I believe Michael Jackson should had spoken about vitiligo long time ago in order to avoid comments about his skin. These people talk about his skin and I understand them because they didnt KNOW!
@@DjIceCnS Why do you think it's BS? It's a real disease, there's pictures of him that prove he had it, his mom confirmed he had it on an Oprah interview, and his autopsy proved it.
@@blacklesnar. come on don't be this naive. From all the people on this earth THE MICHAEL JACKSON has this condition? Didn't it come to your mind that the lighter he got, the more he became the SUPERSTAR and King of Pop we know. He was first called the king of pop in 1989, by that time he was almost completely white. Prince for example was always light skin and he appealed to both black and white audiences. So they thought, lets make this guy also light skin/white. It sells better. The same with Beyonce. This fucking world is racist as heck. White sells better. You cant change that.
@@DjIceCnS You can't be serious... Michael Jackson had vitiligo. The autopsy confirms it, pictures confirm it, his family confirms, his friends confirmed it. Hell, even the BS liars from Leaving Neverland confirmed it in their fake "documentary." If you're denying the fact that he had vitiligo, then you're lost. Besides, Michael made the greatest selling new jack swing album, and, in my opinion, is largely responsible for why hip hop and black artists have a global appeal today. Michael was a proud black man.
People were saying how good he looked in the Bad era, Dangerous era, and the era's after that. You people had no idea how much Michael was sexualized by the fans the older he got. He couldn't even go on stage without fans whistling at him or shouting inappropriate comments. In speeches, the only thing that could be heard in the audiences were flirtatious whistles, inappropriate comments, and screams. People definitely didn't consider Michael ugly, especially as he got older. He had to deal more with being sexualized and violated by the public then being bashed for his physical appearance. Michael was seen as more of a heart throb in the late 80s and the later years then in the 70s to the early 80s sksksk. That probably did make him slightly uncomfortable though, fans would go as far as to trying to kiss him and touch him.
@@Lancehendrix813 True. When he “changed” that's when the fan girl and fan men frenzy went from a 100 to a trillion-😂😭. Back then being gay wasn't really the ideal thing people looked up to but here Michael had like probably 20 men trying to kiss him at once lol. His look is what partially brought in more people.
If he was black nobody would be complaining. They just felt abandoned and assumed Michael didn’t wanna be black when all Michael would do is collab with other black artists
I know it must have been hard to talk about but I feel like he might have saved people some negative reactions if he just came out and said he had vitiligo earlier than he did.
@@PonzWasTaken Maybe because he was embarrassed and wasn't ready to say anything? Maybe he was waiting for the controversy to die down? Michael Jackson always looked handsome anyways, I think he looked better in the late 80s and the early/late 90s. I crushed on Michael Jackson in the later years, he was always a gorgeous man but to be truthful people only really started complimenting on his looks alot when he made it to the Bad era, Dangerous era, and the era's after that. He became more of a sex figure as well. Even though all this controversy was going on, it seemed like he got praised more and judged less on his physical appearance. Second, the controversy probably didn't bother Michael when it first started. He has been through literal hell since he was 4-5 years old, so to be honest this was probably just another normal year for him. The simple fact I'm trying to make is that even though he got critized for his skin and the surgeries-He did become more of a sex figure the older he got. Michael didn't have to just face being bullied by the public, he was violated and overly sexualized by the public back then as well-He couldn't even make a speech or preform normally without people flirtatiously whistling at him or making comments. He got backlash, but also got alot of praise as well. The backlash overshadowed that though.
Second, when he came out and said he had Viltigo-People and the media didn't really believe him and still attacked him for apparently “wanting to be white". So, to be honest, saying something earlier wouldn't have really made a difference. Back then, “Vitiligo" wasn't either discovered or people barely knew about it-That's specifically why people didn't really believe Michael, back then people weren't sure as to what it was and wasn't even sure if it was a real thing.
Third, Michael was probably trying to figure out what was going on himself-Because, like I said before, Viltigo wasn't known or atleast was BARELY known.
Bad was a huge success, but you could also argue it was the first blow to his stardom. It was downhill from here, and this image change was shocking at the time and began turning people off.
