Don't get me started on modern vehicle designs. Turn signals next to (or in) other lights. Over-bright headlights. Headlights that look blue from the side. Unreadable instruments. Electric handbrakes. Unusable interfaces. 4 different cruise control modes, each incomplete.

Was behind one the other morning can't recall the make signalling left which was clear but when they hit the brakes the signal was drowned out by the red brake light. The indicator was a semi circle and the brake light was a red circle inside that which was way too bright.

Insurers should set up a reporting base, paid for by all participants. Staff could go through channels such as this and identify vehicles queue jumping, red lights etc. Then, the driver's insurers get notified who can then increase the premium according to the offence. There is no need to identify the driver as it is not a prosecution and there could be no appeal. That would increase premiums for dodgy drivers and perhaps bring down premiums for the law-abiding ones.

Sounds interesting…. If the driver isn’t identified, what happens when the vehicle gets sold and the new owner goes to insure the vehicle only to find it will cost 10 times what is should because of the previous owner? 🤔

Nothing, because the insurer should only increase the premium of the currently insured policyholder. They check the video and write a letter to the policyholder telling him that his premiums will rise and why. That is then passed to all other companies. It is not necessary to identify the actual driver. If he doesn't like the fact that he is getting screwed by the person he let drive his car then don't lend it out. As this is a policy decision and not prosecuted they can do what they want.@@smilerbob

The Merc with the bikes is 100% illegal as the number plate must be visible or another attached to the bikes. It is also illegal to be towing something with a numberplate that doesn't match the vehicle.

The van with no lights on may have Daylight Running Lights on the front. A couple of years ago I was following a Mini along a dual carriageway, and there were no rear lights on. When I overtook, in my mirror i could see that it had really bright DRLs, which presumably gave enough light that the driver though that she had headlights on. My cars both have auto lights, which means that the lights are on when required, the only thing that catches them out is daylight fog.

@@Shortyplayz The modern trend of digital displays or illuminating the dash at all times doesn't help. With conventional instruments and only illuminating the dash when the lights were on, you knew if you'd forgotten the lights as soon as you looked at your speedo and couldn't see it.

On a restricted road in GB, you only need side lights during hours of darkness. You need headlights in Northern Ireland. Strange.

Rear number plate obstructed or dirty(unreadable) is an offence. There is spray & transparent covers you could get on the interweb that stops cameras reading plates, but to the naked eye they read ok, again illegal.

Correct. VRMs or Vehicle Registration Marks must be clearly legible. Strangest its an offence according to Vehicle Licensing, rather than construction and use.

To avoid lights not turning on in the night or dark, I usually put it on Auto so that it turns on whenever it dark. Save lives as well when u drive in the rain where visibility is shit

A word of warning Tony at 1:55. Its very dangerous to give a signal to another car to let them know that you are letting them cross in front of you. If that car was to have a collision due to a hazard that you could not see then you could be held partly culpable for that collision. You were quite close to the car and he cut the corner as a result as you were still moving towards him. You also could not see down the road into which he was turning and there may have been an obstruction that you weren't aware of. The safest thing to do, if you wish to let him pass, is to hold well back and so your positioning gives him the signal that you are permitting to go across you. The driver then has ultimate responsibility as to whether it's safe to cross and if they see any danger then they may wave you on. And holding well back means they are not pressured into cutting the corner.

Re nighttime lights, I was told (when I was learning), accelerate up to 4th or 3rd depending on conditions and glance check the speedo. If you can't see your speed then you NEED LIGHTS ON! I still do it 45 years later

Reason why I walk in the road with my walker is to pass cars and other motor vehicles parked right cross the pavement, I also walked in the road when there rotting leaves on the pavement because I feel unsafe to walked over leaves with my walker because of health problems I got. What also makes me angry is people keep parking over dropped kerbs making it difficult to cross the road or I have to walk in the road so I can get across it, for example I cross at one dropped kerb and then a motor vehicle decided to park over the opposite side resulting in me walking the road to find a driveway so I can cross the road

I tried making a similar point before about safety of the pavements yet some people just don’t seem to understand and believe all pedestrians must be on the pavement whenthe truth is, pedestrians can be where they feel safest…even if that is on the road 👍 Take care out there

Best one I've seen in my 35 years driving is someone hesitant at a roundabout to pull out with a long queue building up behind, at just the opportune moment she pulls off and stalls the car, she then proceeds to get out and shout at the bloke in the car behind thinking the jolt of stalling the car was him hitting her, really couldn't make it up.

That M25 stuff used to happen to me on theM5 Whether or not they are deliberately queue jumping or have just got it wrong by mistake is immaterial to the remedy which is to let them in if at all possible - not to do so is very dangerous. I used to leave a gap to allow them to do so which probably irritated the guy behind me but meh...

