what are you going to do to be able to wrap front and rear bumper if the clear coat is coming off? Sand it down? does this mean, for this particular car, that the warranty is off? is the client getting a re wrap for free? what happens with 3M if they find out the wrap was not defective and it was faulty paint job after all? Wow this video brought way more questions than answers. Great work. Really appreciate you sharing this info.
You would firstly let the customer know about the lacquer issue, and get permission from them to sand the problem areas down, you can still warrant the full wrap, but won't guarantee that the paint will be fine after taking the wrap off, however if the claim is because of the lacquer on the bumper, then you could refuse the warranty claim however you should consider you option on a case by case basis, if a situation like this happens you could just charge material cost only. CK Wrap is rewrapping this car for free because the failure as happened and the colour is now unavailable so next best thing is to re wrap the all car, personly i think thats excellent service . 3M wont do anything if its becasuee of bad paint and got nothing to do with the material, however 3m isnt the best to deal with when making material warranty claims, i persoanlly wouldnt even bother contacting 3m. The material on this video is actually vvivid and not 3m
Happened to me recently wrapping a satin white Bentley :-O Came off in large pieces..sucks but it isnt the wrappers fault. Paint looked fine before wrapping, I.M.O its when its painted and not baked or bad prep. My advise is to have a disclaimer before taking on any job
Didnt answer much in the video like what's the most cost effective solution for prepping a peeling panel for wrap? Could it continue to peel while the wrap is installed and what does that look like? What are the specific steps to getting it smooth and able to be wrapped?
My paint is in a similar condition to the car in the video. When sanding down, is it a case of leaving it once smooth? Or is it worth ehating with some clearcoat? Would it make a difference to the texture/finish in that area?
So it seems that it's NOT that you can't wrap if there is some clear coat peeling but more for the removal of the wrap as it will take the clear coat and potentially paint with it? My question is... how does the Vinyl adhere to a part of the body work if there is clear peel?
The can't part comes in when you try to reposition the film and it lifts. The piece of vinyl is now ruined and has to be trashed. $$$$ Not worth it. Worse, it could lift after a period of time and you end up with bubbles or letting go near the edges, aka ruined vinyl. Also $$$$ Not worth it.
I messed up on some clearcoat. Some is smooth but in some areas the clear became rough from it drying to fast when spraying. It feels like 240 grit sandpaper. Is this wrappable? Could I wet sand it down to 600grit and then wrap? Or does it have to be like 3000 grit to wrap?
Just get it smooth I have been wrapping for 7years and it just needs to be smooth if not it shows whatever is underneath it. If that is helpful at all. So whatever sandpaper it smooth it out and feather it down flush
@@ThatWrapperDude sorry dude I know this is 2 years old but I’m desperate lol. My car has been keyed pretty deep down to the primer I’d say. How would I go about prepping this to wrap it? I’m gutted and just want this scratch covered lol!
so I have a infiniti G37 sport coupe that has factory paint on it and I want to wrap it myself. I have paint chips and a little bit of damage on the rear bumper. I would have to have these things fix in order to wrap it and have a flush finish correct?
I got a reply about this question. I was told that damage such a dents would have to be repaired but paint chips should be covered up well by vinyl. However, if you do want a complete finish fixing all damage will be the best option.
Some asked this question and im not sure it was answered. If you wrap over peeled clear coat like that does it show through the wrap? Like if you dont care what happens to the clear coat, could the wrap stay on for a little while till you get it painted?
My gfs genesis has the same problem with the clear flaking off on the bumpers and side skirts. Basically the non metal panels have an issue with the paint. It’s never been re-painted. It’s a common manufacturer problem for these models.
I just finished my first wrap and that is exactly what happened to me. The paint came off when I re positioned the wrap. It ended up looking like an air bubble in the wrap but it was actually air between the roof and the paint on the wrap. Cost me the price of extra vinyl to wrap the roof again. A learning experience. Always enjoy your vids :)
So from bits of what you said if the clear is peeling and you rub it back to where it isn't peeling you can wrap it? Don't care about ripping more off when the wrap is removed or warranty as the paint is already screwed, would just like to have a shot at wrapping it.
So basically the advice seems to be not to waste money and effort on respraying if you are ever considering wrap or dip coverings because you will more likely damage both than protect a standard non-OEM paint job.
If the non oem paint job is a good paint job and the painter does their part then it most likely won't be a problem. But it's a catch 22, I can't warranty the wrap adhering to the bumper if it's not painted. BUT, if the paint gives out and causes the vinyl to lift then I also can't warranty that as well
@@CKWraps I think I would just say there is no warranty on vinyl/rubber bumpers period. Maybe give a discount if they are repeat customer and just want it fixed. Just be up front about it and explain why and I think most customers will understand. There are always those that will casually forget that it was mentioned as 'no warranty' but that's life. Put it in the original contract as well as a CYA.
I'm wanting to try wrapping my SUV but the hood needs to be painted first. How much time/days should I let the paint the cure before wrapping?? I'm an auto painter and I know in some instances it can take months for a "full" cure out.
Wrong question. You are talking about a repainted car that has a poor clear coat. My car is twenty years old and the clearcoat has come off in only the areas exposed by sun. The areas with no sun exposure when parked has great paint/clear coat. I need to just have a body shop feather out the areas where the edge is where it has fallen off. The questions I have are: 1. You stated that wrap does NOT stick as well to areas that are sanded with no clear coat. Does the bare sanded paint need a special sealer for wrapping? 2. I have a fiberglass shell. The clear coat is all gone on it and it is just gel coat. Does wrap stick to sanded fiberglass/gel coat? 3. Do you recommend spraying clear coat on sanded surfaces for a better adhesion? Also, I just noticed that you don’t answer any questions so why am I wasting time on here??? You want idiots to pay you for an answer. I will ask some other wrapper who is not as greedy and actually answers questions!
Thats why i wouldnt do a rap , that makes me nervous , who knows if that shit will wreck your paint , On a 100k audi s6 nooooo way. Its a mirror already ill keep the phantom black.😊
My roof of my BMW 535i was ruined by a roof wrap. Before I bought the car, the roof was wrapped, but removed before I bought it. A few weeks of owning the car I started noticing wierd testure on the clear coat. I tried having it wet sanded but it never was right again.
Hey everyone hope you all ok, looking for advise how to praper damaged dumper with stone chips, how you wrap over it? Done sanding do i need to do filling and apply wrap on it? Becouse i found some information that wrap do not stick on the filling, how you doing? Do i need spray something on the filling( primer or clear coat)? Thank for informacion.
I think more specifically my question was... Is vinyl wrap an alternative to painting and already flaking and crusty terrible looking paint job on a car?
Is this due to low quality clear coat and poor application by the bodyshop or just a product of any aftermarket paint job? I mean can you use top quality 2K clear coat, baked well with well painted edges and not get clear coat lift with wraps, or at least lessen the chances a lot more? Thanks!
TrimmzOG no. The smallest crease will allow air to be trapped and will lift. Major failure will come after it. And don’t try and just go over it to hide it. It will look even worse.
Great video im glad its from u i posted on previous video im having same issue so i should use duct tape to rip off loose clearcoat i wanted to go chrome red but that is too hard to work with being novice and i wanna use soap water so it makes it easier to install
I hate when people think wrap is the new paint! If your paint is damaged wrapping wont fix it!! Damged paint only brings headaches to vinyl installers!