@@allureofthelens8858His stardom was at its peak between late 80s to mid 90s. Bad world tour become highest grossing tour with largest attended audience in history, Premiere of Black or White watched by 500 million people (largest audience ever), His interview with Oprah still remained most watched TV interview ever, these are some of the examples of his ridiculous star power. Jeff Weiss from pitchfork has commented that The universal popularity of Michael Jackson was on per with pizza or polio vaccine at the time of Dangerous.
Lol these comments...most of yall probably didnt grow up during J5 Michael or OFF the Wall Michael, so you dont see the issue/fuss with MJ appearing white all of a sudden on a debut album that follows his/THE biggest selling album of all times, so thus; BIG expectations. Look, I love MJ and always will, and I personally think he still looked good in the Bad era, but the fact is this people; When you have been in the public eye since 6 years old looking straight up BLACK/browned skinned with afro and all during the 70s black power era, then 20+ years later, you appear looking like a Caucasian man...how the hell do you think people are gonna react?? Not EVERYBODY is gonna say "he's gorgeous" or "he's hot". Alot people are gonna be like "what the hell??" "Why is he white??" "What the hell happened to his skin??" Even if its just for a moment they think that, then go right to listening to the album. Some people r not gonna favor it (particularly his black audience, since that was his main audience for a time) Like the guy said and I ultimately think thats ONE of the reasons Bad did not do as well(sales wise) as Thriller despite having more number one hits from the album than any other album at the time. Another reason is most likely because he or his name atleast, started doing/being involved in some (what alot consider to be)"abnormal things/behavior"; (Elephant man bones, hyperbaric chamber, Bubbles, etc). I suppose buying the Beatles catalogue may have rubbed some people the wrong way, ? (I personally could care less about that though, as it was a good investment). But buying the beatles catalogue, and being bigger than Elvis?? White people of that time must have been losing their minds at the thought of a black man being THAT huge, lol so they set out to get MJ no doubt, with ironically things MJ himself already set in place. Back to topic though, Personally I absolutely adore Bad and the entirety of the Bad era of MJ, but I can definitely understand peoples discomfort with a black guy who they grew up with now all of a sudden looking like a white guy.
I understand and I agree alittle, he does look latino-ish during Bad. I'd say he looked 'mixed' during 85' pre Bad era, post Thriller era. The "We are the World"/'Captain EO" time period. But thats not the point. Point is, he no longer looked Black, after 25+ years(at the time) of him looking black. Yea, people are gonna be like WTF???
ULTIMATEbudokai3 true. In 93 is when he gets that full Caucasian skin tone with the red lipstick... I think if the pigmentation of his skin didn't change due to vitiligo he would have sold more records after thriller (not saying he would top it) and he would have had less people think he was a child molester... all that ruined his legacy. He would have probably outsold Elvis and at least tied with him or heck tie with the beatles... but he's Still the 3rd best selling artist.
ULTIMATEbudokai3 Good points plus they didn't have the technology that we have nowadays that also makes them even more confused of his difference of appearances
If you think white people would 'lose their minds' cos he bought the Beatles catalogue or was bigger than Elvis i don't think you've met many white people. Why would an average white person give a fuck about a financial decision that is in the stratosphere compared to their own? They've got better things to do, like day to day survival.
I agree, that then Michael was gonna get backlash, and he would've came out about his vitiligo, at the time so people knew. Because many didn't at the time, and he agreed, the nose surgery didnt help in his case, but he did cime ot about it in Oprah's interview in 93, but people chose to believe he was bleaching his skin, people will always be ignorant assholes. But I love Michael, always will, and who's cares about this, let's focus on what really matters his music. And Michael was always a beautiful man, with a great smile and good heart. We love you MICHAEL ❤️.
It wouldn't have mattered either way people wouldn't believe him, they didn't even believe him when he DID spoke out about it in 1993, imagine in 1987, the desease was BARELY known and people didn't even think it was a real thing until his autopsy proved it after he died. Even today, there ars ignorant people who choose to believe otherwise.
Žarko Čubrinoski Nope Michael had surgery on his scalp in April 1984 then he combed over his hair to hide it like usual. He would parten his hair so with the scar he could easily hide it by partening his hair. By 1986 he wore hair extensions but not wigs. 1995 he lost hair on his side and the back of his head where he was burned then wore a wig in 95.
