to tag along :)
I thought that was funny too when I watched this back. I didn't even think about it at the time. lol It's a part of the nightly routine. :) Thank you for watching Mary.
Hello Catherine, well you did it again, another awesome video. You are to be commended for your perseverance. It looks like this was one of your more challenging outings for you. Please be safe out there. I look forward to more Catherine 'on the trail' videos.🤗
An amazing trip. Very good decision to lay over in the storm. There is too much to lose when you push the envelope and nature is very unforgiving. You had a great partner!
I felt 100% confident in Joey's decision making process. I am so glad we stayed. Although, we might have made it without dying, we would have missed out on those amazing views. It was the right decision. Thanks so much for watching.
I love glacier, I'm blessed to live here in Montana pretty close. I watched your whole video, and an inspired. Thank you for sharing. I can't wait to go this super and fall.
Thank you Jon. It is absolutely stunning. The only place I've come across that rivals the Sierra. It is uniquely different, so it's an odd comparison, but the beauty is unreal.
Catherine Gregory I can totally see what you mean. Looks more like Banff to me than the mountains over here.. but we love our unique Sierras 🤙 I really want to go now. I don't know about bicycling down the road etc so I'll really need to figure out the logistics!
Thank you Cat & Joey for another amazing video. LMAO Joey flossing and scrubbing his teeth night 4. This hairy mountain man with great dental hygiene. Joey C 👍
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures He's smart like that ! Teeth cost way more than stink, stink washes off. I think that is the most amazing scenery I've ever seen ! I can't imagine in person. Safe travels to you
That is what i like about Joey, he is authentic, raw and real, doesn't care of the standard of society! He is just being himself, no filter and that's amazing! You are lucky Cat to hike with him, I am too huge fan of his videos!!!
Hi Austin. It's a Marmot Force 3P (3 person tent). It weighs 4.6 Pounds. We did have a few drips of rain come through, but it was a hard and non stop rain for 24 hours. We stayed dry. Under those circumstances I would say it held up excellent.
Incredibly beautiful and with out the mare of mans hand. Excellent work with the camera!! Edit wrk is great also. BAD MOSQUITO!!! LoL. What temp rates were your bags for that trip?? Looked like it was cold 😥
Thank you Tracy. The camera work is a collaboration between Joey and myself. My bag is rated for 15 degrees. I think Joey's also has a low temp rating. We both have the Thermarest NeoAir XTherm sleeping pads that have a R-Value of 5.7, so we were warm in the tent. It was cold on nights 2 and 3. I was shivering cold after the hike on day 2. Joey boiled water and poured it in my Nalgene. I slept with that in my sleeping bag and it warmed me right up. It stayed warm almost all night.
This looked like a miserable trip! Gotta either give you guys props or scratch my head and ask "WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKIN! LOL...lucky you weren't bear snacks!!
It appears my ending was cut short somehow. For some reason, I had a lot of technical difficulties editing this video, so out of frustration, I'm going to leave it as is. The entire trip is intact. It was just me babbling at the end with an end card and a little music. Basically what I said is as follows: At the end of our trip, Joey rode his bike 15 miles back to our starting trailhead to get the van. It was a rough road and even driving it 15 miles takes approx an hour. He picked me up 3 hours later. Thank you for doing that for us Joey. Also, thank you for the use of your additional, incredible footage. Thank you to Harmony for the hitch! It was a fantastic trip even with all the "weather" and "mosquitoes"! Thank you for watching and I'll see you on the next adventure!
The epicness of this video is off the charts. Can't be measured. I was in awe. Fantastic hike Catherine. A funny thing happened. Wifey and myself sat down in front of TV with TV trays to watch the vid and eat our fried catfish filets. Wifey was pouring her tarter sauce in her plate as video started and you showed that amazing rainbow. She forgot her sauce and poured most of the bottle into her plate. We just sat there laughing.
I usually take a ultralight tarp if there any chance of rain. That way you can keep a fire going and wait out the rain in relative comfort. I have been backpacking for over 50 years.
I'm glad you got to experience life on the trail for a week straight. It brought back a lot of treasured memories for me, as I've long distance hiked through Glacier a couple of times. ❤ ✌ 👣 The struggles are real and one is always in some form of discomfort, but the epic rewards are worth it. -Stay adventurous & positive.
The cinematography is beautiful,...but please give us more seconds to enjoy the beauty. It’s annoying when you vloggers skip so fast from scene to scene.
Another awesome video Catherine, even with the bad weather the mountain scenery was epic!! Don't know if you can get Avon products in America, but please try Avon original Skin so Soft spray. It's a normal skin spray but is excellent at getting rid of mosquitos. Friends used it on an Amazon trip, family have used it in Scotland, where at times mosquitos are a real bummer. We live by the sea here in the UK, and when we're outside till late on summer evenings, we use this, and not one person I know has been troubled by mosquito bites. Anyway! Loving your work, will look out for more vids from you! Thank you for all you do! xx
So beautiful! I love Montana. My mom lives just south of Glacier by about 2 hours so I visit every year, but I’m too afraid I’ll meet a grizzly to go too far from civilization! We were there starting July 8th and had perfect weather for a hike to Hidden Lake. Plenty of goats, big horn sheep AND a grizzly off in the distance below and behind the visitors center. Thanks for sharing the back country for those of us too timid!