Exactly. I have always left double the stopping distance in heavier traffic so people can change lanes without me needing to brake which causes the ripple effect slow down behind me. Then if traffic stops while I approaching a slip road I leave a car sized gap for those that need to merge over. Much, much safer than having the “I’m not letting them in, effing queue jumpers” attitude and keeps everything flowing better

Agree, the blockers are as bad as the jumpers. But I did notice on the clip that the closer to the slip road the bigger the gaps between the vehicles. so it must be very very tempting to jump knowing that you will be able to move over safely.@@smilerbob

To be fair to the cyclist at the start, I could tell they were turning left by that fact they stopped pedalling, were slowing down and gently moved out to the right slightly. I have no issue with cyclists not signalling as they can keep better control of the bike with two hands on the handlebars, especially in poor conditions

Spot on. Generally, cars need indicators because they're usually in the same position in the lane and you can't see the driver. With cyclists and pedestrians, you can get a really good idea of their intentions by observing body language and position on the road. I would also add, this cyclist contravened the highway code a couple of times. They failed to adhere to Rule 72 by not adopting a central position in the lane through the narrowing at the island and when approaching the junction. They also took that turn extremely gingerly and were hugging the gutter, so I would say not the most confident rider.

Yup .. no indication or even a look behind.. they just sail across the road without a care in the world .. same with the silly twats that are on the pavement side roads and just merrily sail onto the road without bothering to check..

@kittyhawk9707 Just because you don’t like cyclists and think that every one of them should be banned from the road doesn’t mean the rest of us don’t know how to share with them. Even without looking you can tell if they are going to turn right or not, as mentioned above from someone else, by looking at the body language. As for those cycling across junctions, you should already be slowing and being cautious when turning into a junction especially if there are more vulnerable road users around If you are talking about them just hopping off the pavement in front, try giving them a bit of room and slowing as you pass even if they are on the pavement. That way if they do hop off there is space for them and you can slow down some more if necessary It isn’t hard to share, get along and keep everyone safe. Then again, you need to start with an attitude that wants to keep everyone safe and not thinking everything should be for cars only

Exactly, you can tell from the video, what her intentions are. You can also tell that she's nervous and doesn't want to take 1 hand off the handle bar to indicate, especially in wet conditions. Those who only drive a car simply don't understand how unstable it can be taking a corner in wet conditions, let alone taking 1 hand off the bar to indicate.

My 2016 Skoda Superb doesn't have dash light on until you turn on headlights and even on park lights it's still not lit up.... Great video and I see these poor driving standards every day. Lack of indicator use is so frustrating as we ain't mind readers and yes phone use seems like it's getting worse.....

2:45 It's not legal here, in Australia. When a bike rack is used, a bike rack number plate must be purchased & fitted to the outside of the rack. You may also need to consider lighting issues.

At 11.45 the white van didn’t get flashed by oncoming traffic to make the driver aware he had no lights on, probably because it was his taillights that were blown and the lights on the front were fine. Just a thought.

Traffic lights commonly detect vehicles using digital sensors mounted on the lights themselves, or through an inductive loop embedded in the surface of the road. Both methods allow the traffic system to keep tabs on stopped vehicles occupying the intersection and help traffic to flow smoothly..

Nobody flashing the van for no lights is probably because the van has big, bright DRLs on so the driver thinks he has headlights on, people coming the other direction think the same but the rear is as dull as a conversation with Buzz Killington while playing a game of Ultimate Buzz-Kill Edit: DRLs aren't always easy to pick up from a side view

DRLs are supposed to be a safety feature but you now get so many more people driving without any rear lights on, and if you flash them from behind they often think you're being agressive or something instead of trying to help them out. It would make more sense if cars lights automatically turned on when you have your windscreen wipers on for more than 10 seconds.

My first accident back around '72 was not helped by the other not having any lights after dark on foggy evening. Both my passengers confirmed they weren't on plus the driver was seen going back to the car to switch them on but unfortunately no independent witnesses.

Sorry Tony, but I disagree with you on the M25 interchange...I believe they all know where they need to be to take that exit but they are too entitled to sit in the queue. They are queue jumpers, plain and simple. On the van with his headlights off...I generally keep my headlights turned to auto so I don't think about them. One night after work, I was driving in the parking lot and couldn't figure out why my dashboard was so bright - after cataract surgery my eyes are very light-sensitive - I had, for some reason, turned my headlights off the auto position and they weren't on. I quickly remedied the situation, but I had driven about 20 feet. I admit, I prefer the dashboard staying dark until my headlights are on - definitely a huge clue! I like the daytime running lights for safety, but they may deceive some people into thinking they have their lights on.

