What is your thought on multiple cages linked together to give them a lot of extra space? Not for one who burrows. Im slowly learning, cant have anyone for a few more years but meh need to learn now.

Can we have a minute of silence for the hamsters, mice and gerbils that end up in these 😞🙏

I work at a petstore and everytime someone is interested in small animals I tell them about what they need and how much hamsters run in a night and they are shocked at what kinda care they need. I also stop people from getting scented beddings and other bad things for their pets. I always tell people, bigger is better.

Sadly when I got my hammy Kara I got the original kaytee cage I didn’t know because it was my first time getting a hammy... and then I was watching your videos and realizing that my hammy was stressed and bar bitting... so I got her a slightly bigger one, which was stupid because it wasn’t that bigger, then I got her a bin cage that’s 600 something of floor space ^^ she is happier, thank you for teaching me the proper way to take care of my precious baby girl ;w;

I am a petsmart employee of 2 years and i sincerely want to thank you for posting these videos and getting the word out there so that people know not to buy these sh*t cages. Not only are they difficult to put together (it took us almost 45 minutes to put our display with the castle together) but they are also RIDICULOUSLY tiny and WAYYYY overpriced. Once again from one pet lover to another thank you so much! Also wanted to mention that a bunch of the toys for the tiny tales line got recalled as well basically anything that is blue and made of wood has been recalled, so all the beds and cannons and the little blue climbing ramp thing, my point is PetSmart really rushed into this line. They say there are 2 more cages coming out in 2019 too...

What really makes me annoyed is that “Tiny Tales” comes with stickers, like that just makes it look like more like a toy. I hope they stop selling these horrible products soon!

I totally agree these tiny cages are so mean to animals. Honestly if anyone still decides to stuff animals in tiny cages after being told why it's bad then they clearly don't know the basic rules of "Treat others the way you want to be treated back". You do not wish to be stuffed in a tiny room so don't stuff hamsters in tiny cages. Basic stuff people...

The water bottles are the weirdest part for me tbh. How are they even supposed to drink from that???? Looks like those hamsters are going to have to learn yoga to stay alive

I'm a petsmart employee and we have to carry the product in the store but every employee at our location tries to urge pet parents, old and young, to go with a much better option. It is genuinely really scary how many people walk into pet stores knowing they want a specific pet, but then they sit there and ask employees to basically tell them every detail about the care of the pet, meaning they've done no prior research and are therefore terribly unprepared for pet ownership. Channels like this one make me so happy because you provide really valuable information that doesnt face bias from a company trying to market their products regardless of quality. When I first got my bearded dragon, I spent hours doing research, and pet care channels were such an invaluable resource to me.

I made a complete syrian hamster guide because you inspired me to! I put in my guide " Most parents would usually look at something, small, and colorful, for a young child. Such as the Kaytee CritterTrail, Or the HabiTrail OVOS, Or the Tiny Tales sets by All Living Things. They are all pictured here." I then wrote "All these cages equal BAD, for Syrians and any other type of hamsters. All these are a very bad example of a cage, and PetSmart is the seller of these, when they supposedly are against these types of cages." I then wrote about a good cage "Now, let’s look at the PROPER cage sizes. An example of a good cage is the Prevue Pet Products 528” Universal Small Animal Home, as it is the proper size for Syrians. You can also make a bin cage, as long as it is 100 quarts." Hope you are proud of me Munchie! Thanks so so much for helping me out with learning about hamsters! You know what really makes my blood boil about these? Not the fact they exist - I'm actually giving them the benefit of the doubt that they're acceptable _temporary_ solutions (i.e. when transporting a small pet or when you have to temporarily resettle them [i.e. when cleaning their cage]) - but how they're so offensively marketed to children who likely don't know any better. I mean, give it a cute name ("tiny tales - your first big story in animal cruelty" is the full name btw), put a happy cartoony hamster on the packaging and use bright/flashy colors on the item and boom - who'd get attracted by that? Right, kids. And lemme guess ... somewhere on the packaging probably is a phrase along the lines of "just what your pet needs" or "perfect for ...". Bah.