Hi Kim. Funny enough, when I went to Glacier last year and did not hike. I saw 6 Grizzlies just hanging out around Many Glacier...running down the road, etc. On this trip...6 days in the backcountry, we didn't see one. lol Go Figure. Thank you for watching.
watching it again. i did this exact hike (same campgrounds) in 1987 (and climbed Boulder Peak). then did it again in 1996. then did an out and back from Bowman to Lake Francis in 2005, with a visiting couple who went on to Granite Park via Goat Haunt. thanks for the memories retired in the Andes. miss Glacier. love exploring new stuff though
Yeah, I know, me too. I watch Joey's posting and he hike alone many times. And the most valuable piece of equipment you have with you, is what is between your ears. You always must be evaluating your situation and adapt. He does some also video too.
I’m working my way backwards after discovering your channel and this one grabbed my attention. You capture the scenery very well & this vid has given me a good idea for next summer’s venture out west to visit a friend in Whitefish. Have to admit though that I fast forwarded through Joey’s flossing scene. Oh by the way, I’m pretty sure I spotted Jeremiah Johnson watching y’all in several of the segments 😉!
Wow, beautiful! Yeah when you go hiking/camping you hope for nice weather but it's the wilderness, have to take what you get. I watched one of his videos & he sat on a rock & talked for like 30 min, kinda boring, but just my opinion, thanks for sharing, love Glacier Nat'l Park
Looks like an amazing trip! You're really getting out there in the backcountry...awesome. Glaciers a good one...wild country at its best. "Keep Hiking!"
Catherine, I didn't realize how late it is , I will try to gjnd it tomorrow. Love your stuff, and you, no, not that way, just I love your presentations. My biggest and my wife worry is stalkers. I watch this pretty Swedish woman trucker, to see what's it looks like where my relatives came ftom. No word for a month. So I worry about you. I live in the woods, and understand nuts. Been shot at, horses poison. You are on your own. Sleep with bear spray . To many weirdos in this world. And you are just naturally beautiful. Please watch out for yourself
I watched the Yellowstone trip with 5 people and just finished this one. In both videos you hung your food. I though bear canisters are required in both Yellowstone and Glacier. Great videos for each trip.
Such an awesome video! It’s so much fun to “join” you and Joey on your adventures. How did the ziplock bags work for you? Backpacking can definitely bring out creativity! Have you ever ate a thimbleberry? If not, I hope you get to come back when they are ripe, they are delicious! My sister and I walked down a trail thick with thimbleberry bushes last year. It was the one time I fell (thankfully the last trail of our week long day hiking trip). I stepped in a dip on the side of the trail that I didn’t see and down I went, face forward. I had my iPhone with a microphone attached on a selfie stick in one hand, bear spray in the other, and my Nikon DSLR around my neck. My first thought was, I hope I didn’t break any of my gear! Lol. Also saw two big piles of grizzly scat on that trail...it was a bit nerve racking with all the tall bushes knowing a bear had been through. Can’t wait to see your next adventure!
Thank you!! Glad you could "join" us. :) The ziplock bags helped for a bit. I don't like putting dry socks into wet shoes, so for a bit of the hike, my feet stayed dry. Unfortunately, they came untucked out of my pant leg and snow gathered all around my ankles and eventually melting into my feet. That was okay though. They stayed warm. We didn't know our plan for the trip before I flew out. We planned it the day before we hiked and even debated the day of our hike as to which trip we would do. Had I known we would be in such wet and winter-like conditions, I would have prepared better by wearing gators and bringing some warmer clothing. I was cursing those thimbleberry bushes! hahaha J/K I thought at least if they were bearing fruit, they wouldn't be such a pain. It was too early for the berries, so I have not been lucky enough to eat any. Sounds like a heck of a fall for you. Luckily, I only fell backwards on my bum. I always fear falling face first! Glad you didn't get hurt or break any gear.
Wow. That’s all I kept saying throughout the video. Just one incredible view after another. Catherine what kind of route finding did you and Joey use. Did you have just a map and compass or did you also bring GPS. I always worry about big storms dumping a foot of snow and not being able to find the trail again.
Thank you! We had a map and compass, but we didn't need it. Joey has done this hike many times and knows it well. The trail over the pass was covered in snow and it was quite steep going up the pass. We hiked well above it, off trail to get over. We had to cross a couple scree fields, as well.
How in the world did you know where you were going? It looked like you were off the trails. I would be afraid I would get lost like lots of people have before.
