In this video I spend 4 days hiking 30 miles into Enchanted Valley; a magical place deep in Olympic National Park. It was Memorial Day weekend so it was busier than normal but thankfully, heavy rains on Saturday shoo'd out everyone but the diehards.

Hiked through there 60 years ago on a 90 mile circuit of 6 days, 5 nights, and the E. V. Chalet was full of army/navy rations. Stayed that night in the shelter on top of Anderson Pass. Great memory.

RU-vid recently showed me one of your recent videos and I loved it so much I subscribed and am watching all your vids from the oldest. I’m struck by how much you remind me of Nelson Sullivan, another favorite of mine here but his videos are from the 80s. You have similar styles and demeanor and even look similar. He was a city vlogger and you’re a forest vlogger. Anyway looking forward to catching up on your work, great job thanks so much!

This was a pretty low mileage trip for 4 days, no? I’m planning to do the 57 mile Enchanted Valley/O’Neill Pass in 5 days and 4 nights. I’m not very experienced but comfortable with 10-15 mile days. Am I underestimating the difficulty or was your group chilling a lot? I’m solo hiking so plan to be on the move quite a lot!

so from where you parked to where you camped it was 15 miles or you did 30 miles total? I live around that area and was thinking about doing a summer hike this year.

Planing my trip for this season. I know everyone has their own pace, but did you do the whole hike in in one day?
@NathanaelBillings
@NathanaelBillings 4 года назад
We did, yeah. It’s a bit of a slog towards the end and gets a bit monotonous but if you give yourself enough time, it’s really doable. It’s pretty flat so that helps a lot as well

2 days is best to enjoy the journey in. No need to rush, it's more distance then climb. I once waited 30 minutes for a bear and her cubs to clear from the trail ahead. Also check to see if the road in is washed out, happens often.

Question for anyone... I am flying in to hike (3 nights) enchanted valley in July. Currently I am planning to rent a car and leave at trailhead but seems like a waste. Anyone have transportation ideas? I will need to store a carry on somewhere also while I am on trail. Is there lockers anywhere for this? Any help is greatly appreciated.
@NathanaelBillings
@NathanaelBillings 4 месяца назад
Renting a car would be the best option unless you want to hitchhike. As far as I know, there are no shuttle options or lockers. The trailhead is pretty far into the mountains.

You video taped something watching you at 20:05 mark as black bear walks by behind it in the screen something is watching you and ducks down because it thinks you spotted it

I was at the Graves Creek campground 5 or 6 years ago, when the camp host came around with a warning as several forest service trucks started pulling up and they all grabbed their shotguns and started moving up the trail in a hurry. Later that afternoon (this was mid day) another couple came through and they were part of several that a cougar was screaming at and keeping people from passing. It was right at the top of the ridge between Graves Creek camp ground, and Pony Bridge. The time the park rangers got there, they tracked it back off the main trail, and it had pulled a deer up a tree. They stapled up warning signs and walked away. At that point the danger had passed. It made for a exciting afternoon.
