In late 1987 I was sent to Ft. McClellan to teach shooting to Army MP students. Taught 1911s to recruits. Saw Lethal Weapon, and the next year, Die Hard. Because of those movies I got a Beretta. MP schools says "we need to start teaching this new M9 pistol...who do we have to research and teach this?" "That new guy on the weapons committee....I think he has one of those." The brass never really knew my name...they just said "Beretta guy." Didn't mind that. Taught recruits for several years. Quietly moved recruits away from 'tea cup' and 'wrist grip.' M-9 is a good weapon.

I was Army enlisted '88 to '92 but got to run an M9 when my Reserve unit needed a warm body to fill a pistol team spot at the Commander's Match in '94. Qualified expert first day and did well enough on Sunday to earn Leg Points. Begged the First Sergeant to let me take that M9 home because it obviously loved me. We were barely scraping by at the time and I couldn't afford to buy one of my own.

IIRC- the Sentry Guns in Aliens were also 8mm MG-42's, as with the Smartguns. The grenade launchers underslung on the pulse rifles were 870 shotguns (you can tell by the loading port and sections of the bolt that are visible) but fitted with the handguard and forend from a SPAS-12.

Not gonna lie, it's pretty lame they're going to use a Glock 34 for the Punisher. The Punisher pistols have always been some kind of variation of 1911. Now instead of the American Spec Ops Marine using a 1911 (Like Marsoc could do when they original show was made) He's going to be using a dime a dozen Gucci Glock.

As a competitive shooter who works in the movie biz , sometimes the gun handling is just painful to watch on set if they don’t bring in someone to properly train the actors. But it’s not my Dept so I just have to let it go. I’ll offer some advice to Props if they’re designing some Sci-fi or fantasy guns that ergonomically make no sense. On the flip side , thanks to Taran’s work , it’s easier to describe practical shooting to folks by saying, “ You’ve seen John Wick - right ? Competition sorta looks like that “

The “cup and saucer” was the best thinking in the gun world and taught every where for a long time. Military, police, FBI … that’s how people shot. Before that in WWI and WWII they taught a different style. Shooting evolves. Hand positioning. Foot stance. Shoulders square to the target or bladed (which is usually associated with the foot stance shift). 100+ years ago shooting was one handed without any assistance from the other hand. You still see that in Olympic shooting. I think it’s more about learning older/obsolete methods. These things were state of the art at the time, and obviously did work. But, thinking evolved.
@zero11010
@zero11010 18 дней назад
This would be like bad mouthing the “chicken wing” stance they used during Heat. That’s how everyone was taught to shoot a rifle. Military … everyone. Later thinking evolved and now that elbow stays down and low. It’s an example of era. Not really an example of “bad technique”.
@1273312
@1273312 16 дней назад
Agreed 100%. Shooting evolves. The old Bond gun barrel scenes from the 60s and 70s are good examples. The shooting stances & gun control are genuinely humorous by todays standards but at the time (anecdotal evidence incoming) real British SAS operatives apparently taught the stuntmen & actors how to “realistically” and “properly” handle & shoot a firearm at the time for those scenes. Shooting evolves. Big time. Constantly.

The reload in shooter actually looked like a tap rack bang drill. You see him tap the bottom of the mag, then slap the bolt release then pull the charging handle. Not being an expert it would seem like he loaded a fresh mag on an open bolt, hit the bolt release that didn't close all the way and then manually charged the gun. Feels actually like a well done shot.

SS may not be famous for knowing how to fight for real, but shoot guns he sure can. Legendary gunsmith Terry Tussey wrote very highly of his bullseye skills with just about any platform, be it long or handgun. Tussey claims he witnessed Seagal group a whole 1911 mag at 25 yards inside of a one and a half inch circle, to which Seagal replied that he spends a thousnad rounds a day, and when he's out filming he always finds the time to dry fire at least 400 repetitions. Seagal is a legit trigger puller. The article came out on 1/6/1995, Handguns magazine by Paul Hantke. I cannot comprehend why he has to go around embarrassing himself by lying about being the guy who split God in two with his Blu-ray stare when he had a legitimate set of firearms skills very well worthy of sincere admiration. What a direful chicken shit he has made out of himself.

OK Taran has clearly not been in an actual gun store for the past 15 years if he's still calling the Mini-14 a "cheap" alternative to the AR-15. Brother, the Mini-14 is now more expensive than the AR, even in his home state of California. Minis regularly go for over $1100 (more now since the 11% firearms tax went into effect a month ago) while you can get a good AR for below a thousand. In fact, I have the Fall 2024 flyer for Turners Outdoorsman in front of me right now: a Mini-14 is selling for $1050 while both a Fabrique Nationale FN-15 Guardian and a Stag Arms STAG15 rifle are only $950. And there's also an IWI Z-15 rifle for $840. And these are all discounted prices.

