I've been doing handyman work since 2016, but for free. Coincidentally, 2016 is when we bought our house. Some days are great, other days it seems like everything wants to fight me. It's good to see I'm not the only one!

Been going handyman work for 8 years now pretty much full time in the Phoenix area. I used to stress about my schedule but had to learn that you just don't know what you're getting into until you're there and see the big picture. Sometimes it's a simple tweek, sometimes it's a complete $h!t$how. If you take pride in your work you won't leave until things are tight...even things that weren't brought up and discovered along the way. Gotta be able to sleep at night. Thanks for what you do👍

People laugh at me but I have one of those small stinger shop vacs from The Depot that I use to suck water out of irrigation holes, sucking water out of water lines if I have to sweat a hose bib or sucking the water out of a dishwasher drain line or toilet before changing it just to keep the mess down.

Head is cracked somewhere from not being winterized correctly or at all. It's a $9. head with nozzle, Hunter PGP. Water off, unscrew entire head and screw new one on. Now water on, and adjust arc and rotation. Done
@lukekowal3244
@lukekowal3244 Месяц назад
That is incorrect. Hunter PGP red nozzle are prone to a jar top leak after 20 years. I've replaced thousands in my 24 year work experience as a lawn irrigation service tech. Even new hunter pgp, ultra, and even I-20. Can be tightened by hand more than what factory tightens the head.

I hate having to go back. Every time I get one of these sprinkler jobs at the beginning of the season I always buy enough heads to replace 25% of what the customer has. If one has failed it is NEVER just one for me. I hit the big box stores up enough that I'll return whatever I don't need during another trip. I really hate going back that much.

I worked irrigation for 10 years, hunter heads- starting point into the right. Rain birds starting point to the left. Don’t mess around with the pgp or 5004 just swap em. Cheek the saddles and raiser’s if it’s still leaking. If it’s at the end of a driveway and leaks when the zone is done running, they sell a check Valve and retainer for the pgp’s

When a rotary head leaks between the body and the head, there is no reliable fix. Easier to just changed the whole head, including the body. I have 2 acres of rotary heads.

All that hand cupping to get rid of the water is better done with a little battery wet dry vac. I have ryobi's one gallon version and it helps me on so many little jobs. It pulls the water out of toilets, cleans up messes when I finish a job, etc.

at 6:50 if heads are seeping, yes water is getting by the valve, sometimes the smallest particle of dirt can cause water to get past. manually open and close valve a few times can cause enough pressure changes quickly and force the debris out allowing valve to seat completely. If not close water supply remove top of valve cover and clean out valve.

That’s why I don’t use Hunter heads, I have 30+ year old Hardie (pre-Irritrol) valves and Rain Bird Maxi Paws that I’ve never replaced.
@warrathblacktiger5566
@warrathblacktiger5566 Месяц назад
Ya once they leak like that you just pull the head and get another it’s not worth effort to rebuild. Easiest way is to wiggle the top that packs the dirt and simply unscrew very carefully and screw new one in . When breaker jammed that tight I usually dig it out otherwise your going be visiting it several dozen times

For most of the irrigation valves. It almost the same or cheaper if you buy a new valve then the gasket kit. Because it can be the gasket letting the water pass or sometimes it’s the solonoid. Also here in Washington we winterize the irrigation system with an air compressor.

You need to add 3 tools to this job 1. Cordless vacuum 2. 20 in vacuum wand 3. Klein bit driver ratchet. Vacuum to clean out pipe Wand to reach into head hole And ratchet to get next to the box
@TheHandyman1

I did end up using a 1/4" ratchet and a Philips head bit to get those screws snugged down. I'm going to look into the Klein bit driver ratchet. I always need a useful tool

@TheHandyman1 I'm an irrigation tech, and my most used tool is my m18 cordless vacuum. Muck clogs everything, so eliminating as much dirt from the plumbing helps. Also for $13 the ratchet is smaller than a stubby driver and lives in arms reach when needed
@matteberry58
@matteberry58 3 месяца назад
The PGP ADJ rotor adjusts in the counter clockwise direction, so you install it for the clockwise direction where you want it to stop and then adjust it counter clockwise direction. Rainbird rotor heads adjust in the clockwise direction. The scratching on the pop up part is caused by the head being set too low in the ground. You needed to raise a couple of those of them. The trash in the valve body was probably causing the seeping valve. This happens occasionally. 20 years experience Installing and repairing sprinkler systems.

Unfornunately when you buy the heads from home depot they don't give you the different nozzle options. You want to use different nozzles depending on the arc adjustment. Larger arc means bigger nozzle and visa versa. Otherwise you get more water being applied the smaller the arc is.

What is the PSI being used? You can verify the PSI by using the application chart of the nozzle on that sprinkler, it will have a PSI to distance measurement. Most of those want to be under 40 PSI where homes are usually over 60 psi.
