It's illegally for a car to use/park in/stop in a bike lane.
As of June 3 2024 you must give at least 1m of space when passing cyclists - measured from the extremities, i.e. side mirror to handle bar.
If you can safely stop for a yellow light, you must do so.
Pull over and stop when there are emergency vehicles with sirens.
Don't go through a crosswalk if there are pedestrians in it on your half of the road.
Don't enter an intersection unless there's enough space for you to exit it.
I've attempted to report the more blatant/dangerous incidents (going the wrong way around roundabouts or one-way roads, blocking bike lanes, illegally passing, etc.) but the response has essentially been that it's not a good use of traffic enforcement resources to pursue any of it.
Specific clips:
- At 2:32, car in right lane turns into oncoming traffic; video skips 30s to the next intersection.
- At 4:27, they could have waited a few seconds for me to move over after the parked car. Plus they turned left at the next intersection so even if I hadn't moved over, it would have only been a very short wait behind me.
- At 4:35, it's very difficult/impossible to pass a cyclist with 1m of space (unless they cross the center line, which isn't possible with oncoming traffic). Are cyclists meant to physically block cars by cycling in the middle of the lane? That seems likely to result in even closer passing.
- At 7:09, there's no right turn on red.
- At 7:16, a car comes from the right (travelling leftwards) and turns left (towards the camera) through a red light.
- At 9:38, truck goes straight even though there's a must-turn-right sign (bikes excepted).
- At 9:48, there's a no-left-turn sign.
- At 10:04, the car tries to turn into a no-entry sign, then seems to notice and stops.
- At 10:17, the small white car is crawling along after missing the right turn lane, then decides to turn right at the wrong spot.
- At 10:48, the red car doesn't even pretend to stop at the stop sign.
- At 10:55, the oncoming car has a stop sign which it completely ignores.
- At 11:56, 2 cars turning right ignore the red light (don't stop at the stop line).
- At 12:31, the car neither stops nor signals.
- At 12:40, right turning car doesn't stop at red light. And across the intersection, several cars are blocking the crosswalk.
- At 13:10, the car doesn't stop at the stop sign then doesn't signal turning left at the alley.
- At 13:26, it's illegal to do a u-turn at an intersection with a stop sign (in Vancouver).
- At 14:23, and the clip after, the cars were approaching very fast and appeared to realize they needed to stop at the last second.
- At 14:40, the car stops well beyond the stop line, then does the most confusing left turn I've seen (without signalling), cutting me off for no reason.
- At 15:06, the driver is clearly distracted since they're veering off towards the side.
- At 15:14, the truck is probably speeding (limit is 30 on this street) and did 2 turns (plus 2 lanes changes, in theory) in quick succession without signalling.
- At 15:39, the city just installed these redundant yield-to-roundabout-traffic signs, but this car still did it wrong.
- At 15:49, not only is the car well into the crosswalk, it's signalling a left turn which doesn't make sense. The taxi is also advancing into the crosswalk before the light changes.
- At 16:08, the car is waiting in the bike box.
- At 16:38, the white car turning left.
- At 17:53, the truck backs into the bike lane without checking for bikes (or pedestrians presumably).
- At 20:04, the white car behind the pillar is sitting on the crosswalk for ages - the next clip is 20s later, and it's still there. Same with the dark car in the next clip.
- At 21:15, you can see the driver in the blue car using their phone as I go past.
- At 23:32 you can see the car stopped in the distance, then the video jumps 10s to the no-stopping sign at that point.
- At 23:50, van is parked half in the handicap spot.
- At 25:11, one of these is not a modo.
- At 26:20, the 3rd car on the left is parked on the wrong side of the road (one-way part of the road hasn't started yet). Similarly for the next clip.
- At 29:09, a preview of all the illegally-parked cars on 59th, from a distance.
