Alright so my theory about the lore of this game is: Ron is mentally ill/disabled (since I'm pretty sure getting meds for hallucinations would need a doctor's prescription) and his parents don't know how to raise a child with special needs. His father develops alcoholism and act out on his abusive tendencies, while his mom cheats on her husband and stays at work late to avoid confronting the harsh reality of her life, ending up neglecting her son. Ron's dad has moments of being nice and bought a present for Ron, a doll that looks similar to him. The mom is sick of being abused and demands a divorce, but in the heat of emotions doesn't think of taking Ron with her, assuming the dad will leave or drink until he's unconcious. The dad blames Ron and his special needs for the whole home situation and snaps his neck and hides him in the closet after getting drunk. Ron sees his dad as a good person, and mr. Red Face as the evil doer who pretends to be good, who is trying to destroy his family, even though his dad *is* mr. Red Face. Abusers often blame their evil doings and abuse on something else - alcohol, the victim triggering a "part of them they cannot control" etc. Or, victims suffer from abusive codependency, and make up excuses for their abusers. This seems to be the case for Ron. Ron also sees his suffering, his special needs and the 'him' that is aware of his death and abuse as a doll he was given by mr. Red Face. Doll might be how Ron coped with the trauma and abuse, and later with his death - Childern play out what happened to them (Doll getting beaten up for trying to help his dad, doll only existing because mr. Red Face created him for Ron) or saw (Ron seeing doll drink the alcohol, even tho doll can't drink) to understand it better/cope. After Ron's dad realised what he did he ran away and hid at a motel. I think since the mom doesn't think of the doll as a real thing, the doll got destroyed by the dad when he was in a drunk rage or something. Ron cannot accept his death. He makes up stories, such as, his dad and red face being different people, to repress the knowledge of what happened. He imagines his beloved doll being there with him, helping him out. Doll is the knowing part of Ron because Ron played out his trauma through the doll. Ron's conscious wanted him to accept what happened, move on. That's why he is led to the closet, the place he died in that was basically his 'portal' to the afterlife. The cat says there are many Bruces. "Bruce" sounds like "bruise" doesn't it? Many children were harmed by their parents. There are many bad Bruces. The cat keeps an eye on everyone, it's basically a guardian of the afterlife of abused children. Ron's spirit traumatizes the dad further, and manages to give mom the motel ticket to help her find Bruce, after she realised what happened. Poor Ron still doesn't understand though. When doll's master "took away" Ron's parents, it's Ron blaming everything on alcohol, and not the person who let the alcohol control his life, not the person who didn't help him when he needed her. When Ron destroys mr. Red Face, he destroys the image of his dad that he made up in his mind. We see him realise his dad *is* his abuser. When doll started disappearing, it was because Ron started panicking and wanting to further surpress the knowledge away, but he eventually accepted his fate, helped his mom find Bruce, and moved on, to live a peaceful afterlife with other children who died because of bad parenting. One child was burned alive, the ither was buried, the other was in a truck, either kidnapped or was closed there after getting killed or as punishment. Ron opening the closet is the same as him accepting what happened. He accepted that he is dead, after his abuser killed him. The children chilling around the fire together shows that they're all victims, that managed to move on and make light of their situation together.
