+PADRESCHARGERS4EVER Loll the thing about living in San Diego is it has become almost numb to me. I was there for the padres loss to the rockies when they missed the call at home plate, when we blew both games to the Jets, I could go on and on. It becomes expected
+Brandon Smith Yup. Padres huge disappointment, Chargers trying to leave, SDSU football is 1-3, SDSU basketball under investigation. Another wonderful year for San Diego sports lol
+PADRESCHARGERS4EVER man I am so depressed about SDSU basketball team right now. They are our only hope and the NCAA is trying to take that away from us
+Brandon Smith It will probably end up as nothing. Lots of schools get investigated and it was reported that SDSU is probably innocent and that the investigation should not have been made public
Even as a Die Hard Pitt fan, i look back on this game and wonder -- "How the hell did this happen?". I watched Pat White, Steve Slaton, and others, literally merk my Pitt Panthers the previous two years. Once the second half hit, and WVU's offense got their wheels rolling, it was game over in 2005 and 2006. Outside of an amazing Darrell Revis punt return, WVU simply outclassed Pitt on both sides of the ball. Then in 2007, with WVU being overwhelming favorites (28 pts), and ranked 2nd in country, with Pitt having their backup QB; wer see one of the greatest upsets in CFB history. Sure, it took misplays by WVU (2 missed FG's), plus an injury to White. However, Pitt's defense was absolutely relentless that game. I cannot stress how crazy they carried Pitt this game by constantly slowing down WVU's offense. The replays show how they were 1 step ahead of WVU's offense on crucial plays (even on the missed option pitches). Pitt luckily had a world class RB in LeSean McCoy on offense, and could ride him to victory behind a gutsy performance by Pat Bostick. Even with questionable referee intervention at the end; Pitt managed to deny WVU a trip to a national championship game that WVU --- in my honest opinion -- could have, and should have; won. Crazy game.
Here after hearing Pat McAfee recall his two missed fgs that ultimately cost WV this game, and a shot at a Natty! "The worst day of my life, I thought about disappearing forever!" -Pat McAfee Well, I'm glad you reconsidered big daug!
@@zacharyvalloric9076 I was pulling for Pittsburgh to win that game and had no clue that they were 28-point underdogs until years later, and I agree with your speculation. McAfee must have taken a dive.
And just like that, the most improbable national championship game went up in smoke. 8 years later I still wonder how the hell Mizzou and WV managed to lose those last weeks. They were basically guaranteed a BCS Championship appearance and they blew it.
That was undoubtedly the nature of that conference. There was a lot of equivalence and parity in Big East conference play. West Virginia, no matter how excellent the teams they fielded, consistently found themselves going 5-2 in conference play, 2006-onward. It was kind of an oddity or interesting lore.
Dennis Bowen Michigan App State wasn't a choke. It was an upset. Michigan ended up with 4 losses. In this game WVU just had to beat a 4-7 Pitt team at home and they would go to the NC. They had this high flying offense and they could only muster 7 points plus the intentional safety for the other 2 points. This was an actual choke
As Virginia Tech fan, both these teams are our rivals, so I don't really have a horse in this race, I mean I might root for Pitt I guess since it helps the ACC now since they're a member, I don't know... But I'm really dissapointed these two don't play annually anymore, this used to be one of the most physical, exciting, and intense rivalries out there, gone.... I hope they start playing soon again, it'd be great to renew that rivalry!!!
Re-watching this game to pump me up for the Pitt /Clemson game....Shinethelight, Pitt/WVU were( in my mind , still) huge rivals once the WVU joined Big East in 1991
Greatest moment o in my memory of being a Pitt fan. I distinctly remember this game, the refs making so many terrible calls in favor of WVU and they still lost.
I'm posting this as an LSU fan after we just beat #6 Florida on the road with our 3rd string. Gave me flashbacks to this game, because obviously I as an LSU fan had a vested interest in this game. Love the reel and the song choice!
This was one of the funnest nights i ever had while at pitt. The upset prevented wvu from going to the national championship. Oakland was complete mayhem
I'm a Pitt fan, and this was the greatest night of my life.....but I never realized just how painful this loss had to have been for WVU until recently. Damn, I honestly don't like thinking about it from the other side.
I feel like West Virginia choked this game away A LOT MORE than Pitt actually won it.Watch the video. Look at all the mistakes WV made that could have been easily avoided including: 2 missed chip shots, careless turnovers, horrendous play calling, sitting the starting QB, mindless errors and miscues, and the overthrow at 2:19 and at the end on 4th and 17 that both could have been easy TD's. Very sloppy play from West Virginia. Pitt didn't need to bring their A game to beat West Virginia because its pretty clear West Virginia brought their F game and played horrible start to finish.Pitt really didn't play spectacular its just that for whatever reason WV was purely abysmal that night. I've heard their coach even lost the game on purpose because he recently accepted a job at Michigan and didn't care for West Virginia anymore. Pitt did NOT win this game; West Virginia choked it away.
I was at this game staring in disbelief. It proved that WVU will never win a title. This is one of 118 reasons (# of seasons) and counting that winning a title is just not going to happen. I have never seen a title, my father has never seen a title, and my grandfather has never seen a title. What makes anybody believe that a title will come to Morgantown? Although every year is heartbreaking, I will always be a WVU fan. Nothing will ever change that.
