Beautiful house! The problem is the age of the house. You see all of those space heaters? I lived in an old farm house and the electrical was porcelain insulators with bare wire running though walls made with lath and plaster. You never know if there will be a fire. My dream would be to duplicate a house like that with modern construction. It would probably cost a fortune but be one of a kind.
Joe. So glad you brought your daughter. I have daughter's, and I always save myself some time to see them. I have a great relationship with them since they were little. My eldest comes over every weekend.😊👍.
Yes, We'll be doing a series of videos in Texas. We have to stay relatively close to Dallas for several weeks to attend a couple of family events. It gives me a chance to see some places in Texas I really want to see - Marfa, Presidio & Terlingua. :)
Yes, this is the second one we've done. I'm going to try to do a couple videos a year with her. Start training her. Eventually, she will take over the channel.
Enjoy your videos! The birds are Guinea Fowl. My brother used to have them. My neighbor used to have them as well. Some said they were great "watch dogs" and they would make a loud sound when alarmed and any one walking up would set them off. They used the eggs and also would cook them, if you could catch them. LOL
Father and daughter enjoying life of the almost forgotten towns together. Hello Audrey so nice to meet you. Always so nice to see your videos Joe as I appreciate that I get to tag along on your adventures. Happy days to you both. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
It seems of all the states and places you have shown us, for the cost of living, health care always seems the highest....enjoyed the posting and the interaction with your daughter
Interesting vidio as they always are. Nice to see your daughter Audrey. She does sound so much like your wife 😊. How good to share these vidios together. ❤.
I have been through Celeste, many years ago. The large abandoned structure in Wolfe City may have been a cotton gin. There are quite a few of these scattered across Texas.
Let me first say. Thank God you got me back home to Texas. LoL now i can watch this a couple more times and get more homesick. Great to see your daughter with you again haven’t seen her in a little while on the channel so hello. Those numbers are really strange indeed. I’m sure there’s a reason I just don’t know it. Those wet Guinea fowl or just Guineas we call em best watch dog ever. Nothing comes round that they don’t really cut a shine. LoL and loud. I love these towns and you know you’re in small town Texas when you see red brick in downtown or the square. Reminds me of the Nanci Griffith song spin on an old red brick floor, about the bar that it’s floor was made of red bricks from the downtown area. LoL course her being a Texas girl would know about that. Sorry she’s gone. Great job on a great video Joe appreciate it and appreciate seeing some blue skies and sunshine. Safe travels my friend. Keep filming and I’ll keep watching
@@usmcmos0317 Thank you for the great comment, I always really enjoy the ones you post. Going to some really out of the way places in Texas over the next few videos, so stay tuned! 👍😀
I was hoping for a Saturday AM video to start my weekend! Lovely murals and cat in Celeste! Hi Audrey! I like hearing your opinions. Yes the diner sign in Wolfe City would be great in your man cave. I love the bricks too and downtown squares. I love the downtown in Honey Grove! Great buildings in opening shot. Love the old gas stations. Lovely homes! Appreciate this video! Have a great weekend! ❤
It’s crazy that this video was recommended to me, but I actually go to school in Celeste(live outside of city limits). The Seniors in art class paint a new mural every year. We just made the new Audi Murphy memorial recently, and I helped make the metal frame in Ag. (I barely did anything… just wanted to say I did.) Kinda weird to hear it get called a forgotten town thought I guess it kinda is in a sense.
Those were Guineafowl. They are known for being noisy and eating ticks, and are often kept on farms and large properties. Some say they are a living alarm system, and will work together to scare off danger. They are also known for being protective, independent, and cautious. Guineafowl are sexually monomorphic and appear to be monogamous. They have distinctive dark feathers with contrasting blue-white spots or stripes.
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip - Joe in Appalachia, they make for a great burglar alarm, They will chatter and carry on when strangers approach. My grannies guineas just roosted in a tree at night, no pen needed. With the introduction of coyote and having bob cats here, its hard to let them free range anymore.