On the second clip where you're turning right, it looks like it says "Buses only" on the ground although it is terribly worn off. The lane looks like it also used to be red too. I'm just wondering if it in fact says the name of a place, any not "Buses Only". I'm not having a pop, I'm just curious as I don't know the area. Still a great video.

I had two of them, and yes can that night panel button was nice for long motorway drives as less distraction from inside the cabin, I do miss my Saabs, great cars to drive, shame in regards what happened to them back in 2012.... I possibly would have one now instead of my Kuga if they were still being made... I dont have the time for old cars really, too much to keep in maintaining them. my 9-5 hot aero required an oil change every 2k-3k miles.... but that's another story!

@@jjharson7344 My 2006 9-3 passed MOT on first go last March, with a couple of advisories (now fixed - usual suspects - brakes & tyres), and I had to get a new clutch fitted, but all W&T items. Apart from that, she runs like a dream. Waiting for the weather for top down driving again :)

My car got hit by a golf ball up Epsom Downs a few years, so it does happen P. S I drive an Audi but I don't drive like they do I give way I'll give people space I like to keep away from other cars because you just never know what they're gonna do. People Just Cause themselves so much hassle by trying to push in all the time or try to get past in the traffic.

Mine got hit by a ball coming from West Hill Golf Club a couple of years back, captured on dashcam. They claimed it couldn't have come from the course despite the evidence and must have been 'flicked up' by the car in front. Pointing out that this was extremely unlikely and if it had happened how did the ball end up on the road if not from the course got me nowhere.

Bikes on the back be afraid, be very afraid, they drive the same way as they ride! Number Plates must be clearly visible front and rear, that's why we have them. They should get pulled for that, but there's never anybody to see it. I see people overtake turning vehicles all the time, they don't care that I have to stop and wait. Or that me and dozens of other motorists are stuck there for hours while the carnage is cleared up so the road can reopen.

With business and phone number on many vehicles the public could start calling to complain about their unsafe, dangerous, driving employee? Sure after enough calls to enough business, things might change?

I'm a bit confused about two things, one is general and the other is regarding the van. I have a 13 year old Ford, even at that age it has Bluetooth connectivity for my phone. Why do people insist on having phones in their hands? It can read messages etc to you. The second things, don't most modern vehicles have automatic lights that turn on when it gets dark? I may be mistaken on that. Thanks for all the great videos!

Automatic headlights needs to be activated by setting the headlight control switch to the correct position on most vehicles. The biggest issue other than bright DRLs making it look like the lights are on is when someone else drives the vehicle and turns the headlights off then the usual driver forgets to check. One reason I dislike automated systems in vehicles as it takes required, basic knowledge away from the driver…such as turning the lights on

My old 07 plate Citroen C4 used to have lights which came on when the sensor deemed it was appropriate .. even in Rain / dull conditions .. Cool system .. My current 08 plate Astra hasn't got that system ..

I have a vague recollection as a child that the rear number, whenever my grandad took us out with bikes, he hung just a piece of white wood, secured obviously, off the back to show his plate, he never wanted to spend the money for a proper plate, but had a white 2x4 or whatever in black capitals with his reg, don't see that often anymore as if police do see it, they say it's dangerous and not confirming I think. But yeah I reckon you could technically go on your merry way with bikes attached every day and feign ignorance until pulled over then play dumb for a first offence? Surely if they did fine you it's going to be cheaper than Ulez every day if you drove into the city? I don't live in London so don't know the fees.

Hi there. i know the area your traveling round and find it interesting getting another persons view of things. Us to be Volvo drivers that were prdictable... ( spelling usseless sorry)... Theres only one thing id like to mention. Being curtiouse to othere. Great when people flash their lightss to thank you. A feel good moment. But please be very carefull not to motion somemone to let them know your giving way for them to turn etc..... People have been prosicuted as they instigated an incident. If they just gave a gap and left it to the other driver or pedestian to take that choice, then let them. Im not being offencive hera. Its just been taken that they have been given an all clear rather than ... "im ok to let you go but do normal checks"..... Hope this makes snnse.. Not funny but did smile at the lady in mini saying thank you with her phone in her hand.

Really, BMW lights don't turn off anymore. there is no off, start the car lights on even in summer!!, crazy, been like for a decade now.