It's a major, major rivalry, dude. Probably the one with the most pandemonium in the Big East, and the games were usually razor-sharp close, no matter how good the other team was (with obvious limitations, though). On the contrary, however, the Miami-Virginia Tech game was almost always a blowout to either team, even though their efforts would decide, sometimes, who won the Big East. You could almost throw out *all* statistics in a rivalry like this.
I think Rich Rod gets most of the credit for this loss. He had visions of the Big M dancing in his head. We all know how that turned out for him. Plus it was a rivalry game and anything goes in a rivalry game. Give Pitt credit, they played their hearts out in this game.
@@Tutone66 There was no guarantee RichRod goes to Michigan after this game. If he had won, then went to the defacto BS national title game, he'd probably stay at WVU for a long time or get a better job like LSU.
It's unfortunate because it allowed the SEC to continue its run of national championships. It would've been a non-SEC championship game, and Pitt was like, "nah, we'd rather feel good about ourselves for a couple days before we go back to sucking even if it's at the cost of hurting college football." And no, I am not a West Virginia fan by any stretch. I just appreciate the sport of college football and will point out the mistakes made by certain programs when they have hurt the sport throughout its history. But don't worry, Pitt fans. This is just a small glitch compared to what some other programs have done.....
As a member of the team that year, this is the worst memory I have. I haven't ever watched a highlight of it until just now. This one did a good job showing just how awful it was.
i love seeing pat white go down nhard just like he did against the PITTSBURGH STEELERS. When he was at Miami for a few months Joey porter welcomed Him to the nfl. Loved it.
lol. I'm not a Pitt fan, but at least they have titles. It's pretty sad that one of the best teams in West Virginia football history lost to a 5-7 Pitt team.
Wow....that was really '07..??..😂......seems like that was just yesterday 😎😎.....I definitely recall this game ....it appeared up to this point that West Virginia was primed for the National Championship Game ...but I guess ...on any given Sunday. ..in this case, however, Saturday....
"Devine has more talent in his left cheek than shady does in his whole body" - Mountainneerman. Backyard Brawl '07 - McCoy 38 rush 148 yds. - Devine 7 rush 11yds. The argument of their talent could go on all day between a pitt and wvu fan cause no one would ever win. The fact of the matter is McCoy is a much better prospect to the NFL than Devine is. Devine is too small for the NFL he's need to gain some weight and maybe become a jones-drew type back.
My basis is ND barely lost to Pitt, who beat you, and we barely lost @ UNC, who you barely beat at a neutral site. Syracuse happened, but it wasn't a norm. By the way, try not to be so mean. I appreciate the Backyard Brawl. Just because Pitt or WVU isn't my team doesnt mean I cant watch a video.
This game was absolutely hell to watch as a mountaineer fan. I blame Rich Fraud on this one. He had already made his decision to go to MIchigan. That A-hole's play calling was very 'fishy' that game. To all those haters out there, we did have the best team that year. Look at what the Mountaineers did Oklahoma. OSU or LSU would've gotten stomped on.
I don't think anyone walked into that stadium thinking that West Virginia was gonna lose. They would have gone to the national championship game if not for that upset.
don't forget get darrel revis.. and steve slaton..andy lee.. gerald hayes. shantee spencer.. jeff otah...mike glynn...and thats just a few in the nfl...
At first I disagreed, but after more research about RichRod's gambling habits, his crooked manager, his axe to grind with the administration, all in combination with his desire to leave for Michigan, I'm now pretty sure that RichRod threw the Backyard Brawl. He called a bunch of vanilla plays that you call once you have a monster lead, and after that first touchdown, West Virginia never scored again. Pitt gave the last two points to them. It didn't look like they were trying to win.
I love the Pitt WVU rivalry. Wishing WVU the best of luck in this year's brawl, although Pitt is pretty terrible this year so you guys will probably kill us. Watch out in basketball though. ;)
I get so tired of hearing that "Fuck Rich Rod", "Rod threw the game" and all that garb,... We make those two chip shot field goals and we'd have all been makin hotel reservations in New Orleans five mins after the game, lol. And this isn't even the "saddest day of our life"; that would either be the 1988 Fiesta Bowl vs Notre Dame and 1994 Sugar Bowl vs Florida when we were playing for the national title. But THIS is every West Virginian's silver bullet to the head and heart cuz we know this team was our best squad ever. We lose this game, lose our coach, lose all of his recruits, morale was low, and then we CRUSHED a great Oklahoma team in the Fiesta Bowl. Bittersweet win cuz we all know we shoulda been in the big game, but oh well.Owen Schmitt made one of the greatest post game interviews ever. It's all good. We're in a mediocrity slump now, but we'll be back to top 10 football!
+Chad Chadwick Shit man, I knew ppl who already had reservations for New Orleans and the national championship game. And when I said I knew ppl, I mean MANY ppl. You forgot one thing about this game, it was probably the worst and most biased officiated college football game I ever saw. The refs were trying everything in their power to make sure WVU won, I mean they were making up shit and it was obvious.
Rich threw the game for more money? From the looks of the video, it was mostly missed field goals, fumbles, and poor fundamentals that cost WVU, not Coach Rod. It's a shame, but I get the impression that most people who claim the loss to be Coach Rod's fault are people who didn't actually watch the game.