My sylvanian family figures I had as a kid had a bigger house than this!!! Cant imagine keeping a live animal in this 😔

I know it's a hamster cage but any house with a basement with wire covering it isn't a "comfy house"

Used to work in a petstore and I couldn't tell you how many times I've had to turn people away because they were trying to fit their new hamster in cages like this. I always used this analogy "you could live in a small closet and honestly be fine in the way of surviving but would you really want to spend you're entire life in a small confined space like that? Wouldn't make you happy, right?" and I've had tons of customers who understood immediately and asked what was the best size for hamsters, how much space they need, etc. ones who were willing to learn and cared about their hamster. Videos like this are great for learning how to truly care for your hamster! Thanks for making them!

I had wanted a hamster for a year and I did so much research and the day I went to get a cage for the hamster I got really excited and just went straight away to get a random cage and by the time I got my 2 dwarfs I noticed that I paid £60 for a tiny cage but the next week I moved them to the zoo zone 2 which is 1metre long and 50cm wide and my hamsters are loving it... SO ALL BEGINNERS DONT DO WHAT I DID AND THINK BEFORE YOU SHOP!!! AND ADOPT DONT SHOP!!!

One time at pet smart I saw a little girl in her parents picking out a bad hamster cage, and me and my mom went over there and pretended we where buying a cage and I said “omg mom these cages are so small a hamster or gerbil or mouse CANT live in this, this is very sad, let’s go to Walmart and buy a big bin cage for it”

I work at a school and kids know I have hamsters and rats. They ask me questions all the time. Today one told me she had a male and a female Syrian and told me they had them both in either a critter trial or one of these ones. She just said it had two levels. I found out because I was telling another student who got a robo the cage I had for my Syrian because she took the robo back and got a Syrian. I was showing her the prevex one. She said she wanted babies and the pet store told her it would be okay to home them together! She got them at separate times too! I told her they would eat each other. And I showed her my dwarfs that I researched on and found it was okay to home two winter whites together. But my boys started fighting and they are both living separately now. She also said they have 5 rats and they have them in separate cages and co play male and females together. Idk how I'm suppose to educate her when its clearly the parents allowing this. It sucks so much! I tried just telling her what I do with mine and how much research I did. Ughhhhh it makes me sad

Hey! I got introduced to you yesterday, and I immediately planned a new cage. My old cage isn't even close to as small as that! It was quite roomy, but it was iron and there were platforms and tunnels. I felt so so bad, i have made a new cage for her right away. Thank you for informing me!

I can't get over that water bottle. I would like to know the design team's process for making it: Designer 1: "Now that we got the cage figured out, let's discuss the water bottle." Designer 2: "Well, obivously it should coordinate with the cage but still somewhat simple. So I think we should keep it a traditional clear bottle but to really jazz it up, let's make the nozzle going downward and insanely awkward. Sure it might leak and the hamster might have a hard time getting water but as long as the kids like it, who cares?" Designer 1: "I love it! Let's do that!" But in all seriousness though, who thought that design for a water bottle was a good idea? Your poor hamster is going to have a hard time getting water and since that water bottle leaks, the bedding will get all wet. And the size of that cage and the small tubes, horrible.

sadly my syrian hamster passed away last month, but when i first got him i bought him 2 critter trail cages thinking that would be the best for him, and then i found pet bloggers that basically said crittertrail is no good, and i tried to convince myself that they were wrong, i had hamsters in cages liek this before but after a week of and reading up about the new care guides for syrians, i quickly got him outta there and got him 2 40 gallon tanks i had connected together with tubes and i noticed a big difference in his behavior!!! he was more active didnt sleep all the time liek he did in the smaller cages... i plan on adopting naother syrian hamster next year, right now the wound is stil lto fresh after loosing my piko :( love the videos!

