Its nice to see Don Felder in his own spotlight. Full circle, and now hes an enigma that's coming front and center. He had to rebuild his image. And now the public is finding out how integral he was to the Eagles success. Glen Frey needed his guitar to go further towards the harder edge rock sound he brought. Without Felder there never would have been Hotel California. Listen to all the guitar solos in Eagles rock songs... Felder! One guitar solo I particularly like that needs to be mentioned is the solo in "Try and Love Again" . What a masterpiece. Felder again!! Enjoy the limelight Don, you earned it!
Don Felder was a very under rated member of the Eagles. Truth be told and we see and hear it from him now. He was and remains a musical genus. When he speaks of the music, bar, chords, sound he is explaining as simple as he can to answer for the audience, however, I believe being the musician he is he could talk over your head which he tries not to.
I've been on a Don Felder binge. There's no one who could possibly be as kind, generous with his comments about other musicians, including his band mates, and still be so genuinely humble and sincere. Thank you Mr Felder for all you've done!
Interesting, I started an Eagle binge recently. Don was made to be some guy he wasn't. After a few hours of interviews, the documentary, the Stern show, I learned that Fender was and is such a gracious dude and so under appreciated by Henley. Man, greedy Don the premodonna and Glenn the dictator did this man so wrong. I'll be buying his book and music, so screw Henley and the resting Frey guy. This guy was very much an Eagle if not more. Props to this man.
For years I have heard lots of critical comments that came from Henley and Frey. Recently I've watched a few videos with Don Felder talking about his background, playing and writing philosophy and the whole history of the Eagles, I recognized when I first hear him years ago he was a fantastic guitarist, but he seems to be a lot more intellectually grounded and decent than he has been made out to be. For a musician interested in his contribution this was a great interview.
Felder is an amazing guitarist. One thing that always struck me was how much he genuinely enjoys the music. That joy comes out in his playing. what a treasure
My brother has prostate cancer and we love to play. It is like therapy for us. We recorded the Hotel California solo, my brother on bass and me on lead. Posted it on Facebook. That evening Don and his girl friend saw the video! They invited us to a show as Dons guests. We cannot wait to meet Don in person and watch him play. Don took the time to reach out to my brother and I. That I will never forget.
Wow! Here I am a year later listening to Visions & Too Many Hands on loop, wondering why Felder never performs these songs in his shows. Well, I got my answer at 46:56. :))))
Lol! Henley sounds so lame and WTF is with his double standard? "That's not how it sounds on the demo?" WTF? But then for the reunion, "Hey Don! We need you to re-work the intro for Hotel." Sure enough, Felder's revision sounds better than the original. That's skill.
Don Felder and Joe Walsh are two of the greatest guitarists in the business... but it took even these guys 3 days to record the HC solo "bar by bar." So now I finally understand why it has been taking months to me to get along with it - and still doesn't sound right...
tom petty was his student in gainesville and i believe he knew duane allman too lol why did i mention it , sorry don stole ur platform , not intentional . wow steve stills too! But i hope joes on the record , his greatest collaborator
Felder used to hang out at the Allman Brothers' house in daytona beach. Duane gave him slide lessons. Can you imagine? Giving lessons to a legend (petty) and receiving them from a guitar god (Duane).
Leadon was the driving musical force behind the Eagles in the beginning. Then Felder and Walsh became the driving musical forces in when they transitioned to a heavier rock sound. Although i play a completely different type of music now, the eagles inspired me to pick up the guitar and learn in the beginning. I was stoked when i heard of their reunion in 94. But i began losing respect for them when i saw how much the tickets cost (over $100). Too much for a poor 19 year old kid at the time. After watching the history of the eagles, i lost the modicum of respect i had for Henley and Frey. Like Hetfield and Ulrich, both came across as pretentious, insufferable, and greedy. Frey is the biggest coat-tail rider from that era. How many Eagles songs did he collaborate on with writers outside the band again? Henley seems so Pedantic and OCD that it he could easily suck all of the fun out of making music. And the guitar tone i heard from one of their most recent concerts was horrible. So weak. It sounded much better in the late 70s. How is that possible with today's technology? I guess the hearing goes to crap after that many live performances, but damn that tone i heard was watered down. The rest of the guys (Walsh, Tim, Randy, Bernie, and Felder) seem really cool. With that said, I am glad i never paid to go see them. I appreciate and respect their skills and talents as individual musicians and song writera. Henley's vocals and lyrics are outstanding. But the post reunion eagles are about shaking that $ maker and as a whole, they are less than the sum of the parts. And i cant support what they became...a mega corporate sell out.
Well said man. At first, I thought Felder was the cocky jealous guitar player but after just listening to interviews and watching the documentary, I really dislike Henley and Frey and got to really understand Felder's side of including Randy's. Felder is the man.
Since Don Felder was released from the Eagles...the Eagles haven't been the same. It's a shame that money had to rear its ugly head in such a historic amazing band.