It was great to see your daughter in a video with you again! Wonderful old towns, so fascinating, and lots of cats, awesome! Thank you so much Joe, Nic and Audrey.😊💚
I remember gas, in Galena Park, TX, at less than a quarter per gallon....during 'gas wars' where stations competed for business and gave out double trading stamps. Next time you're in the Houston area, maybe you could visit the small towns of Galena Park and Jacinto City....both fully incorporated and thus, never annexed by the city of Houston. They both have their own mayors, police departments, and other institutions one would associate with an independent city. Both were built back in the day, with affordable housing, for workers in the industries on the Houston Ship Channel. My dad worked 30 years at Sheffield, later Aarmco, Steel Company.
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip They are both fully surrounded by Houston, but never annexed. In fact, if you didn't know, you would be hard pressed see when you enter them, though there are some signs. I remember one business on Federal Rd that had a sign up saying, "Welcome to Galena Park...home of 5280 good people....and two or three nuts."
Celeste's main street looks like it could be a movie set. The Wolf City Grill sign IS definitely man cave worthy -- have you ever talked to anyone about buying things like that on your travels?
Audry, I hope I spelled that right, she is a delight! And Celeste Texas wow, the potential in that town is massive. Someone is taking care of things there because there isn't a speck of trash, some freshly painted brick, and it just looks like it would make a terrific place to envigorate. If I were 40 years younger, I'd want to buy the entire place and turn it around.
Great video as always. Even better with your daughter tagging along. Btw. I totally envy your gas prices. Over here in Scandinavia today's price is $7.44/gallon 🤣
Thanks Joe for your video, and of course adding charm in the way of your beautiful daughter. I hope she goes with you on your future videos. Oh, and how can you not want to scoop up that beautiful little kitty and take it home? I never get tired of your videos, content, and now, your daughter with her interaction with you and those towns. Oh, and one of my Granddaughter's name is Audrey!!.......Russell D.
I’m trying to talk my wife into taking a road trip to buy that hunk of driftwood in front of the antique store in Honey Grove. Would be great for our koi pond. It’s only 2 hours away 😂
Hi Joe and daughter. It was a lot of fun hearing her take on things. She doesn't know that she's hanging with the master. 😂 If you didn't look at that house, you should. The woodwork inside is outstanding. In another place, it wouldn't be sold so low. I'm not positive but I think those birds were guinea. My aunt and uncle had some. They ate their eggs. I never remember having that bird for Sunday dinner. Back in the day, one of their eggs would get a candy bar from the pedder. Fun times.
Those birds you saw in a front yard are "Guinea Fowl" I believe they are native to Africa. When I was a kid my family had a few of them and kept them with the chickens, which were free range during the day. They are wonderful "watch dogs" as they make quite a noise when something is around that they aren't familiar with, like a stray dog or coyotes, etc.
They are Guinea fowl and they make excellent watch “dogs”. Make a lot of noise if anything is out of the ordinary. My grandparents and lots of other relatives down in east Texas kept guineas around just for that purpose. Cool critters.
"You may all go to heck, I will go to (Honey Grove) Texas" -- Davy Crockett 🙂 Speaking of, recommended reading: "Born On A Mountain Top: On The Road With Davy Crockett". Nice having Audrey tagging along this time. Has anyone ever mentioned she has a passing resemblance to Anne Hathaway? (the actress, not Shakespeare's wife)
It ould be really beautiful with some money & decorating skills. Living in Ontario Canada that house is a steal. It would be worth over a million here even in a small town.
Looks like Guinea Fowls?- (we have in Australia) Lovely girl-Audrey. Great cat sightings ! I found those towns great to look at and love the abandoned beauty, also the black/white photo of its glory days. Thanks as usual Joe.
Celeste is about 60 miles from Dallas. That’s kind of a long drive for a daily commute but not bad if you mostly work from home and just need to go to Dallas for an occasional meeting (I work from home but sometimes go to meetings in downtown phoenix 35 miles away). So as metro Dallas- Fort Worth grows and expands (and housing prices in the metro area keep increasing) I’d bet a lot of these small towns will start growing as work from home people move in. My city of 275k was a small farm town 30 years ago before it became a phoenix mega suburb
We once drove from Austin to Pennsylvania, we started early.. On the road by 5am 5hrs later, I was excited as it's still early and we already logged 5hrs. Was excited to check where we were... And we were still in Texas! Wtf, was expecting a different state!
