A five day backpacking trip in Bridger Wilderness, which is located in Wyoming's Wind River Range. Catherine Gregory joins me on this trip to Titcomb Basin and back to Elkhart Park. By chance on day three we run into David Knaus, who backpacked with Catherine in 2018.

@@BryanDeLay yeah we are seeing more people up here in the Big Horns now. Years ago when I packed in some of these places you would never see anyone or just a couple people. I still love going to lakes that have no trails to them. But I'm not as young as I use to be. So it's getting harder.

Enjoyed your Winds videos. Fires are not allowed at Island Lake. It's considered above tree line.
@BryanDeLay
@BryanDeLay 4 года назад
Thanks Jed! That's interesting because we just talked with a two rangers and they did not say anything about no fires at Island Lake. And we used an existing fire ring. Also when I was there in 2015, camping on a ridge on the other side of the lake, I could see 15 to 20 campfires around the lake that night.
@jedsmith4988
@jedsmith4988 4 года назад
Yes, have seen the same thing. My info comes from the Pinedale District office. I have permits for a group camp in the area. They were very specific about no campfires at Island. But, they said people have them anyway. It's not clear that it's above treeline and there are no signs posted (rather a good thing). Sometimes they have a backcountry ranger stationed there but budgets are tight.

Hi Bryan. Thanks for sharing. I'll be doing this solo in late July 2021. First solo trek in a while so was hoping you could let me know about trail signage. I typically don't have issues navigating but got "lost" in the Sawtooths last year for a few hours. Hoping to avoid that this time. I will study the route and have a map/compass. Just wanted to know how well the trails are marked at junctions (even smaller junctions). Thanks. Rob
@BryanDeLay
@BryanDeLay 3 года назад
Thanks R Lovell! This is a very used route and the trails are very well marked, so I don't think you'll have any issues.

Love your videos Bryan. Thank you for taking the time to record your trips. I would like to share my opinion of your style of photography with the stop motion action. I don’t like it, it’s too hard to watch. So please no more herky jerky photographs in the future, thank you!

Thank you Joanne! I assume that you are referring to the video at 10:32. This video technique is rather popular and many smart phones have a function to create this effect and it's called Hyperlaspe. Also GoPro's function for this effect is called Time Warp. I've only used this technique a few times. I appreciate you expressing your opinion.

As always a great video, and I'm looking forward to your Canadian video with Steward Howe and Joey. Just wondering, did you ever make the tarp switch to the MLD cuben fiber tarp? If you did, can could you do a comparsion pros and cons about each. Thanks!
@BryanDeLay
@BryanDeLay 4 года назад
Thank you Chris! Working on another Wind River video now then the Canada video, so it will be a couple of weeks. I purchased the cuben fiber tarp (now Dyneema Composite Fabric) last May and I really like it. Of course it's lighter and more expensive, it is also stronger than silnylon and doesn"t absorb water so DCF dries faster. DCF doesn't stretch like silnylon so it stays taut, but the down side to that is the tarp has to be erected more flat to get the edges taut, although I've erected somewhat steeply and the loose edges hasn't really made a difference.
@ChrisfromFL
@ChrisfromFL 4 года назад
@@BryanDeLay : The reason I asked about the tarp is although I prefer hammocking, I would like to do a trip out west and noticed most of the areas don't look like typical hammocking territory as found in the Eastern US. I guess I could figure out a way to use my Dyneema hammock tarp without buying a MLD like yours, but I like the versatility and set ups you've demonstrated with your tarp. Thanks for your reply, I'll be watching for your videos.
@BryanDeLay
@BryanDeLay 4 года назад
Chris, if you are only going to use a tarp for one trip I'd suggest using your hammock tarp if it's big enough. The MLD tarps are rather expensive, especially the DCF version, for one or just a few trips. Or you could get an 8' X 10' silnylon tarp for under $150.
