JRHeathrow l85a2 is reliable but still pretty mediocre and prob the worst service rifle compared to other big nato forces. But that said it certainly looks good
I was a royal engineer at the time the British army went from the LSR to the SA80 MK1 the replica looks exactly the same with all the plastic the only thing missing is the gas rail
@@maxharter5716 6:15 he talks about the rear sling swivel being used for left or right handed shooter 6:30 he does call the safety ambidextrous 12:17 he also talks about the front sling swivel being switched to either side for left or right handed shooter Regardless, the L85 can only be used as a right handed shooter, it is as far from ambidextrous as you can get for a rifle.
@@teggy689 Mate, I know the L85 isn't ambidextrous. I was just pointing out the Jet only actually said that anything was ambidextrous was when he was talking about the safety.
for a pre 2010 load out your looking for desert DPM, you could even mix in some temperate DPM which wasn't uncommon. both are really easy to get hold of as surplus here in the UK, desert DPM tends to be in better condition but really not much difference
I agree lol 3yr cadet 3star done a crap load of stuff with the real version of this lots of fun and the live fire one if you have shot one will notice well I did not much kick up bonus of a bulpup dezign
For a 2009 so about herrick 8,9 and 10 impression. Mike's miltaria has a good selection of brit kit state side. If you're willing to order from Britain then Kit monster, or surplus and outdoors are two good sites. But basic kit list top down is. . Mk6 helmet - DDPM cover - possible scrim net attached with NBC boot rubber band or sniper tape. . DDPM ubac shirt or DDPM c96 shirt . OSPREY MK2 DDPM aviod MK3 . Either PLCE webbing set in DPM, DPM or more common DDPM ops vest, or attached by Molle a issued DDPM water bottle/utility pouch, medic pouch and possibly issued ammo pouches or something like a tan condor close top pouch. . NI patrol pack . C96 DDPM trousers . Tan canvas jungle style boots. Any questions please ask. I'm a bit of a brit kit lover and my dad was out there at the time anyway.
Also if you do run a side arm a sig p226 only. Glock hadn't come in let and BHP was retired to pilots and support troops by then. And carry it in a soft shell drop leg.
@@harryb8945 osprey is the name of the plate carrier (body armour) that was issued to the british army. During the time jet wants his load out to be. Take a look at the link below www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Desert-Osprey-Mk3-Body-Armour-Flak-Vest-Cover-Complete-New-Size-190-120-/183605914621
For a British Army/Royal Marine Load-out circa 09-12 Uniforms: You need to have for a British loadout is either Desert or Woodland DPM, use standard Trousers if you want to run a plate carrier, run a UBACS shirt, if you want to run a Battle belt, use a S95 shirt, if you want to be the Royal Marines you will have to run the respective shirts or tops with the royal marine commando name of either side Helmet: For a helmet use a Osprey helmet with either Desert DPM or Woodland DPM cover , you can also use a Desert or Woodland Scrim, you can also fit cat eyes at the back of the helmer Load carrying system: for a body armour use Osprey MKIII body Armour in Desert DPM and you can run Desert DPM pouches with them, you want to run a battle belt use the Highlander HMTC, DO. NOT USE A CHEST RIG OR ASSAULT VESTS, ONLY the sas used these between 1991-2012. Rifle: L85A2 with Daniel Defence Rail SULSAT 4x mag sight (these are not ACOGS), You could use a Acog but the British army only started using them in 2011.. Any foregrip Do not use and PEQ 15’s and use and earlier PEQ box, Pistol: Sig 225 Could use a Glock 17 but this would be 4 years too early
Lucas Samus lol. I’m not moaning. I just brought it up. Why are you being so defensive? I’m not hating him for making the classic mistake that a lot of recruits I’ve seen in the actual army do...
For the sidearm you have to use the P226 and it's not backwards it's just a more advanced design to the American gun design (braces self for the angry comments)
The training we receive as a part of the army cadet force is on a version of the sa80 called the L98A2 cadet go rifle which has the fire selection switch removed and it’s a very nice rifle to fire. P.S. the rear sight is called a dual leaf sight aperture not a peep hole
For your British kit Jet, you’ll need (this isn’t everything/exact): -Desert Disruptive Pattern Material (DPM) -Osprey Body Armor in Desert DPM -Mk6, 6A, and 7 Ballistic Helmet with DPM Cover Hope this helps you with your future loadout
Hey Jet as you’ve said about doing a loadout, Since you want to try and look like a soldier from the 2009 era I suggest you get DPM or DDPM (Desert) which they used in Afghanistan, I suggest you used DDPM as well as a MK3 Osprey body armour however I can only find website that sell them in the UK i also suggest that you use a MK6 Helmet as well as Revision Bullet any goggles in black as the soldiers did. For your L85 i suggest you get a Daniel Defense L85 Rail, an ACOG with a Riser Mount as well as an LLM01
For 2009 you’re looking for osprey webbing and an osprey 3 vest, you could possibly stretch to an osprey 4. Camo would be mainly dpm or dpm desert, mtp started coming in around 2009/2010. Helmet you want a mark 6 or mark 7. As for the rifle you can get away with the base gun with a susat or you can add the Daniel defence rail with a vertical grip, for boots I’d say go for Lowa’s. Radio you want a bowman with a push to talk and that should do it
Jet, I'm sure this will get lost in the comments, but the small square black button above the fire selector switch is the bolt release catch for when the charging handle is at the rear.