First of all he is not bad looking in any way. Created in the image of God, Michael is and these jealous souls based people can kindly keep their harsh criticism to themselves. Its not always about the outward appearance. Look at the heart. Michael has a great heart.
Ok how could they say the 'new look' wasn't 'too hot'? seriously, he looked amazing and the album is a masterpiece.. gosh, people huh? well, some people were like that towards his then new look (which I personally hold as my fave, ever) but at least they KNEW and acknowledged he made GREAT music, like the dj said.
I’m a white guy born in 1985. By the time I had first seen Michael Jackson in a video on the TV, he was white (‘92). Loved the song, never heard it again, forgot… By the time I had watched another MJ video, he was again surely white (‘95). Became a fan, bought the HIStory album around the time it was released, then Dangerous and Bad shortly after… They were always playing his new short films on the TV and not the old stuff. HIStory era was all statues, super pale skin, and angry Michael… Digging deeper into his discography, boyyy, was I shocked to see the covers of Thriller and especially Off The Wall next! I thought he was always a white man too! But I’d never, ever thought anything much of it really… I had just thought “oh, well, so he was actually black” and still bought those albums as well, went home, and enjoyed them also from start to finish. But he’ll always be that HIStory-era Michael to me because that’s how I saw him first. My point is this: What the hell is all that fuss about MJ turning white before my time?! So what if he even “wanted to be white”? A lot of people basically just “wanna be black” by going to tan salons or laying under the Sun for hours. Even as a child, I had instantly thought of that, thinking of countless white people I’d see on the beaches in summer. Anybody may wanna be something else. Nobody has to conform to your personal standards! Final word: People are petty, judgmental, and obsessive… And all-around wack!
It does matter because skin bleaching is rooted in anti-blackness and colorism. Dark skin is universally seen as less attractive, and skin bleaching reinforces this idea.
@@malbrojay4740 Michael surely wasn’t anti-black! If he were, he would’ve also gradually distanced himself from other black people in his life starting with the Bad era. But you see the exact opposite especially with the Dangerous album’s short film co-stars and musical collaborators. As for his personal life, his well-known life-long love for Diana Ross alone proves he had nothing to do with anti-blackness or whatever. He just might have wanted to be white himself and that’s great! It would mean he simply wanted to look like one of us, that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Why is whiteness vilified? Dark skin is not “universally seen as less attractive”. Some white guys go out of their ways to adore and chase black women while some “strict” white women you know suddenly turn easy when approached by black men! There are no universal standards for attractiveness. People are wildly varied, even different members of a supposedly same group have such different personal tastes.
You Michael Jackson fans are so crazy ... I can tell most of you that are commenting are young as hell. During this time Michael wasn’t “White Michael” this was his follow up to Thriller some people had not even seen Captain EO and didn’t notice really that he was gradually getting lighter so when this album came out people were like WTF. That is a normal reaction to have to someone looking completely different. Not to mention he never said anything about his skin changing during that time so it was very odd
Your comment is spot on. My mom told me about how MJ didn't make many public appearances between 85-87 so people didn't really notice the change he was going through. It wasn't until my mom went to the record store and saw the Bad cover and she was shocked. She couldn't believe that was him. She thought he turned into a lightskin Puerto rican. It was especially shocking because OFF The Wall era really wasn't that long ago in '87 & to see his appearance drastically change like that was something crazy. You are right it was a natural reaction espcially since MJ did not tell the public of his skin condition and how many nose jobs he had and his new cleft chin. The Bad era is when the public started to turn on Mike. I'm a fan and so is my Mom who told me all about him during the 80s but these young fans have no idea how controversial he was. And '87 was only the beginning...
