I got one of these for my 105 year old Bulgarian grandmother and she pumped out some of the best post-industrial, Coil-esque, "this is making me not miss the big band swing days," polymetaphoric, new gabber, "we didn't have the Grid back in my day you MPC sample chopping nerds," retro 2010s synthwave bangers out there.
I got to be honest with you, I don't really care much about gear, but your charisma, scriptwriting, editing and jams are the reason I keep looking forward to every video you upload, great stuff!
Just imagine how sterile quantum-computing converters are going to sound … 😖 I use only unpolished rocks as AD/DA converters, for that vintage prehistoric sound.💡
@@StanleyKubick1 I know he said "Channel", But seriously, CBS is a channel with many show's, No one say's it was shown on CBS, they might say it was shown on 60 mts for example 🤪AudioPlz has other show's, Better-Gear being one. The Digitak II is being featured on the show known as "Bad-Gear" . Anyway it didn't appear on his "Better-Gear" show. That's for sure. 🤣😂🤣 Here's some stuff from his "Better-Gear" show. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pPUYGK80yc0.html
I just realised that this is the only channel I watch with my hands on the keyboard, so I can rewind and pause on meme frames. You, sir, have created a new content format: "watch like you were also editing media". Well played! 😂
One of my favorite finale jams yet. I could really get down to that in a proper setting. Proof that if you throw enough bad gear at a wall, most of it is probably out of warranty
Congrats dude, looks like the synth manufacturers are finally giving your work recognition by sending you their latest gear to dissect...fingers crossed you'll get the new dreadbox Murmux adept I ust saw launched on their channel before tuning in for my Friday meme & music fix
@@AudioPilz I have recently dug out my A5000 with converted zip drive and after ten minutes of nostalgia I was worried it would fall through the floorboards it was so heavy. i would like to sell it but it would likely cost more to post it.
For the first time on your channel, I just saw a recycled meme from another video of yours. Which is a massive accomplishment considering you have never run out of memes. Sincerely, a nearly day one subscriber
An original plus the new one will be a great setup. 8 drum tracks and 8 midi on the mk1. 16 tracks on the mk2 to do what ever you want with. Sample tracks,midi........ I am certaiinly keeping my OG and am buying a mk2
Same situation bro, feels very 💩 for real, the only hope is a software update, otherwise it will be a 💩 situation I wonder if there is anyone in the world who would want to buy mono dt1 if the dt2 is 100 dollars more than recent silver anniversary update and has so much features😢😢😢 Like fr, Digitakt is good, but i am pissed off that they dropped stereo version less then in a year after dropping their anniversary digitakt Looks like Elektron chose to became an Apple in musical world for real, very sad😢
Hint 1: Awhile back AudioPilz mentioned he was selling his Digitak I. Hint 2: Elekrton announced they had stopped production. Hint 3: They were on sale here in the US. I mentioned in that post, I'll hold onto my TR-8S till the new Digitak comes out. But it's cool you bought the old one. They are being dumped for like $500 now ? Awesome !
@@tscanlonesq browsing the elektron forums it seems we are getting firmware updates because we are also beta testers, with problems not mentioned in RU-vid videos so far.
Whenever I consider one of these boxes I go and watch a video and realise I have absolutely no desire to try and learn this. If I had a wall of synths it might be useful as a sequencer but given the limitations of polyphony I'd go elsewhere, like a computer? Love that it's straight to BG - HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!!! And ty Mr Pilz
You can absolutely tell that you are used to the workflow of the Digitakt. Fantastic sounds and rythms. These jams were up there with my all time favorite. Keep up the good work! :D
@@afxtwinreverb Tell you what a remake of the the bitimbral megabeast that is the SH201 would be brilliant. It would cost 9000£ and be more of an obstacle than an instrument but heck it'd be exciting for a bit
In general, Bad Gear episodes are the best way to get a quick overview and intro to a product. Pros & Cons, fun Memes, fantastic music that really show how the instrument can shine in production and fun stories. Big LIKE!! Thank you
Ooooo my dude getting long term loans as he was destined with quality, memes, enjoyment and heart he puts to each one of these little episodes every week ❤ Happy weekend my dude!
Elektron: We might as well take the L early and call it a day No but seriously, you're reviews are pretty well balanced and fun so it's nice to see Elektron recognizing you
It would be interesting which motivation Elektron had to release a special edition of Version 1 only weeks before the released the update. I bet there are some customers annoyed about that move.