I do love this videos and I do lots of driving we should team up! as get just as annoyed, however I do like to point out when (even tho agree ) you are wrong according to the highway code (not that the driver ever has read it lol ) white van 12.00 he not breaking any rules (that's how bad our highway code is!) "use must use headlights at night, except on a road which has lit street lighting. These roads are generally restricted to a speed limit of 30 mph (48 km/h), or 20mph (32km/h) in Wales, unless otherwise specified" Code 113. My other bug bear on UK roads with lights is that there are a lot of muppets that as soon as it rains put their fog lights on! because they have listened to some idiot who has mentioned you should now use them in the rain, while actually not reading the rule or understanding it!!!! give me a Like for all the idiots you see on the motorways still able to drive 70mph or more but have put fog lights on as some rain!!!!!! fxxx witts. this is the rule Use fog lights only when visibility is seriously reduced and below 100 metres (328 feet). if visibility was that bad trust me you would only be doing over 50mph if you were a serious knob head!

About an hour ago I was driving home from London, I saw a guy fall asleep in his van in the middle lane. Traffic was moving very slow, but he just stopped and didnt move as the traffic moved on, I slowly drove past and saw him slumped up at the wheel lol a bit later my lane was at a dead stop and he caught up lol

In Great Britain, in a restricted road during the hours of darkness....or rather the lighting up times.....you only need side lights as a legal requirement. In Northern Ireland, you require headlights to be on.

@@geordiewishart1683 what is legal and not legal is not really the point . Vehicle lights are more about 'being seen' than actually seeing --- it's possible to drive all night without any lights . I often ask ; what is the psychology of one putting one's hand on the light switch to turn it just one click , when it's just as easy to go two clicks ; sort of set and forget and being seen by others . Having head lights on comes under my road rule of "common sense" hence driving with only the parking on is just plain dumb imo . My other driving rules are "patience" , and "respect/consideration" to all others on the road. Have served me well with lots of ''more arse than class'' for 50+ years ; including driving Australian trucks and road trains .

7:20 I'll tell you what - I tried to report a super dangerous driver with HD dashcam front and back video. The police sent me a letter back saying, ''you need an independent witness to be inside the car''. So I should pickup someone random before I take off anywhere to make a valid report. Thanks police.

:The London Dash Cam. One of the reasons why the Police may not have contacted you is probably because, after seeing the video footage the perpetrators have pleaded guilty in Court, so in that case you would not have been needed to give evidence. So don`t give up on reporting the ass-holes.

Your speeding cams work from the back, ok thats odd. In Germany its front only as you have to identitfy the driver. The owner (eh we have a difference here who owns and regularily uses the car) could say "wasnt me" if not identfied properly and no charges would be pressed. Thus, if someone would steal your car and drive through a ton of cams, you would have to pay them all? Sounds weird...

In Britain the owner must say who was driving. There are penalties for non-declarations and false declarations.

@@neuralwarp Not all dual carriageways are clearways. The B2070 for example. The prohibition of stopping on a motorways is covered by different legislation than clearways and is much stricter. For example taxis are allowed to stop on (non-red) clearways but not motorways.

I would say it is essential for cyclists to give a signal for turning right but as Tony said, it made absolutely no difference to him so why on earth is he making a point about it. Quite pointless from Tony. Giving signals by any road user is under rule 103 of Highway Code and it is a 'should' and not a 'MUST' and is therefore not breaking a road traffic law if you don't do it.

Don't get me wrong, a lot of it is, but some stuff is just filler content. Kind of rude to put those people's faces and license plates on the internet for no real reason other than to get to your precious 10 minutes.

Everyone in the comments knew where the cyclist was going Kitty except you for some reason, even the driver in the video knew despite his fake annoyance for views and mild giggles. There was no issue here and if everyone just slows down a bit we can all get to where we are going safer and more relaxed. Might even have less traffic jams as well Why do you dislike cyclists so much?

Forgot to tell you I saw a Video you SHOULD watch. Unfortunately it was in a Compilation and I don't remember the Name of it. A Man get's into a Taxi with a Female Driver. After a few seconds she does something unusual then tells the Man She is sorry, she has Tourette's. The Man says Really, so do I. It is Hysterical to watch from that point, though I think the Man was kidding. Found it. It's called, 'Another funny video from Jenna the Uber driver that has Tourettes'. It's the one with the Man wearing a White Beard.

love your videos and the commentery is fo die for sometimes, with the van and nl lights nower days drivers are not encorage to flash headlights to let the offending driver to be aware, is that some drivers can become angry and may want to cause a row, i know some police forces do not encourage for that reason keep up the good work 👍👍

Bike riders are a danger when not signalling on my bike i have indicators on the front and back and a brake light on the back and you have a little control panel attached to the handle bars so easy ,cheap and makes me alot safer

While there aren't any specific laws for carrying bikes on your car and bike racks, you should make sure that you're not breaking any general driving laws. Make sure that the bike is not protruding out of the car.