@@therealzdeal5630 yeah she was a preteen-young adult when Mike was in his prime so she's lived through it all. Shes a fan but shes always kept it 100 and never was afraid to criticize him. A lot of young fans think MJ was being bullied and to a certain extent he was BUT most of his problems(& problems with his public image) he brought on himself.
x1990x yeah I was 18 when BAD came out and I was shocked, because as a black person I didn’t understand why he done that to himself, I will admit during the 1983-4 period because I was such a big fan of his I would buy a magazine only if it had something on Michael, so notionally the magazine would have a picture of Michael and I noticed that in the pictures his nose was getting straighter, but he was still darkskin, but he came to London in 1985 and I actually noticed because I skipped school to see him right he was much lighter in all honesty I swept it under the rug and put it at the back of my mind now fast forward to 1987 ok like wait what the hell mike you look like a white/Hispanic female, these mj fans have no sense it’s like, Kendrick Lamar dropping a new album and he’s white, people are going to comment and wonder what’s going on, it’s natural
Some of you are getting a lil bit too offended in the comments. I was an MJ fan. My Mom is a fan and that's how I became of fan. BUT you have to understand that MJ was changing drastically before our eyes during this time so this was a NATURAL reaction. On top of that he didn't tell the world he had a skin condition either so people didn't know what to think. Remember the off the wall era wasn't that long ago in 1987 so to see him go from looking like he did in 1979/1980 til how he looked in 1987 was a drastic change. Let's also keep in mind the people who grew up with Mike since he was in the jackson 5. MJ didn't tell the world about his skin disease until 1993 but imo he should've did it earlier because by the time 1993 came around, people still didn't believe him. Plus the cleft in his chin he put in and the multiple nose jobs. Y'all have to understand it was a CRAZY TIME
Exactly! People act like they won’t say something crazy if a artist now a days went through a quick and drastic change. Imagine if Beyoncé put out a new album and all of a sudden she’s pale white? The world would have a field day on her.
@@Phillyhippie215Michael wasn't pale during the bad era He was lightskin Michael became pale during the dangerous era. Also Michael's original bad album poster was darker that the one that was shown to the media.
The orignal BAD album cover, Michael's complexion is Brown. I read in a article that Michael HATED the edited version (out of fear for the backlash he would receive from the media) and wanted to stick with the orignal cover. My guess his 'team' had better ideas and convinced Michael otherwise. It just makes me sad how the people in Michael's camp had more control that we thought. Don't get me wrong I love both album covers, and Michael looked sexy as hell during his Bad Era. I just wish that Michael would have stood his ground by stating that he wanted to keep the original album photo with no questions asked.
@Ian-hj4yt if you watch some rare videos of him during the late 80s and early 90s, you can see that his skin was still a little dark it was just lighter than what it was in the early 80s
@@RyanPente. oh yeah, in that sense, you're right. His skin during Bad and early Dangerous years had a more mixed tone. His skin was no longer black like in the Thriller years, but he still hadn't become pale. That would only happen around 93.
Some of you MJ fans are annoyingly delusional. It’s aggravating. Clearly people aren’t talking about his looks in general. It’s the drastic changes they weren’t comfortable with. And rightfully so, imagine if your favorite artist today came out looking nothing like they used too. New skin new face and new album with no explanation? You’re just gonna pretend like nothing happened?
@@makhtar6029 it's understandable that people were offput at the time People now would be shocked if one of the biggest celebrities in the world's appearance suddenly changed lol Especially in the social media era
Lol man, the "michael jackson we used to know" snippet, he's already half as dark as he had been and is using a lot of makeup. Pretty much the entire victory tour his skin was appearing lighter, sometimes darker depending on the stage lights and such. Somehow people didn't really notice all that much, but his skin was basically as light as bad era at that point. And the album cover for Bad makes him look a lot lighter than he generally did around then. Compare the thriller performance in Japan during the bad tour with some victory tour performances, and he actually looks even darker than most of the victory tour.
Valientlink i find with the victory tour from the July 1984 performance to the September performances he’s still dark but then around October he get lighter, but then by the concerts in December you can see his dark complexion come back
I think people noticed but it was more table talk at the time among black folks. The mainstream public caught wind of it after the release of bad and that’s when it became endless controversy. People also probably knew during victory that it could just be make up. Many black stars used lighter foundation at the time. It wasn’t that unusual. The Bad album wasn’t just “make up” anymore. The man turned “white”
@@JosexNieves I would go as far to say “fair complexion” a very soft European look. I think that’s what threw a lot of ppl off. It’s one thing to be lighter, but combined with the lighting, editing to make his face look very smooth (when we’ve been so used to his more masculine strong facial features). All that combined shocked some ppl.
