Thank you for uploading this time capsule! Montana was such a powerful style zeitgeist in the 80's. Seeing the different artists backstage doing their crafts is incredible.
I love Claude Montane since the early 80s. I couldn’t afford his leather men’s jacket back in the early 80s bc I was still in my late teens and going to school. My first Claude Montana jacket was what he did for Mario Valentino around 83. It had bc all the Montana details and like one of his leather jackets he made for his own line, but it was cotton. I love that jacket and even bought the matching vest jacket when both were on sale at this one store in SF called Walter Fong’s. They mostly carried suits, but carried a few lessor known European brands that other stores in SF didn’t carry. Like Valentino and Kansai Yamamoto for Men. Sad Montana for all he’s don’t for 80s and 90s fashion, nobody knows who he is now. Even Mugler is more know today and I think Montana was the better designer. I also didn’t know until about a few years ago, that he was still alive but no longer designing. In the late 80 or early 90’s, this one low end store more know for cute cards and also sold clothes called Headlines had all these Montana sweaters for like $15. I should’ve bought them all, but I didn’t even buy one bc I wax overwhelmed with how many they had. I think it was ship there by mistake or the Montana company didn’t know what Headlines was and shipped on credit, these were the iconic big sweater that were selling for $500. I was shocked and was wondering why are they only $15.99. Maybe why his company failed and they had bad management.