I had this cage for about 3 months. It was only meant to be a temporary cage but since I'm only 13 I couldn't afford a better one. But finally I upgraded to a bin cage and I've already noticed how much happier my hamster is😊

I always advetise for self build cages, so you have the ability to completely customize it for your and your animals needs. I am working on a farm, and wie only have self build cages and enviorments for all our animals. Its not as hard as people think it is and it can be way cheaper then buying a cage.

This cage isn't even suitable for a teddy bear. Oh wait it wouldn't even fit.

I have one of these for my pet • • • • • stone. my hamster on the other hand has an IKEA Detolf with 900 sq inches of floorspace.

Ugh! Seeing Hershey inside that cage broke my heart! I’m guilty of owning these cages when I was a kid, but. My mom always had two or three of the critter trail cages put together for our DWARF hamsters. And we would always buy better wheels than the ones that came with the cage. Thank you mom for being smart about that when I was just a kid. I’m now 33 and I would never buy one of those cages for any animal. My pet rabbits don’t even live in a cage, they are free range in the house. Thank you for speaking up for the helpless creatures who can’t! 😁 you’re an angel!

I'm still amazed that shops get away with selling these, if more people would research about hamsters then we wouldn't have to worry about these types of cages. I adopted my syrian hamster from the adoption4pets section in a pet store, and was told that he was a male and liked carrots. I sexed "him" and it's a female, and she hates carrots. She looks almost identical to Hershey.

That is good that you do this. My cousin bought a ven smaller cage for her two female syrian hamsters. Jesus i almost killed her. I adopted the hamsters from her and now they live in 60 gallon seperate. 💖💖Your videos are soooooo cool.

Growing up my dad had tons of hamster and we had cages just like this but we had a whole bed room set up with these cages that were connected and we all so had several big glass tanks that my dad custom made so the hamster could go in those also. And they had a big open area that was just like a fenced in yard. So basically they had a whole bedroom in our house. And my dad always couldn’t believe how people would buy one of these cage and think it’s big enough. And this was 20 years ago so these cages definitely should have been taken off the market. I actually still have the cages from when I was little and they are basically the same as the new cages. I don’t have any hamster in them . I’m actually not sure why i kept them lol... I actually have pet skunks and they are free to roam my entire home because like hamster they need tons of room so they don’t get stressed or feel confined. I signed because we need to get these off store shelves and educate the stores

My first hamster I got when I was roughly 10 years old in the early 2000's. I wanted one mostly because I was a fan of "Hamtaro" - I named my first two hamsters Pashmina and Sandy, respectively. They were both dwarves and housed in a Crittertrail. This was the norm back then, no one at the store told us that the cage wasn't suitable. I'm glad to hear employees educating potential hamster owners about their needs and deterring customers away from these cages. Though yesterday when I went to Petco, I saw some kids and their mother looking at the little hamsters and the child was trying to convince their parent - "It's only 14.99!". I bit my tongue as not to be rude, and it's not the child's fault - but a hamster, or any pet, is always going to be more than 14.99, unless you're getting a rock. I always wonder why pet stores don't try having large cages. Even if it was in addition to the small cages. Sure, they wouldn't sell as many, but even if they stocked just a few, they'd get a lot more money with each cage sold, and there are some people who like the idea of a big cage. Not to mention, with some of the giant cages, you could create a really cool looking display and use the opportunity to show case a lot of other small animal accessories. I know when I'm looking at small animal enclosures, my eye tends to gradually get drawn to bigger and bigger enclosures and I go 'well, that's just a little bit more than the last one I looked at...' until I'm buying something sized for ten rats even though I only have two. You could even lay out the store that way, so that your eye would naturally be drawn to larger and larger cages, and create a beautiful display with a cage that's taller than the customer and filled with massive tunnels, hides and chew toys, the kind you could have to stand there and search for a minute to figure out where your pet even is in there. If you made it look fun and exciting enough, you could probably get some people to go crazy buying a bunch of hides to fill up a larger cage.

