Backyard Farming: 2 Year Market Garden Update of Nature's Always Right Farms

Many of you remember my first video with Steven Cornett of Nature's Always Right. His farm, located in his 1/4 acre backyard, is a well-thought out and beautifully run market garden here in San Diego, CA.
The first time I went to his place was the first time I'd seen someone farming in backyards, or really urban farming in general. Steven's techniques were pretty advanced back then, but now he's evolved as a person and a farmer and his garden game is on another level.

@Billy Bob The first amendment is before the second and the Trump administration is currently looking to criminalize journalism by indicting Assange as well as crushing mostly peaceful protesting. 4th amendment, we are still being spied on by the government. 5th, self incrimination by bulk data collection. 6th, speedy trial, Assange is being charged with espionage act. 7th, trial by jury Assange doesn't get one. 10th, Trump has been on the wrong side of states rights initially pushing to reopen during the pandemic. That's just the first 10, Trump is also in violation of the emoluments clause for not divesting.

So now I’m really catching up on what he’s doing and subscribed to his channel. So glad you shared this!

Somebody PLEASE explain: I’m in Florida and passion fruit literally grows in the wild out in blazing sun in basically burning hot SAND. Every time I have tried to dig one up (roots intact) and plant it in my comparably fertile yard, they completely die. Every time. I just don’t get it AT ALL. Any guesses?? 💜
@captainreadingabook
@captainreadingabook 3 года назад
@@LucyJazzy85 maybe it needs really sandy/not so great dirt. I know that's how rhubarb grows where I live. It thrives it terrible dirt! Haha
@1000jamesk
@1000jamesk 2 года назад
@@LucyJazzy85 Late to the conversation, but it seems like the plants were adapted to growing in sandy and free-draining soil, while your yard's soil might have been too heavy or compacted for them, so the roots couldn't get enough oxygen and rotted away. You would probably get much better results if you planted passion fruit seeds in your yard, since they would adapt to that type of soil as they grew.

Steven, I have been a huge fan since your first video. Your explanations are high caliber. You are a natural born teacher. I have learned such a lot from you , as you are one of the very best problem solvers out there. My favourite video was the well considered D E S I G N of your chicken coup. To see the passion fruit shading and mitigating heat and cold, and multiplying your production yield is the icing on the cake. I am sure Bill Mollison would have loved it. Here in Sydney I visited a permaculture (rental). An Avocardo tree was growing out of the chicken run which was on the boundary of three inner city houses. The tree was laden with hass avocados at 4 years (not supposed to start fruiting for 6 or 7 years) , thanks to the chicken poop. The avocardo was shading the chicken house roof. I also really liked the videos you made explaining what you wanted and how you did it....soil prep and irrigation as you started your farming life. Well done with repurposing beer waste streams and your new green house and all those experiments. Congratulations on all your achievements Steven. Regards Sez

You can easily start in grow bags like he showed. There are various types that hang on walls or fences and off of balconies. I live with my father and have to get permission to put anything into the ground so, I am using raised garden beds and vertical grow bags and intermixing veggies with flowers so as to not look so much like a garden when the HOA police come around lol. Good luck to you, you can do this!

Fantastic, every single element, so thought through and well researched....synergistic, multi purpose. I love your chicken coup design, the passion fruit shading. My passion fruit produced really well in it’s third year, and responded well to pruning (chop and drop). Having the chicken’s fertilising yours, possibly yours will bear earlier and you will have loads but it will need phosphorus, or all that nitrogen will put out a tonne of green growth.