I had the AFV version of this, and having used the various different versions of the real thing on a semi-regular basis for work, the AFV version of this aeg weighs more than the real full length version. Otherwise, loved it, I found the blowback a really nice feature.
@@MrPolicekarim I could never work out how this was so, maybe the repro susat was heavier than the real one or something, but it was definitely a heavier package
As someone who has history and experience handling the L85, I can defend G&G in saying that the polymer used in the L85A1 and A2 was pretty shitty in the real-steel version, too. That's why they swapped to the Daniel Defense aluminium(a-loo-min-ee-um, thank you.) railed handguard for service rifles, which is the one you were talking about on Evike, or at least a replica of it. Hell, the newest version of the L85, the A3, swaps out the DD rails for a HK416-style M-LOK guard and swaps the black and green out for a magpul dark earth, and even has a picatinny top rail as standard.. So at the very least we're beginning to learn how to be tacticool, a few years too late..
The rear sling mount does not move to allow assistance for left handed shooters it is to allow ease of access to your side arm in cqb situations. That green thing behind the bolt is a dust cover and instead of pushing the bolt forward manually there is a bolt release catch ( black square) just to the left of the fire selector switch. For 2009 uniform would should go for dpm (desert) this would make a nice addition but don't know if u could get it but a mark 6/7 helmet with desert cover, also webbing with a yoke in that pattern would make the look. Last thing I would recommend is a L85 sling. And a susat sight system, nice video and keep them up
I get what you’re saying about having to use tools to get to the battery compartment but I’m serving in the British army and that’s actually realistic to get into that part of the real rifle
I am a British army cadet and we do use these and the rifle is incredibly similar for example soft stock butt and hard cheek pad and the safety along with the holding opening catch
This thing is probably more efficient than the real thing. stoppage central is an understatement. Also the little square on the left is to release the catch if you lock it back, providing it works. If you want to go for a British used rifle got for the c8 diemaco used by the SAS. A SUSAT sight is a standard on the A2.
@desertfox you can on the real SA80 family of rifles, you can lock and unlock the bolt there is another square looking button that you lift up and down, to release the bolt home if I remember right should be the same position on the other side of that lever you lifted. Hope that helps if the A/S guns do the same.
Kit : mk5 helmet , osprey vest , both in the camo ddpm, Also some british army assault boots and ddpm overshirt and trousers(or pants) , get a scrim net for the helmet if you want it to be genuine.
Here is a cool trick for reloading on la85, tip it that the mag faces left and remove it and put a new one in. I was trained in the British Army so I very familiar with this weapon
Woot! Bullpup life! I do not like having to use an Allen Key to get to my Tavors battery compartment but at least they include the tool in its own space in the gun!
hi there jet, I’m currently doing my weapons handling course on the L98a2 cadet gp rifle (exactly the same as the l85 only without the option of full auto) with the air cadets (brits dont bully me for being a cadet lol) and I noticed a couple of things that you got wrong/would be helpful for you to know. The discharging handle stays attached to the bolt slide at all times except when stripping, the “discharge cover” you mentioned is actually the dust cover which stays closed when you dont intend to fire and will go back with the bolt on the real gun, not sure about the airsoft version though. The thing you used to hold the bolt slide back is called the holding open device (imaginative I know haha) and the correct way to “ease springs” (send the bolt flying forward if you dont know) is to push down the square with rounded edges thing on the opposite side of the rifle, making sure your hands are out of the way of the bolt and it will fly back forward. That’s about it, none the less a very good video as always Jet enjoy the L85 Shane (obviously an actual british army vet is a better source than me but thats just what I spotted with my somewhat basic knowledge of the L85 family, any british vets who spot anything wrong with what I just said, please do correct me, I have my test in a few weeks and want to pass)
Thanks for the video Jet, sorry I'm late btw. A tip from a bullpup owner; don't pull any mag that isn't straight up and down. BB's can sometimes get lost in the reciever and damage the trigger mechanism. I've thought about blocking off the mag well from the rest of the gun but lazy airsofter that I am, just bought another gun instead. 😎
For a British kit from 2010, you'll have a better time looking for MTP (MULTI TERRAIN PATTERN) camouflaged kit. Youll need a MK.6 or MK.7 helmet (MK.7 are easier to get MTP cover for) A MK.4 osprey plate carry (they have hit the surplus market and are easy to acquire) Goggles are the Revision bullet ants And gloves are the Oakley pilots If you want to go full brit you should get a Yoke webbing kit which can run you upto $100 minus shipping. And I recommend you get a picatinny rail upgrade because no one liked the polymer grip.
your going to need a mk6 helmet, mk4 osprey and MTP BDU, brown or black boots, for the rail you will need the DD rail and the adapter for the G&G, you may want to run a battlebelt for things like your pistol and mags if you dont like them sitting high on your chest.