You have inspired me to design small animal cages. My ultimate goal is to design them, then build and sell them.

Gerbils like to dig so they require extra substrate for burrowing so putting them in tiny cages is asking them to be stressed

It's just cruel to display hamsters as "toys" they are living beings and they have needs just as us humans, I hope they remove those horrible cages off the shelves, I love watching you videos as well they really help me to care for my hammy.

Watching these videos makes me so sad, because I kept my hamster in a small cage like these her whole life. I was a child when I had her but I just wish I had known better. I have a hedgehog right now (he's a little over 5yrs, which makes him an old man in hedgehog years) and do plan to get another hamster or a mouse after his time has passed. I'm waiting because I like to only have 1 pet at a time.

My parents think that the cage I got is big enough, I have given up on telling them it is less than half the required size.

The cage size almost looked bearable until the instructions made you put all that crap in there. I would skip that ledge, its right on top of the bedding and serves no use. I would also skip that useless wheel. Sadly I don't see where to put the good wheel in that cage. I have made it a rule in the past not to use the wheels and water bottles that come with the cages. They are always crap. Even if the water bottle just drips every five seconds, you will end up with a lot of wet bedding. Also you don't know if your hamster drinks and how much. Cages are marketed to parents, not hamsters. Sadly. I've seen a lot of death traps in the stores... Thank you for doing this video!

I've seen those and Syrians are escape artists, from my experience at a pet store, and they could easily pull open the door. I bought one for my mouse, now I'm taking it back. Your videos are very helpful.

I was watching this thinking "wait can you show your foster pet on camera, isn't that a violation of their rights or something?" Then I realized that fostering hamsters is probably a little different than fostering humans....

This is why I take my job at petco job so seriously when it comes to someone wanting to buy any of the animals. I was so happy when my first family bought a 40 gallon Breeder, and a 12 inch wheel for their Syrian hamster.

I’m so glad my mom was able to understand when I explained how small cages are inadequate and can’t be used. So instead of a small cage, I’m getting an ikea detolf and a Syrian hamster! :)

Watching these helps me realize the mistakes I made with the first hamster I was kind of forced to adopt (It was my cousins but she kept 'forgetting' to feed it so I told her off and took it and was not able to find another home. He did live for about three and a half years but those first two were in cages like these ones shown because I didn't know better) I now have his son in a much bigger cage and I never thought they could be so active and happy. I do not own a hamster, but do plan on getting a syrian in the future, and I want to thank you for these videos. As someone who owns a bird, I can say birds get the same garbage cages too! It's disgusting how people cram cockatiels into these tiny little "fun" shaped cages and just leave them there, or worst, round cages! Birds need corners and LOTS of space in order to feel safe. All of this makes me feel awful for poor animals that have to be crammed into tiny, very unsafe cages. ):

I literally just came across your channel and I have never owned a hamster but as someone who owns a pet, I know that every pet needs the adequate space to exercise and be comfortable as well as it being easy to give them food, water and to be able to get them out. I really hope people become more educated on this and give their pets the best life possible, thank you for bringing attention to this issue!

I don’t own or plan on owning a hamster of any kind but this is just bad for the animals! If parents haven’t done their research they could kill the pet AND make the child very sad! I don’t have anything to say that you haven’t said in this video.. but one of my friends are thinking about getting a hamster and I need to send these videos to him just to make sure the hamster has a good life.

I’ve been watching these reviews for fun while I think about where to get a travel cage for my hammy to take her to the vet in, because all the travel cages I’ve seen so far aren’t easy enough to access the ham through for the vet.. or too flimsy to carry :/ I’m so glad you showed your hamster carrier! Ugh these cages are so bad I made a bin cage and I totally recommend them because I used to have a wire cage and when I tried to sleep my hamster would bite on the wire with a bin cage I can sleep I love bin cages