@@Phillyhippie215 I don't know it was weird, like Michael definitely knew he was black, but the brightness from the original and edited one is a big gap, either way idk why it threw people off
People think about looks they often do so only in regards to society's standards. What looks are in regards to society's standards and what they are individually is different. There is no wrong look as long as it doesn't display hate or break laws. There are only relative "wrong" looks. People in this video are just rigid in their opinion about what they don't like and only value it on that basis. Is Asinine. Jennifer Batten said Michael was beautiful. That's an opinion I respect.
But the thing about it is; people grew up with him looking dark skinned & melanated like how he was in 70s to thriller. So for him to randomly look light skinned or whiter out of nowhere it pissed people off cause no one knew what vitiligo was.
His all albums are great his look is fine, And you need to stop judge people by their skin. Michael is at the top he is the king! And whoever disagree need to stop trust media and first meet the person before you even judge him. #MJINNOCENT #BLACKORWHITE #LEAVEHIMALONE #KINGOFPOP
Tbh, the new look and era disappointed a lot of people during that time. It shocked the world that the soft black artist with the magical Thriller album wearing 80s cloths now looked like a tough rock guy with rock pop music, where his skin looked mixed color. Anyways, the bad album is amazing, and his look looks fire
I know people are defending mj from the comments made about his appearance during, but tbf they're that hes ugly they're most shocked of how he has changed it happens to alot of celebs and michael didn't make his vitiligo public until 93 so the public should atelast be forgiven to assume that he was bleaching his skin
Mike really did bring some unnecessary negative attention his way due to some of his actions. And we as fans need to be realistic about that. Had Mike just been straight up about his vitiligo it might’ve saved much more controversy in the future. I think Mike stayed quiet intentionally thinking it would be an additional allure to his mysterious persona. It’s crazy to think how all of this snowballed against him later down the line. I feel bad for him because at the end of the day he still never deserved to treated so horribly.
Agree. All of his negative press was his fault IMO. Especially in the early 2000s. He planted the stories about sleeping in a chamber and the elephant man's bones. After getting accused of molestation in 93 he continuously had kids over after it looked really bad. His narcissism in the history era showing himself as statue's and portraying himself as a Christ like figure. Him dangling his baby off the balcony. I loved MJ when I was younger but he really did purposely turn his life into a circus. I think a lot of his stans/fans tend to victimize him but about 80% of his negative press was because of him. I no longer make excuses for the guy. I just listen to his music now and try to remember the good days when it was all about the music and not about what scandal he would put himself into next.
@@xoxo20000 I couldn’t agree more as well. The history era had many cringe moments all that you mentioned I completely with. Somehow Mike thought adopting a narcissistic approach would somehow put him in good standing with the general public. Which only made things worse. The most jaw dropping cringe moment for me will always be the interviews where he says “it’s ok to share your bed with children” as a “40 year old man”. It was at this moment I had to come to the realization, Mike was his own worst enemy. Even though the Stan in me understood he may had good intentions. The realist in me said “Mike you just encouraged REAL child predators all over the world to rationalize that it’s ok to sleep in bed with children” the way my gut hit the floor at that moment, I’ll never forget. How could Mike be so insensitive to children who are prayed on and victims of sexual child abuse? Is he that selfish and intent on trying to cause controversy? And don’t get me started with the baby dangling situation 🤦🏽🙄. It was at that moment I said the same thing. I’m just gonna enjoy his music, and no longer try to fight so hard as a Stan to defend him. If people talk shit, they just talk shit. I don’t care anymore 🤷🏽 Mike would just have to defend himself however he sees fit.
I became a fan in 87, so I remember all of this talk about his skin, and if he's 'wacko' etc. To me it was shocking when I saw the OFF THE WALL cover as a child. That's him?? And I thought plastic surgery involved the use of plastic, lol. The transformation that I started to see after the release of Bad was the feminisation of his appearance, and the transition from a tanned skintone to bleach white. I thought 'why couldn't he stick with the bad look?' But he almost felt like his transformation was nature taking course, that's what he said.
Michael’s face would have still been an open topic. Even without the skin condition Michael still would have looked drastically different from his thriller days. He was a plastic surgery junkie, and we need to come to terms with it. My pops said when Billie Jean video first dropped on MTV everyone noticed his nose change but it wasn’t a big deal because he still looked like the old Mike. Now fast forward to 87, you don’t think people are going to criticize his appearance?