I’m a cadet and use this rifle all the time it does look very realistic, it’s a not a carry handle it’s a rear site and on the opposite side to the cocking handle is the bolt release catch, also it should not be fired from the left shoulder only the right and the bolt and cocking handle gets in the way. Keep up the amazing video
Nice first impressions. G&G make some quality pieces of kit. Really don't like the look or design of that rifle though. I think generally bullpups look worse than carbines unless their styled really well.
Can't stand all the Cadets in the comment section. Wait until your in the field army before you start acting like you know everything about the SA80. Nothing more irritating to a British Army Soldier than the Army Cadets acting on our behalf...
Nice gun and review Jet. You should do a straight outta the box of the silverback srs 26" bullpup sniper rifle. It has great reviews and since you're a sniper, I think you would appreciate that rifle very much 😁
I believe around 2010 they actually had the second version of that. Because they are now on the 3rd generation of that rifle and it is much better that that 1 gen one
The lever is bolt release catch and the rifle is built mainly for right handers however in real steel the l95a3(sa80 a3) is built for both. Unfortunately g&g haven't added the charging handle
"I'm trying to be careful, because I don't want to break this plastic hand guard" 0.5 seconds later (Gun violently falls after Jet rips off the hand guard) 4:16
Love the look and feel of the L85, but it's a shame it's not entirely Leftie friendly. Most of the features are ambi, but if you are a leftie you will unfortunately be resting your cheek on half a cheek rest and you will be eating warm brass. I highly recommend you get the SUSAT optic that's supposed to come with the rifle, you don't need any mods to mount it as it will slide onto that rail no problem.
It's a good rifel, if u wanna know more it's also commonly known as the sa80, and fires a 5.56 full metal jacket or ball projectile round, and is accurate up to 600m and normal has a susat sight (sight unit small arms trylex), obviously used by the British army and is manufactured by HK a German manufacturer, ik because I fire it alot and in my opinion the best rifel, but I'm obviously byest, if your looking for gear, just look up British army supplies and it comes up with all u need, plate carriers, webbing, daysack, smock jackets, ubacs, combat trousers in dpm from 2009,now is mtp, all u need I'm pretty sure u can get helmets to, hit me up if you want to know more jet, like the specific helmet and plate carrier they use atm
I like when you edit in the specific clip the refers to what youre talking about. Like when you mention the ambi sling you cut to a small clip showing it. I know it's a simple thing but i just want to let you that its appreciated. As always great unboxing and thumbs up
Im running a DPM loadout which includes: -KombatUK dpm bdu shirt and trousers -osprey mk3 DPM plate carrier with mk4 plate cover inserts -webtex dpm hydration pack which clips onto the plate carrier with pre-existing clips -dpm plce bayonet frog -Webtex dpm drop leg pistol holster The rest is just cheapy aftermarket stuff. All purchases from ebay
@Lucas Samus i do have some standard issue dpm trousers and a smok which i bought in an army surplus shop maybe 2 years back but im sweaty af so i went for the sports material for the shirt and the kombatuk trousers have the built in kneepads If its really cold ill bring them out but most of the time I'll wear the others
British military surplus will have most of your bdu. You might even find a mark 7 helmet there. EBay UK for the rest. Since you have a slim build you should be able to find a grade one or higher osprey plate carrier
Alex Decker true, Iam just saying Glick variants are the current British handgun choice by both Police and Military. Ik we have had others and some prefer others, but I was just saying.
I have just finished off a full 1980s British army set up modified for airsoft but my father who was in from 76-94 has said its as accurate as it can be
Hi Jet, I know its a year on but something that bugged me in this is that on the left side of the gun there is a square thing just below the cheek rest that also functions as a bolt release catch on the actual thing, I'm in a British cadet force and we use this for blanks so I have to use it a lot. Keep up the good vids!
Jet There is a little square button that when the working parts are to the rear will allow them to move forwards instead if cocking the rifle each time the bolt is to the rear.
Rear sight is not a carry handle. You'd get a bollocking for it. I'd pick up a SUSAT or replica to replace the irons. There's plenty of british kit on sites like Military 1st, or if you ever happen to be in the UK there's tons of surplus stores that are full of interesting bits of kit
Basic load out will be Desert DPM combats either the shirt or the under body armour shirt. Mk6A or mk 7 helmet the mk7 is a lot better. Osprey body armour Lowa desert boots Assault vest (or pouches on the osprey) Dpm leather gloves Sight for the rifle will be a susat or agoc . Northern ireland patrol day sack Camel back hydration unit
With regards to getting ‘09 British military gear, there are loads of surplus stores here in the UK for that kind of uniform and I’m sure they ship overseas or overseas shipping could be organised.
vancouver tactical produces and sells alot of current british gear and has plenty of the older stuff. You can find everything you need there aside from the helmet.
The la85a2 is designed as a right hand firing weapon only else you end up removing teeth with the cocking handle. As a veteran I've used this for many yrs with no problems and I've also got a gbb version as well
