That's called confidence in fellow citizens. People depend on others to not to cause accidents but themselves.You can walk in the middle of street and be assured that no one will hit you.You can take wrong turns,unwarranted stoppages,jump red light,cows walking middle of street,hawkers on pavement,no lane descipline.indian streets ( atleast internal roads) are not meant for cars and heavy vehicles.Most you can derive motor bike which does not need any lane descipline.If you are driving car within city then be prepared for blood pressure.

I don't think it's any problem . Come to Kolkata during rush hour I am sure after you come and can drive at 20 kmph then I am sure you can fly through asteroid belt if you ever get a chance to go to Saturn.