Wtf is with these women!? Michael is sexy as hell, and they are saying he isn't hot?! How dare they!? Ugh oh well they aren't anything to look at, so how would they know what hot is? Smh I bet them girls changed their minds right quick after they saw him all sweaty on stage when he went on tour...
Elora Foxx They did change their mind. Some were asking questions about his skin but then changed their minds when he went on tour and we're like screw it I need to see him.
He’s gonna offend Black people because of his skin condition that he couldn’t control also that girl buying his album talking trash about him and his style should have just left that album there for the real fans
How is Michael having vitiligo gonna offend black people that guy pissed me off tbh imagine being that offended over a skin condition he could not control also that girl buying his album talking trash about his appearance should have left that album there for the real fans to buy fake fans don’t deserve to have it
The main trouble Is that in the original photo for the bad cover Michael looked More like thriller era but Sony just modify the picture all the way I mean Michael only ask for brushed eyes but Sony Man What else can say Sony
Okay, this is absolutely ridiculous of what that British reporter said about Michael's image. He doesn't have to say that Michael isn't like the Michael we used to know, Michael is still the guy that we still know. He hasn't been changed drastically! That's still the Michael we love no matter what. I love his image in the bad era. His black audience needs to chill.
when that Bad video premiered, there were millions of people who were stunned by the way he looked and didn't even believe that was him.....that's how much he had changed...his greatest degree of changed happened between the end of Thriller and the debut Bad
@@scorpionJB i know! And this video was around England at that time and they hardly knew anything about him. @@EmmyV2002 the thing is though he never needed plastic surgery....there never would have been an insults directed towards him about his appearance if he hadnt changed it the way he did....and he kept doing it and destroyed his appearance altogether and suffered allot of health problems because of it........he stiill made sound music but all of his albums after Thriller would have sold more than they did if he hadnt went that route...he would have had a happier life in the process
therealz deal exactly i fr hate those type of fans. All they ever do is “Bad era this Bad era that”. Or Black fans need to chill. Lmao Thriller is wayyy more iconic than bad. Everything that makes mj mj happened in the Thriller era. How can you like mike and not be obsessed with thriller and off the wall
We can all look back today and love the Bad album cover look, but back in the day it was kinda ridiculous, all the zippers and buckles were just a gimmick, a continuation from the Beat It look. He looked like the dancers from the movie Breakin' from 1984, but fashion in 1987 was heading in another direction and Michael was simply looking very clueless. So yes, great album, but bad look. No pun intended.
I know right? Joe really fucked up Michael's self-esteem when he called him all sorts of names. I felt sorry for him, how can a parent call their own offspring "ugly"?
The fact they speak about his looks (Nelson George... how he began to sing another song after hos death...) is the very definition of MASS BULLYING. Somehow adults think it's just fine, if they do it -and the next moment they expect of kids not be a bully... Practice what you preach?
That definitely wasn’t bullying. He spoke truth. People had no clue how to deal with a Black superstar turning white. Something the world has never seen before.
@@Phillyhippie215 yeah, yeah. If you don't understand something the natural reaction isn't asking, but jumping at the person and make fun of him... very... human. I guess. This was when I fell off MJ hard, didn't like his new look at all and Bad wasn't great in comparison to Thriller or OTW, plus black music had taken another turn towards hip hop, new jack swing, dancehall and freestyle so there was Janet Jackson, Bobby Brown, MJB, Shabba Ranks etc... My people will always be ahead of the curve with that, I mean, don't get me wrong, he was still the KoP but all the physical changes and accusations took away from his talent; even Neverland, which was like a hybrid of Graceland and Disneyland just seemed kinda gimmicky to me as a preteen; what fans like me really cared about was his talent, he never lost the talent but other stuff in his life just got bigger... sad!
I think dah glove one thought about hs make over for a long time, l think he new most young fanz would appeal to his new look and expanded his out look for global attention and to widen dah view finder and dah rest was hx...now wood dah average person do it ____
Def did not look his best during that time. He looked his absolute best during the thriller album. I would add the off the wall but he was still maturing in the face