Being a single Elektron device owner currently(ST), and narrowly missing taking advantage of the 25th Anniversary DT1 sale at Sweetwater late last month, I'm very excited to get the DT2 when it comes back into stock. Love the workflow and wished I'd done more research before buying into the MPC ecosystem, hence why I'm currently trying to sell my MPC Live 2. Love the content. Like others, I frequently pause and rewind, for story time with your meme selections. Cheers to another great video.
That hit the spot! Our Bad Gear guide Florian tells everyone to go out and buy an OG Digitakt... ...just two weeks after I went out and bought an OG Digitakt
0:33 Steaming pile of horse dung are in fact preferred by farmers since it contain more nutrients then the 4 times rumination cow does a complex process involving regurgitation, remastication, insalivation, and deglutition, very similar to Electron UI , ending into a steaming pile of cow dung.
I completely agree with the hater saying "no internal battery, zzzzzz" like the point of "handbox form factor" music making hardware is to take it wherever without having to juggle multiple expensive electrical gadgets wired to each other. People always say "well, rip cords!!" but you don't see them juggling an external battery pack with their Gameboys, PSPs, Nintendo Switches, Steam Decks etc do you? That's because no one wants a handheld-sized device that isn't actually handheld, unless, for some extremely strange reason, it's a groovebox with G.A.S. gravity behind it that makes people want one despite its flaws because of social proof and validation or something
I think the upgrades are okay, but to me Digitakt was never meant to replace a DAW. I see it as a drum machine- its more than powerful enough to do that. I love the Digi to start off the track, build the rhythm part, the just overdub in the DAW (overbridge is addmitting its ending up in the DAW anyway). On the one occasion I really needed a stereo sample, I split the file in two, left and right (on my computer), then trigger the two samples panned hard left and right at the same time= stereo.
I love Abelton. Using a mouse & keyboard isn't too complicated.... for most people. Plus there are a ton of midi controller's/keyboard. If you got ton's of $$$ to spend on hardware cool. I like both option's. 🤪
For me and my workflow the only thing missing in the original D1 was a chorus. With that addressed in the D2 it now becomes a more "complete" box for any task. Drums, beats, synth and sound design as well a scratch pad for ideas or to create complete songs. I for one love that fact that Elektron is making small refining updates rather than screwing up an already great piece of gear. If it ain't broken, don't fix it. Given how Elektron treats their products lifecycles I bet the D1 is now in line for a major fw update to give it most of the D2 functionality, except stereo tracks of course. It will come after the D2 news has settled down.
When this product came out I realized that I am done buying any new gear for the foreseeable future. Imposed limitations that are gradually taken away with a new model every few years is rubbish. The new features on this particular item are no brainer options many people always have wanted, and in some cases could be included in pre-existing gear with a firmware update. I am sure people will put this to good use. People will buy it, a couple years later there will be a new carrot on a stick with less than a handful of new features, and the disgraceful cycle will continue. Also, thank you for doing these videos. You are an antidote to the gear shills, and you bring a lot of joy to people.❤
Also, instruments should last for decades. If we continue making new products just to make money on these short time spans, we will eventually run out of stuff to make more stuff with, and most likely completely destroy our ecology while doing so, and kill eachother for whatever is left. That is why I think this item is bullshit, and many other products as well.
@@AudioPilz Thank YOU. I look forward to your weekly episodes, good times. I hope you get to take time off on the regular to do other things you enjoy too.
Also, this is not 16bit graphics. It's an on/off oled with no shades of gray. It's 1bit graphics. I have no beef with it, it's clear and readable Scandinavian hieroglyphics, once you get used to it.
I like it a lot. Clear and concise. What is illegible though is all the people who complained about the original yellow display and are now complaining this one isn't yellow.
@@AudioPilz it's the same grid slicing that's available on my OG DT. No excuse, manual chopping has been on samplers since the 80s. It's ridiculous for $1,000 sampler not to have it in 2024. You can have that feature in any other box at any other price point. I'll stick with my OG DT and Octatrack MK2. 🙃
I’d say the lack of polyphony is even more insulting in this day and age. . A $10 ARM A9 SOC from 2007 can handle massive polyphony + high track counts, as seen in the Synthstrom Deluge. Digitakt 2 is sticking with the same underpowered 200mhz SOC from Digitakt 1, plus a Sharc DSP chip for audio, which lacks the power of comparatively priced general purpose ARM chips. Digitakt 1 and 2 are such wonderful, brilliantly designed machines otherwise, but I don’t get why Elektron would tie their arms behind their back with obsolete technology. It could be so much more with a little extra oomph under the hood.
