Who says you have to succumb to the miseries of cold breakfast, or worse - oatmeal, when you're on the trail? We put those days to rest and discovered a new life of hot breakfast in the backcountry. We recently bought a Jetboil Summit Skillet so Seth could have his dream come true: Chocolate Chip Pancakes ON THE TRAIL. Check out our experience and find out how you, too, can enjoy the luxury of pancakes when backpacking!
PS We were in no way compensated by Jetboil to make this video. But we wish we were! ;)
PPS Jetboil, if you're reading this, plz send us gear.

The best complement that I can give you guys is that I want to go outdoors, find a beautiful spot, and cook me some pancakes! Great job!

Great video. Thank you for showing how long the cook time was as well as how much fuel you used at the end! 👍

I've made pancakes while backpacking a few times, and love doing it. Bisquick Shake N Pour is very convenient. I find the small container perfect for one person, and the big one for two. You said it's very important to measure out the water, I don't. Instead I practice making pancakes without measuring, adding a little bit of water at a time till it gets to the right consistency. I've been cooking them in a steel pot, in lard, no problems with sticking as long as you slosh it around before flipping. Lard has the best calories per weight, like many fats. The whole thing is very worth a practice run at home.

I literally paid $20 AUD (about $15 USD) for a 24cm Tefal pan and used a screwdriver to remove the handle for later quick re-installation on the trail. This thing costs $90 AUD directly from Jetboil, plus $10 shipping, putting it at $100 AUD (approx $77 USD) for a skillet that's both smaller and no better in its cooking abilities than a $20 Tefal from the supermarket. The folding handle is convenient I guess, but the price is horrendous for what it is...

Bummer, it's only $44.95 new from the retailer in the US. Glad you found another way that works for you! Happy cooking!

Subscribed and supported👌 cool idea. My breakfast go to, is oats, with dehydrated banana chips and craisins. But i do like the ease of your pancake recipe🙂.

@@spacetakers6062 it's a pretty simple meal. But i saw that your body doesn't handle oats well, which does make it tricky. Always good to see other peoples lightweight camping meals. Enjoy your travels👍

Caveat: The heat is not distributed evenly on the pot as Jetboil claims. You can see that in this video where the center of the pancake is almost charred. I tried making a grilled cheese with tomatoes as shown in the Jetboil video that advertises the pan. Yep, the center of the bread was almost charred. You definitely need to keep lifting whatever you are cooking to make sure it doesn't burn. YMMV.
