In addition to the film looking expired, those are light leaks, you need to seal the camera.. and try not use 200 ISO in low light. :)

Honestly, super into these photos. The tints and lighting and everything were so interesting even if they weren’t what you were expecting! Keep sharing your film camera journey!

This made me nostalgic for my film days! Still a fun batch anyway I think! As someone else said: those are light leaks. It’s a good idea after loading the film to just “get rid of” the first 2 or 3 shots of the film after loading it as duds, since it’s possible even in a dark area you’ll get those light leaks. It’s fun because sometimes the light leaks make the photo a interesting result! I’m also not sure if your cameras have a light meter or not, when you hold the shutter, but not click it, you should hear beeping to indicate the light meter is too low or too high for the exposure. Older cameras may be hit or miss with the light meter broken, in case any further cameras you buy indicate if it is working or not to help indicate the price. I recommend a 35mm film camera too! A good starter one is the Nikon EM or Canon A1. Happy shooting Pato, I hope you share more results in the future! 📸 :)

yo! im a film lab worker so some advice, no judging cause film is pretty hard, but once you nail it its amazing!!! so keep shooting, its a timeless material, so its worth it so first of all you camera might not close all the way hence the red light leaks, so i suggest to get a black tape and seal it when you shoot (in places where the camera opens) OR if its not a stock film but rolled in a lab (sorry im not english idk but labs make film from already existing ones) so they could've fucked up the process and exposed the film a little while loading it in those rolls:) second if your film is expired and you shoot it in low light it will almost always have veil, for better photos ask to scan on a more contrast scanner (fuji frontier for example is standart! we use those for film from 1975 and it looks so much better), but i dont think they could've done better with yours:) third if you want a manual camera - choose something simple, idk about where you live but post soviet countries have Zenit and FED, old cameras are solid, don't be afraid to buy second hand and they are not as hard and expensive to fix fourth don't be afraid to ask employees at your local lab to help you with the process - so much people get blank film cause they were too shy to ask us how to properly load it in their camera fifth gold has iso 100 and 200, its for daylight shooting OR shooting with a flash within a meter, so if you want to shoot with bad lighting - the more iso the better, learn more about photography setting because film and digital cameras are the same in this aspect, so you'll choose for your need the next time! also they gave you a print screen (all the photos on one sheet), so you can see what you got and THEN print the ones you like, but also why didn't you scan for digital jpg photos? sorry idk about americsn process:) good luck and dont get rid of your film, it stays forever, thats the beauty and ask anything, im always happy to help

Shooting film is so funnnnn ! The results are always very random but the joy of even getting a single good good one is so worth it to me :) When shooting everyday stuff I tend to go for the cheaper B&W films, with low ISO, as they are really nice when you're getting used to your camera but not pricey enough that you feel like wasting ur money/feel too disappointed (I really liked Fomapan Creative 200 for example, but you'll have to use your flash pretty often) Hope you continue shooting film and maybe show us some of the results with the Portra 400 !

so basically film can be daylight balanced or tungsten for shooting at night. in addition to that it has iso which is pretty low for both of the stocks you had (200 and 400). for shooting inside the 800 is a minimum and due to white balance the photos turned out yellow in artificial light :)) iso 200 should be used in very good light conditions or with flash so don’t give up on film photography just learn from your mistakes!

Light leak for sure. Possibly had the ISO (ASA on the front of the camera) set too high as well. Love the auto boy though, I’ve had one in the past and loved the results.

Really cool video, I've had this urge to get into doing film photography at the beginning of this year cause there's something fun about developing it.
