This is a complete peanuts growing guide for beginners. I talk about planting seeds, plant care and harvest. Toward the end of the video, you will see how I harvested my peanuts which were grown in a raised bed. #growingpeanuts #gardening #organicgardening #gardeninginkentucky #backyardgardening

I tried peanuts this year. Almost time to harvest here in zone 8B! One thing I loved is how nice the plants looked all summer long. Lots of green with little yellow flowers and they filled in really full. I am going to put them in my front bed next spring!

Thank you for putting together this video! Where did you get the peanuts you planted and what part of Kentucky are you in? Did you have any trouble with the deer or rabbits bothering your plants? For 10 years I've planted edamame here in Northern Kentucky where I live and this was the first year I didn't plant any at all. The seed was expensive and I had to put up multiple types of fencing to keep all of the critters from rampaging it. I'm looking for another type of cheaper legume to alternate on my land with the sun sugar cherry tomatoes I grow. Considering a valencia type peanut or chick pea but still researching.

You're welcome! I am in Western Kentucky. I used to have problems with deer but after my neighbor sold his land and people turned it into a subdivision, the deer did not come back anymore. There are a few rabbits and smaller animals that visit my garden from time to time. I plant a lot so I get to share some with them. Only thing I don't like is when they come and top my newly-planted seedlings. I cover some of my seedlings with a net especially the beans because they like eating them. When the animals get so wild and destructive, I spray Repel- all around my garden. This only happens around May or June. When my plants are bigger, they usually leave them alone. I got the peanut seeds from a friend. She got the seeds from Amazon. I have just been saving some seeds to plant each year. They also grow from the peanuts that I missed pulling off the ground.

Looks like you got a very nice harvest! I have read in some places that with legumes you want to leave the root nodules in the ground to put nitrogen into your soil. Did you put the roots back in your bed or just compost them?

I put them in my compost.
