I appreciate what Bethann Hardison said regarding the models and lack of expression on the runway compared to the 90s. Conversely, when Loic chats with models backstage, they seem so alive and full of personality! The actual runway could really benefit from that same energy, but I get it. Models are usually instructed to have a stoic demeanour so people (especially buyers) focus on the clothes. Selling is also psychological though. So, seeing someone express enjoyment wearing a piece subconsciously associates 'joy' with that piece and others may be more inclined to want it.

Back to basics. A sensible and understated collection that doesn't scream "Gucci." This collection forces us to rethink how we embrace and respond to things like hype, flash, and the desire to have a "wow factor." Does a brand need an overpowering identity for us to love it? Does every collection need to be hedonistic, tongue-in-cheek, ironic, rap/street-influenced, futuristic, apocalyptic, overly-retro, minimalist, maximalist, deconstructionist, artsy-fartsy or have some crazy vision that only the designer understands? Gucci has a new designer. Markets change. Non-stop politics and protests. War in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Job losses. Decreasing privacy. Rising violent crime. Life is increasingly uncertain. With so much anxiety, people don't have the mental energy to style themselves in a way that looks designer-obsessed just to get through the day. Having a closet of basic, well-made pieces might help relieve consumers of that stress. It doesn't mean fashion should be totally devoid of excitement and aspiration. This is NOT the Gucci we fell in love with, but it might be the Gucci we need... for now. The pared down aesthetic also happened in the '90s during the recession. It's cyclical, but slightly different each generation. Maybe one day, when the time is right, the models - and the rest of the world - will smile again.

Finally!! Beautiful tailoring, not the oversized shapeless crap that has been out. The oversized here is still tailored and classic is great because the is Gucci. Very wearable.

I agree with Bethann, Sabato should let the models come alive and smile. The elevated catwalk is assertive, the music seems good (can't hear it, but Mark Ronson=❤), the celebrities cool and sparkling...please let the models show a tiny bit of joy. Oh, the colours, the coats, the dresses, the boots...such a good collection!

Gggggggggggggggggggggggggghggggggggggggggggggg! As in, "Good grief!" I don't know if people say that outside of America, especially to mean that one is overwhelmed. But, there is almost too much to love in this collection. This young man is saving Gucci's life! I have to go contemplate how so much good can come from one man, one team. It's as though they took inspiration from Loïc Prigent and his team!