@@AdamsOlympia I was unaware that this new machine doesn't have an updated processor! Holy cow, that's awful. Agree about polyphony, too. They released the same chipset from DT1 in 2024 and charged 1,000 for it?!?!! Nasty work
I’m a MK1 junkie, and honestly I actually don’t feel the need to change to the MK2. Over the years I’ve acquired enough stuff that addresses the biggest upgrades of the new unit (e.g, using my mk1 with an Octatrack and OXi One). It a great device for anyone in the market for a Digitakt, and the MK1 did need upgrading, but I can’t justify throwing away a grand just to have the ‘new’ one when the ‘old’ one is still doing me so well 🤷♂️
Yep..... people are going to like your music no matter what you use as long as it's good music :) . Save that money and put it towards a Moog One .... lol
The mems are designed to improve your hand eye coordination which subsequently improves your music abilities, And they're hilarious too 😂 Yamaha ry30 👍
What do you call a SimplTrek that can't be battery powered, is bigger, heavier, has less storage, and costs twice as much made by Elektron? Digitakt II obviously. Oh? the DTII has overbridge? That's nice. I can control most of the SimplTrek using MIDI and still add external IO audio with USB compliant audio... Now how often do Elektron owners USE overbridge? Also, I have another check mark for my bucketlist... I THINK one of my comments is on the wall of comments at 5:51. My life is now complete.
Yeah I had a hunch this bad boy would end up here. Lotta seemingly redundant crap releasing these past few months, granted that seems to just be electronic instruments in a nutshell tbh lmao. Great content as always!
Once again another great episode! The addition of stereo and another 19 GB is nice, the new compressor functionality is really nice. However multiple outs is the feature I would have most wanted in the D2.
Can I be biased and hate it anyway due to it being Elektron, overpriced and under-spec’d compared to most Akai, Emu, Roland, and Yamaha samplers from last century? If I wanted this much disappointment I’d go mountain climbing in the Netherlands.
Yep, it's Friday night.. oh no it's not, it's past midnight (after a quick look of the clock). Saturday morning it is then. I click like and press play 🤟😉
@@AudioPilz My comment was mean and I apologize. These are charming boxes but it's hard to justify the price tag when compared to the perpetually underrated modern MPCs. I also wish the MPCs had the parameter locks because its a really fun and powerful feature.
Yeah, that's a software thing. Elektron sequencers seem to be based on sequences with note events that define everything else (from what sound source to use to what effects and parameters for everything). Most stuff defines all of that info on the track, and the sequence just contains basic midi note events and automation on every track. Although, if the sequencer is properly abstracted to implement midi with program change, you get "parameter lock". It's more like freezing automation to a sequence step instead of letting it vary with every clock tick. Novation also pulled it off with the og Circuit, I'm pretty sure you can do the same thing on some old Yamaha boxes, but Elektron made it popular as a workflow because they let you change almost everything in the box for every step. We should be asking grooveboxes/samplers to work like this, by now. Akai software has always, always sucked.
That meme of the old guy waiting on his digitakt silver plated model to be delivered reading about the digitakt 2 got me laughing so hard. That was almost me.
So, it’s just gone from monophonic mono-channel, to now monophonic stereo channels … ? And now has slightly better sampling and sample editing capability? And some new sample playback features?
Dare you to shrink meme exposure time to just enough for monitor LEDs to refresh. This way they will go straight to the subconscious and I don't need to pause the video to enjoy your sense of humor.
Hah what a nice follow up, especially since 7 days prior we had mc 707 on the plate, and despite the fact that as mentioned, not a long ago there was silver reissue of Digitakt,Elektron released new model, and yet is still slightly but cheaper than mc 707. You can clearly see that Elektron is simply using well thought/designed/tested code and adapting it on the new hardware, as it should be. However it makes you think why they not going for e.g. more analog ouputs and larger format like before, maybe they gather resources for that who knows. On the end all this equipment we have today on our hands together with amazing quality is amazing, which put us in the times when you have to watch out to not get lost in possibities instead of making music... keep it up @AudioPilz
As ever an informative, fun-filled and entertaining review- though I find your memes go faster than my comprehension speed! When you said that it's a great time to get an old digitakt- I immediately went to Ebay-damn you! I think I'd prefer a second old school digitakt to the new one- I (more or less) know my way round the old one and a second one would enable some serious tracks as well as much better transitions (currently I tend to mute all but the kick, cue the next track then slowly add tracks- though I have the Model:Cycles which I have yet to add to my set up).
Nice I’m glad you got one. You deserve it. We didn’t get the outputs but got everything else. I can’t see why they can’t firmware add that sidechain to mk1 down the road.
