Early October, 5 day trip into the Maroon Bells wilderness. We decided not to do the heavily traveled 4 pass loop, but the route we took was fantastic.
One of my favorite trips I’ve done, the ease of flying into Denver & no permit system was great too. There’s a good chance I’ll be back out here next year.
Beautiful footage, man! Late Sept/early Oct. looks like the best time to go; light traffic, good weather and fantastic saturation. Only downside is nighttime temperatures, which must have been bracing, to say the least. Good stuff. 👍👍
Yeah, it really was a fantastic time to go. I’m actually considering going back this year but checking out some other sections of less trafficked trail. I made some upgrades to my cold weather gear after this trip, but the experience was worth a few cold nights for sure.
I hiked most of that trail 50 years ago on my first ever hiking and backpacking trip when I was 20. It changed the trajectory of my life. I loved your photography so much it brought back a ton of memories. I even took screen shots of some of your pictures to make a memory file for my self. What a great trip y’all had. Thanks so much for sharing it and stimulating my memories of one of the most beautiful places that exist.
Wow. You did an amazing job editing this video. I was there a few years ago and one thing I can say is you have to take a minute or two to catch your breath before starting recording. Haha! That happened to me every time I wanted to take a shot. Stop, catch my breath, do my shot. Haha. Thank you so much for sharing!
Hi! 1. Thank you so much for posting this. We're planning a trip that will overlap parts of this for Sept. '23 and this is inspirational. More importantly though, I showed it to my 86 year old mountainier Dad, and he just loved it. 2. I would love to know what equipment you used to film/record this. Would you be willing to share? Thanks! So beautiful!
I’m really glad you two enjoyed it!! I did all the video with an iPhone 12, I use a cheap Amazon brand aluminum tripod around camp, and a little handheld joby gorilla pod while I’m out hiking. I just read that they’re starting permits for Maroon Bells this year. I can honestly say it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve hiked, I definitely want to come back & do the full Four Pass Loop.
@shredhiker6209 it's a cool area. First went there when I was 18, couple of times in winter. Last time I went was 3 years ago. All my trips have been solo, save for one. Shooting for many more, I'll be 66 next time. You did a great job on the video and I'm surprised you guys did as well as you did with no acclimation.