Now that was awesome! That looked like you guys had one heckuva trip, really enjoyed being there with you. Really enjoyed seeing all the snow, that surprises me considering it’s July! LOL You guys make a great team, you both have crisp and clear voices. I really enjoy your commentary in all of your videos. Thanks for making these spectacular videos!!!
Great job on the video. Loved it . Also i like what you did with your channel you have my subscription would love to have your support as well. Thanks again for sharing . ATB Joe 🙂👏👍
I love the scenery at around 26:00. What an absolutely beautiful place! :) Literally beautiful - WOW. I've subbed for more. I'm a travel vlogger myself, I hope you'll join me on my adventure too!
Wow Glacier! Great video, what an adventure. I loved the beautiful high mountain vistas. Joey and you made the right call in waiting out the storm. I've been in those hypothermia conditions and they are no laughing matter.
+Paul Frank thank you! What we didn’t show on camera is how cold I really got on that second night. I was shivering so bad I was shaking. I got into dry clothes and Joey made me some hot soup. He also boiled water that he put in my nalgene and I slept with that in my sleeping bag. That was an eye opener and a big factor in our decision making to stay put another night.
He Cat, I have many questions for you and was hoping for a Q & A soon. Maybe Joey could potentially add some of his perspective during that. My questions however are for yourself. Q 1. Ignoring the obvious new gear additions since hiking with Joey. Has anything changed. The size or amounts of your toiletries kit. Do you bring more things like bandannas, hats, have you changed products. The reason I ask is your traveling now to different parts of the country. Q 2. Has your lifestyle changed. Exercise habits, food habits. Do you train harder now for upcoming trips. Do you spend more time planning trips. Will you be planning trips to take Joey on. Has there been a big change in social life or none. Q 3. Is your channel changing. In your opinion. Is it getting bigger. More challenging to express your style, your art. Are things expanding for you creatively. Is it hard to jump all over the place and capture the difference from say Montana to the California. Does any of this change your perspective as an artist. Q 4. Has their ever been times when following Joey that fatigue and frustration has prevented or hindered your enjoyment or experience. And if so, is it getting easier. Q 5. Have you experienced a drastic lifestyle change or is it much the same I hope this hasn’t been to much for question. And hope you might be able to answer any of them in a Q&A video. Cheers, I am enjoying watching you experience all these new adventures. You love it, I can tell.
+Casper Furlong great questions!! If I don’t get to them in a Q&A soon, I’ll revisit this comment and answer you here. Might just push me to do another Q&A sooner than later.
That deer had no fear of us! He kept inching towards us. He wanted my salty clothes I was trying to try on the log next to our tent. They'll eat the straps rights of your trekking poles for the salt. I watched him make off with our neighbors neck gator! hahaaaa. It was so beautiful in Glacier. The weather and obstacles made it a true adventure. Thanks for taking an hour of your life to watch this. Much appreciated.
Very beautiful video Catherine! Wow, you are getting in some awesome and challenging trips this season. I'm sure you were a little "mellowed out" after six days in the wild. Again another great video!
Hi Bryan! Thank you! I would have loved to have stayed out even longer. I was definitely finding my groove out there. I'm going to watch your new video tonight!
Have you thought about hat with mosquito netting like they use in Alaska ? No doubt , you have the most adventurous and beautiful scenic videos to watch out there .
I have visited Glacier several times and learned from others that there are fewer bears on the West side of the park. The West side has more trees...the East side is more glacial. Visitors can find great day hikes on both sides. Simply a beautiful video...Thank you.
Thank you Nathan!!! Joey is now well entrenched into backpacking season. He left on an 8 day trip 2 days after this one and will be out a day and then on another 10 day trip. He's been on non-stop back to back trips with maybe a day or two between. Unfortunately, that doesn't give him time to work on the videos. He's accumulating quite a back log. I think he might have a bit of a break after his next trip, so maybe we'll see something new by the end of the month. :)
It's actually smaller than what he's carried in years past. It's an Osprey Exos 58 Liter pack. He's used Gregory packs for years. This is the first season with an Osprey and he loves it. He manages to get a lot in the pack and has used it on multiple 10 day trips already.
I really enjoyed this adventure, though I was scared y all were liable to get snake bit climbing through all them falling trees. I could just feel the tics crawling up my britches legs in the time it would take to get back to the truck. This was a brutal trip it looked like one of those movies where folks have crashed they's airplane and trying to get back to civilization. I subscribed
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for subscribing. Funny you should say that about snakes. I asked Joey if there were snakes in the park. Particularly, I was concerned about rattlers. He said there weren't any. haha...it does seem like it was brutal, but it's the stuff adventures are made of. It was exactly as it was supposed to be. I had a great time. :)
Yes, Glacier National Park is notorious for grizzly bear maulings. 1) In August 1967, multiple bear maulings. Fatal maulings almost simultaneously only one mountain away from each other; and virtually same time. Crazy. 2) Johan and Jenna Otter as they were hiking. 20/20 tv special. 3) Todd Orr out of Ennis, Montana; he was mauled twice in the same day.
