Appreciate it. Your video gave me the kick in the ass to get 'er done. For anyone else taking it on with a newer model, my '22 does not have a reservoir for the hydros. It has a vent plug on the side and a fill plug on top. It's still basically the same process.
Great video! Got a 2009 Bad Boy ZT Elite. The top port plugs are 1/4" hex. Man that was tough getting them off. You are right - it was one gallon + a quarter quart to top it off. Your video helped me work through the whole process, and she is now up and running. Thank you.
How are you liking the Maverick so far ? Did you get the Kawasaki engine or the Kohler ? Looking at getting a Maverick with the Kaw engine but supply is low this year - looking for input
@@deaconnyte9748 I got the Kohler, but I have heard great things about the Kawasaki. Overall I love the mower. Would buy it again if this one got stolen or fell off the trailer....
@@jeffarthur322 Picked up a 2021 54" Maverick with the Kawasaki engine this past weekend, drove 2.5 hours to pick up -only one I could find looking for a month - last ones they will get for the year , Im told - This Covid thing still sucking - Wife and I are in healthcare and havent missed a beat over the last year - be nice if everyone else would return back to work and get things going again. Its a nice mower, bumpier on my lawn then I expected - have a Trac seat on order and will be installing when it arrives.
@@south_coast I concur... I am both, though. Visual is good, but audio explaining what size ratchet for the bolts would have been handy, as well as why you pulled the neutral, lifted the rear end, etc, to explain the purge method. Fortunately, I had read up on a PDF for the procedure and was able to put that together with the video.
Loved your video. I followed what you did to the T on my ZT Elite and have a problem after completion. I removed each filter and let old oil drain. Put the new filters on. I "bled" each of the holding tanks until the new oil ran out each hole and put the plugs back in. Had to add some oil to each top tank to fill level. Started machine and it seemed to work. BUT, soon developed a grinding noise when operating the shift levers and doesn't have much forward speed. Am having trouble steering it straight. What did I miss?
Did you bleed your lines by lifting the mower, pulling the neutral pin at the rear, and moving the wheels in forward and reverse several times, then doing the same with it on the ground? That is the procedure for bleeding the air per the PDF I read off the BadBoyParts website.
Duh, follow ALL of South Coast's steps including the jacking up and running forward and backward. This purges air in the line and it fixed my botched oil change!
What is up South Coast!? While servicing my transaxles I ran into the same issue locking the trans into neutral. What you got to do is pull it out and use those linchpins to keep it extended. Hope that helps if you didnt figure it out already
That's what mine says...can use up to 40w motor oil in engine depending on ambient temperature ....I wouldn't go no heavier than 30sae in hot summer weather
Thanks for the well done video. I'm thinking about trying a hydro service on my 2021 bad boy maverick mower. It would be the first time I've done it. I talked to my bad boy dealer today. He said that the hydraulic reservoir is internal in the zt 3200. Maverick is a 2021 model
Great video! I'm curious why the manual for my mz magnum says the hydro system is a sealed system and requires no maintenence.. yet still says later that it's required at 50 hrs then every 250..?
I am not familiar with that particular model. I know some of them have sealed systems and others have serviceable systems. Look at your hydro gears and see if they have external filters. If so, they you probably need to do the first change at 50 then subsequent changes at 250 like you stated.
Good video! I am just curious to what that rod was, and what you were adjusting at the 13:35 point in the video. Was it necessary for the transaxle maintenance or just something extra you did?
It was just to adjust them so when the controls are at a neutral position the mower sits still. You can also adjust it there if one side is pulling a little more than the other.