2:22 .454 Cassull existed at that time, but it was intended for big game. Most of the energy of a .44 Magnum is wasted on a human enemy. That's why .44 Special is preferred for D-FENS use. 2:34 The only thing I don't like about Clint's style is that he does that "grasp the wrist" thing. Why was that such a popular thing to do in the 1970s?! And actors kept on doing that for decades after that! 3:00 Red Heat is good. Dead Heat is better. Dead Heat stars Treat...Williams, that is. Joe Piscopo too. 6:38 What irks me is when a gun is fired empty before it oughtta be empty. Like, for example, a dude has a standard fixed-tube shotgun (and it typically would be a "dude" but not always) that should hold a total of five standard rounds (four in the tube, one in the chamber), but he only fires two, and it's empty. That means he went into battle knowing that he'd under-supplied his own gun. Usually happens with "henchpersons." 6:51 How is it even possible to screw that up in a scene like that on a movie with that kind of budget?! I like SIGs and Glocks, but that lack of attention to detail is - to borrow a word from Henry Jones, Sr. - "intolerable!" I've seen goofs like that in movies with lower budgets, and it's usually when a gun gets dropped on the ground. It switches to a different gun because guns have "stunt doubles" just like actors, but the prop masters don't always care if it's the same make and model, so they pick something that they figure is "close enough," assuming that the audience won't notice - which is insulting to those of us who have a keen eye for detail. 7:04 That's not how you do a McMillan Tilt. 8:16 Why even bother wearing a helmet?! 🤣 8:38 False. It's select-fire with semi-auto and tri-burst modes. Beretta understood that full-auto is pointless on a machine pistol, so they stuck with "hyper" burst-fire. 8:54 Technically, a Mini-14 (or AC-556?) spliced together with an Ithaca 37. 8:57 False. It's more like a scaled-down M-14, hence the name. There's also the Mini-30 in 7.62x39mm. 8:58 A-Team style with the stock folded into its storage position. 9:20 Thompson M-1A1 spliced together with a super-short Remington 870 with the forearm of a Franchi SPAS-12. They're called "pulse" rifles because their caseless ammo is ignited with an electric pulse. Hicks describes it as being 10mm over 30mm, but it's actually 11.43mm (.45 ACP) over 18.5mm (12-gauge), so it would have been more plausible for the grenade launcher to be 20mm. On screen, 12-gauge could pass for 20mm but not 30mm. 9:26 Try to convince me that those turrets didn't inspire Roland's Scorpio turret and Axton's Sabre turret from the first two Borderlands games.

Actually, the .44 Remington Magnum was usurped at the time by the .454 Casull, even though it wasn't a mass-produced revolver. Just sayin'.

Taran! Don’t you dare putting a Glock 34 on Jon Bernthal’s hands man! That’s just wrong. The Punisher is a 1911 dude and his best version used a Kimber Det 1. Nothing beats a 1911, it’s the ultimate American gun. So don’t!

In John Wick 2 he still would have been better off with more 30 round mags for that AR instead of shifting to a MUCH smaller capacity semi auto shotgun. That was fun specifically for people who want to pretend 3 gun shooting is realistic. But, be real … do you want 7 rounds of shotgun shells with a slow reload … or a couple more 30 round AR mags that reload faster and get the job done just as well. For gun people that was a very silly transition. A second AR with zero spare mags would represent more shots than he took with that shotgun.

It was freaking awesome that it was a clip from Beverly Hills Cop lll which the movie was freaking horrible and the new Cop movie on Netflix was freaking awful Eddie Murphy should go to the gun shooting range with Taran Tacticals to get ready for Beverly Hills Cop V it needs to be with Paramount with a better action director it would be fucking BADASS.

I'm really curious if the shooter reload, was actually a s.p.o.r.t.s. deal. Take the beginning of the movie ole Markie Mark was operating the Barret as a single action because the blanks wouldn't cycle the bolt, and it was stated by the firearm instructor Mark Wahlberg was legitimately just acting like it was a failure to fire and operated it like a professional, (weapons should malfunction a ton more in movies lol) but if you slow it down with the reloading the m-4 it looks like while on the run he may have been full on slap, pull, observe, release, tap squeeze. The fireball hid a lot... regardless, that's enough internet today.... I'm thinking about this way to much jumping up to defend Markie Mark and the funky bunch at this point... Jason Bourne has been either heightened or ruined with his Trans pistol lol.

Yes and no. The early ones are inaccurate and it's difficult to sell them. I had a hard time selling mine for 600 dollars with a lot of magazines. The newer ones are better and more accurate. It's still a waste to buy one though. It can't be easily changed out like a AR.

Especially if you get a Talo exclusive version in stainless, with the gorgeous laminate wood stock (like I did). Not everyone likes the esthetics of the cookie cutter AR platform.

I‘m interested in the content of the video but I honestly can’t take these huge, turquoise, pungent and headache-inducing subtitles. There is a subtitle option on youtube, you know?!
