Jen and I always take some extra time on the 4th of July so we can head out into the wilderness for a few days. This time we head out East to Lake Chelan where we will backpack our way up the Lakeshore Trail and eventually make it to the remote town of Stehekin.
Day one includes us taking the Lady of the Lake up to Prince Creek dropoff and then terminating our trek at Cascade Creek Campground.

I just did the Lakeshore Trail last spring, and I am happy they have since built a dock at Prince Creek. Makes it easier to get off at the dock. I'm also happy I did it in April where it wasn't too hot and no snakes!

Carrying 34 pounds of beer up and down all of those hills is a lot of work.

I'm a private pilot and have often thought of flying into the small airstrip at Stehekin to take this boat ride. Looks great!

How’d you get into private piloting? Do you own your own plane?

Hey again. No problem on the reply. I hope you had a great vacation. Thanks for the info on the WTA. I've actually been referred that direction by another good contact. Washington State has a wonderful trail system in every video I've ever watched. It just seems like they try very hard to try and match the beauty of the natural surroundings with as much as they possibly can. From trail rocks to the super cool sawed log water crossings. I had never seen those before. You guys truly are fortunate to have that area in a close vicinity. When I've come up to Seattle, both times I drove it straight through. It took about 14 hrs. with gas stops. It wasn't real close, or a super fabulous drive. Thanks for getting back.

Washington state is such an amazing place for the outdoor enthusiast. It's going to be many years before we run out of trails here. :)

I have watched a number of your videos. I decided to subscribe. I really think you guys do a great job. I live in Utah and love the outdoors. I have been preparing to start backpacking again after a very long time and some setbacks that I beleive I have worked through. I have only been to Washington State 2 times, but I absolutely love it and have been thinking about making the trip up within the next couple of weeks by myself and hitting some slightly extended campouts before making my way accross Northern Idaho, Montana, and then down through Yellowstone, the Tetons, and back home again. possibly down into a number of other spots that I have been following pretty closely. I hope it takes a long time. It's a bit intimidating, but I really think you guys make it look like it just can't be passed up if the oppurtunity is there. I find your videos very fun and inspiring to watch. You both seem to have a great sense of humor, and the ability to find the beauty in your surrounding no matter the situation you may find yourselves in. Thank you for sharing with us. You and Jen have made a positive difference in the life of a complete stranger to you. Extremely well done, and thanks again. Please keep doing what your doing.

Thank you Jason! We highly recommend you take some time to visit the Cascades. As you have seen, this area is extremely beautiful and not to be missed during the summer months. With that being said, we are going to have a relatively short alpine summit season as we are still waiting for the snow to melt out from our record season. But, there are still so many amazing places you can backpack that are below the snow line. Thanks for watching and we are happy to know that the videos we are putting out there are having a positive reaction with others who love the outdoors. :)

Are there any places where it is easy to access the lake besides the beginning and the end? Hiking with kids, and I would like to take breaks during the day and maybe go for a quick swim.

Did you see any bears in the lake Chelan hike?
@Nerding4Nature

Greetings from North of the border! I assume that since there are another two parts, that you did not encounter a rattlesnake riding a bear, but this seems like a great start to the trip.

Sadly we only saw one rattlesnake and one bear. And not at the same time. :(

Cool video. I see you drive a Subaru. I wonder if you know the reason behind many Subaru drivers making it a common practice to drive 10 MPH under the speed limit.
@OutsideAndStuff
@OutsideAndStuff 7 лет назад
HAH. Most subaru drivers I know are over 10MPH. :)

Thanks for the reply. I'm not exactly sure what part of Washington state Mt. Ranier is in, but I seem to remember being able to see it while visiting Seattle. I say that because I would like to attemt the Wonderland trail. With only limited information on that trek, can you tell me if it is presently passable, or is there still too much snow pack? I know what you mean by snowfall this year. We got our A's kicked this year with snow and spring rain. I still can't get up to some of the higher Uinta mountain areas, but I live at roughly 4500 ft. sea level anyways. If there's any info on that trail system that you could share with me, I would appreciate it. Thanks again for the fun videos and the response. Take care and be safe!

Hi Jason, sorry for the slow reply, I was on vacation. Here's a link to the latest trip reports on the Wonderland Trail Thru hike. www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/wonderland-trail-thru-hike If you scroll to the bottom you can read the latest trip reports. And it looks like there is still snow on the trail. Best of luck! Also, WTA.org is where we go to get all of our trip info in Washington. :)

Go Subaru!...parking...what a rip-off. Nice chick action. Looks like the desserty part of Washington. How do you wear such clothing when it's that warm? Neat place any way. You guys pay way to much to elevation gain statistics. Great video work as usual. Are you "Outside" or "Stuff" ? Who is who?