Great Video, learned a lot and I’ll refer to it when 50 hrs is due. I have 22 on mine. I have a 747 too. Does yours smoke at crank up after sitting a week? Mine does. A few questions: Is that oil you bought at TS pricey? Filters? Also on that bleeder bolt you removed. Is that even necessary? It seems like you removed it and then put it back in after adding some oil...how long before you checked it until oil started coming out? Great 👍 video, keep Em’ coming brother
I haven't noticed any significant amount of smoke on start up after sitting. maybe a puff or two but it clears right up once I push the choke back in. The oil was $30/gallon, not sure what the filters cost, but I want to say $30 for the pair..Could probably find them cheaper elsewhere. The timing is a bit misleading in the video. It takes a long time for the oil to work its way into the hydro-gear. Without the bleeder removed you will get a bubble trapped and you will never properly fill the hydro-gear. Once you hit the 2 quart mark you need to start checking on the bleeder more frequently. I think I had a touch over 2 qts in before it came out the bleeder. Remove the bleeder before adding any oil. Thanks for watching. Hope it is helpful for ya.
Thx for connecting the bleeder connecting dot for me. My engine does what yours does on smoke at startup but it goes right away. Thx again for the great info too
Hey bud I just got a 2021 maverick 60" with the kawasaki motor, after about 2 mows it's creeping forward. Next time you're under there can you get a video with more detail of it's location... also do you spin them the adjustment rod the same direction. Thanks and keep the content coming. Just moved into a 5 acre lot . And this is my first real mower. No more city life for me
I just inherited one of these headaches and will be selling it due to all the complicated procedures and pricey parts one must buy to keep operational. Will stick with my very simple tractor w/ finishing mower.
is this about the same a zt elite..i see ur reservoirs are in a different spot than zts are....thx...but i think u did purge wrong...the wheels should have not moved the first time if u disengaged the trans
Wondering if you pulled out the transneutrlal bars when you had the mower elevated did the wheels still turn in both directions when you had mower on stands?
So I realized later that when I thought I was pulling the levers to put the hydro-gears in neutral, I was not pulling them far enough. I'd assume that they would not spin much if any if I had actually gotten them in neutral.
I missed why you needed to take the bolt out underneath. Was that so the oil can drain more easily? Or was it to make sure it was filling properly? Thank you!
I just purchased a s Used 2016 mz Magnum 54 and the left transaxle is weaker than the right, I'm at work now, would it just be low on fluid or need to be adjusted?
I’d check the fluid level for sure. If I bought a mower used I’d probably go ahead and change the oil and filters myself just to ensure all was well, same with the engine oil, oil filter, and air filter.
Looks like those covers would cause heat to build up around the oil filters.:( Sad the fill with grass and insulate it like that. I'll have to check my avenger
That’s a good point, but there are oil coolers for these. The trade off would be hitting the filter on something or puncturing it which would be a bad day.
Highly recommend running amsoil 100% synthetic in your Maverick. I did it with mine and it quieted it down and gave it a slight boost in power. Going to run Amsoil in the hydrostatic when I do the change next year. 🤌
The 2022 maverick don't have a cold fill reservoir tank no where...have to use a funnel unless its an extra to add....for $7800 they should've put one some where.....my battery location has no hydro fill tanks like yours...no wherez
Yeah that is interesting. Looks like they still have the Z3200 hydro gears so the process should be similar to change the fluid. Just weird that they would eliminate the reservoirs.
@@south_coast yea it’s weird..i looked into it alil more it said the have internal expansion tanks…witch I don’t really like cause i cant see the fluid level unless i take the plug off of the top.
Mine is same way.....I think it's due to the filler tanks in the past, cracking and leaking oil everywhere so they just put a filler plug to eliminate the issue...its an optional part now
I appreciate the input. Little stuff like this I don’t worry to much with it. If I get into anything more serious than this kind of work I’ll throw the boots on.
Yeah. I still love this thing. Just changed out the blades not long ago to some "gator" style hi-lift blades from copperhead and added a fuel shut off valve, but other than that, just standard maintenance and it runs like the day I bought it. Go check out my more recent videos. I have a whole playlist on my channel dedicated to this mower.
Watched him Cross thread those filters so many times that I shouldn't have any cross thread for the next 38 filter changes in my own life. Lost a whole minute of my life watching a guy who wouldn't spin her to the left until it sets and then go righty tighty
Thanks for takin the time to comment. It was a hard angle to get with a camera between me and the mower. I appreciate you watching and leaving the comment.
