For most misunderstood characters, I feel like Ussop has got to be up there. People seem really fixated on trying to say he'e regressing. They did it with Dressrosa, I saw a twitter thread a couple days ago about how he told Nami to lie to Ulti about Luffy becoming pirate king, but like with most of those, OP kinda can't read.

Not sure about misunderstood, but one character I think is more underrated than all of them, is Fukaboshi. Literally no one EVER talks about him, yet he's the Wiper/Kyros/etc of the Fishman Island arc. The writing around him is just so brilliant and he acts as an emotional centerpiece of the themes about the cycle of hatred as well as the climax, carrying both the legacy of queen Otohime and the brave new future of the fishmen (Luffy) on his shoulders. At the end of the arc, he has one of the best quotes in the series too, dismissing Hody's racist rambling by telling him to be quiet, as children are listening.
As someone whos been around queer spaces a lot, while there are definitely a lot of trans men that prioritize using binders or getting top surgery theres actually quite a few that couldnt care less about it as well, to some transgender people the concept of "passing" is really just more of a superficial thing that doesn't really hold that much weight to them
Another thing people forget is that when we first meet yamato he is visually presenting as male, a full kimono is flattening his chest and a mask hides his face.
the reason why people thought the wano ending was disappointing/thought the fight wasn't over is because kaido didnt have a proper flashback and didnt use his awakening
The flashback was just not extensive (also we saw him in other character flashbacks), but even then that shouldn’t matter when you could see so much of his characterisation through his monologues/dialogues and what we did end up seeing in the flashback anyways lmao, like people understood whitebeards character when all he had was like 3 panels of a flash back 😭
In retrospect it's pretty obvious Akainu could hurt Ace because he has better Haki. And he didn't reach Luffy because he has at least some Haki. It's pretty good theming if I think about it that way, having been drained of all will Ace uses the little he recovered from being rescued to defend his little brother with no regard for himself.
You said last time something like "If you think Zoro demanding an apology from Ussop was one of his best character moments, you're wrong". Could you elaborate more on that? I'm pretty neutral on that moment.
I'll never get the raid fail argument. Even at the time it was relevant. Like we just came off of whole cake island and luffy ran away. Did we really want BOTH encounters with emperors to be losses? Wouldn't that just be.. lame?
they should have the cover stories as eye catchers or post credit scenes preferably as eye catchers so people who dont watch to the end credits will see it

Yamato is a woman. Clearly one of the most abused little girls in the story, turns out screaming she is The Batman. And the audience screams that the character is trans. Look. Yamato shows the same sexual humility as Luffy does... Which is to say none. Or rather to say, both characters are more focused on their dreams than sex. And their sex life isn't relevant because its not part of the story... Bon Clay? I'll accept Bon-chan any way, because Bon-chan is ride or die Nakama. Emporio Ivankov? One of my favorite characters, presumably trans. These characters have their sexual expression baked into their identity. And I accept them as a whole character, a believable person. Yamato is a kid saying she is Hercules. Its not the same, and its fairly fucking obvious. The reality is Kidao thought so little of his own kid, that he chained her up, beat her, and refuses to acknowledge her womanhood. Instead he wanted her identity to be nothing more than a fixture of war, just like he was made to be! But instead everyone screams trans rights like utter imbeciles.
Its kinda clear as day that Yamato is a woman, the fact that she calls herself a Kozuki Oden is more of an Idol worship that anything. I think even in the tonkobons where we can find extra info about characters her gender is listed as woman in comparison to Kiku that is listed as a man that identifies or acts as woman, dont remember it clearly now
Tankobon is a physical volume. Extra info in those are the sbs. Zero sbs ever call Yamato a woman. You’re likely referring to a databook calling Yamato female but Kiku a woman at heart (her own words, as in it’s just quoting Kiku.) So you’re right that the source exists. However databooks are famously unreliable and aren’t even written by Oda. As for how you could possibly read the manga, the Actual Story, and think it’s “clear as day that Yamato is a woman”, is beyond me. He uses identifiers that are typically used by men, he is regularly called Kaido’s son by many characters including himself and Kaido, he ends the arc bathing in the men’s bath, Luffy calls Yamato a masculine nickname. Yamato is clearly a man.
@@trashiki "it was confirmed through the Vivre Card (One Piece Visual Dictionary) that Yamato was biologically female and referred to as the Oni Princess by Kaido's subordinates." also kaido wanted a son and refused to have a daughter hence the reason he made her wear that outfit that hid her body, and mask to hide her face. even the beast pirates upon seeing yamato take her mask off realized that she was a woman. and the fight she had with kaido when said she was the son of an ONI thats why she couldnt be oden, made her upset because again hes forcing a gender on her and refusing to let her express her self. she is a woman who identifies as a man.
vice cards are the unreliable databooks not written by Oda that I mentioned in my first comment. Also who are you quoting? I don’t know any textual evidence to imply Kaido wanted only a son, doesn’t the term “Oni princess” being used by his troops when Yamato was a kid imply the opposite? Also after Kaido is kaboomed Yamato still calls himself son of Kaido and baths in the men’s bath. If you can name some panel I missed with hard evidence that’d be cool. Your end bit confused me “she is a woman who identifies as a man.” Is that your reading on Kaido’s mindset or is that your own opinion?

Personally I find it very nitpicky. I remember watching about 2 hours of his downfall of one piece where 75% of the two hours was just a waste of my time.

@emperorluffy6001 oda clearly had the IDEA for SOMETHING but it's pretty obvious haki was only actually introduced at sabaody and fleshed out post time skip. Sure the name ezisted and shanks look real scary. But if it was thought out back at the start of the story. It would be so inconsistent
@@jazzburrell8870 Not really. Thats something westerners think. If you understand the eastern perspective of Ki/Chi then it becomes clear Haki was always going to be part of the series. People have just invented the headcanon of "Oda made it up along the way" because they don't actually know how it works. So they just assume Oda doesn't either. And Haki was actually named dropped as far back as Jaya if you read the Japanese version.
@@trashiki If we look at how Oda handles his characters there's a difference between how he treats Kiku and how he treats Yamato. Kiku is definitively a woman at heart, everything points to this clearly. However, Oda treats Yamato more like he treats Bon Clay and Ivankov who are genderfluid characters.

@@trashikiI personally have always interpreted the yamato situation in a slightly different way that I think makes a lot more sense to the way the character is written: I feel Yamato is a women, doesn't necessarily want to change his body parts and if given the opportunity, would likely not become a man (like using ivankov or something) unless it made him feel more like oden. Yamato isnt transgender, they are transidentity, which is something I just made up, but it applies heavily to yamatos situation. Yamato doesn't want to be a man to be looked at stronger or because he feels like a man or any other normal transgender reason, but rather because he wants to be Oden and Oden was not a women. Its really that simple the way I see it. Kiku is transgender and was a man who wants to be a women and feels like a women at heart and therefore is a women. Yamato is a transgender who doesn't necessarily feel like a man at heart, he may, but it was never stated, he instead simply wishes to live like Oden which includes living like a man. If oden was a women, yamato would not be transgender, kiku would always have ended up trangender (if allowed to act freely)

Yamato fighting greenbull, so the very end of Wano says he is “the son of Kaido” If that’s not a clear cut line showing he identifies as both Yamato and a man I don’t know what does. It’s fine if you don’t wanna watch, like all people this channel has bias, but the Yamato reading is based on the objective text of the manga.
