50/50 on the learner at the start. I don't think s/he could see you fully due to the parked cars. While they did pull out, they did do it slowly without just pulling out without looking. When they saw you coming, as already committed they sped up to get out of your way as quickly and as safely as possible. That's my thought anyway
@scienceexperimentsforhomee261
@scienceexperimentsforhomee261 6 месяцев назад
I completely agree with you. In fact I would say 0% on the learner and 100% LDC getting it wrong. LDC had ample opportunity to reduce speed and give the learner the time to pull out completely. No wonder that the instructor was pulling a face as he witnessed LDC having complete disregard for the Highway Code preamble to general rules 103-158 "This section should be read by all drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists and horse riders. The rules in The Highway Code do not give you the right of way in any circumstance, but they advise you when you should give way to others. Always give way if it can help to avoid an incident." This thing that LDC has about "you shouldn't have pulled out if I have to slow down" is just nonsense and the nonsense is shown up by the Highway Code that I just quoted. It's another case of LDC being intolerant of other road users.

@@scienceexperimentsforhomee261 I do not agree, if you watch it carefully, they pull out when out of sight, agreed, but within 2 feet of pulling out they will see that they are pulling out infront of traffic so they should stop, not just blindly carry on pulling out. If they had stopped 2 feet over the line the traffic could continue to flow and they could pull out when the road is clearer.
@scienceexperimentsforhomee261
@scienceexperimentsforhomee261 6 месяцев назад
@geoffuk8356 No! Because LDC was quite a distance from the junction as the learner pulled out then due to the line of sight angle with the parked cars, the learner had to be within LDC's path to be able to see LDC. There was absolutely no point in the learner then stopping or reversing as the instructor would have assessed that at that distance, a competent driver would have been able to reduce their speed to avoid an incident. LDC shows himself not to be competent and did not sufficiently adjust his speed. The instructor was quite within his right to give a hard stare!!

1st one - what speed were you doing? It was a 20 limit and it may have been safe when the instructor said "go". If you were going over 20, or the learner was too hesitant could cause this to happen. Also they did pull out rather slowly - pulling out at a normal speed would have been fine.. 2nd one - riding slowly on a bridleway is not a problem; on the road, yes. 3rd one - agreed 👍 The Highway Code clearly says you should never reverse onto a main road and that you should reverse in and drive out. Reversing out is downright dangerous! Learner on the A3 - looks like the learner was a middle lane charlie and the instructor told him he was an idiot when he moved out and he went back in again. Pushed car - it's an old Volvo. 7' barrier - no problem with that - it's to stop large vehicles on the Kingston by-pass entering a residential area and there is no other place to put it. The driver of a large vehicle will see it straight away and stay on the roundabout - if it was further along the large vehicle would be off the roundabout and stuck and would then have to reverse back ontoi the roundabouit. It's actually in the best polace it could be. Totally disagree with you on this one.

I live in South Africa we drive on the left and have roundabouts with the same rules, but for some unknown reason a good 75% of drivers will indicate right when leaving the roundabout at their exit, it is extremely irritating as you never know if they are coming round in front of you or turning off the roundabout, it is so prevalent they must be being taught this. its not even logical

I had the same view as yours regarding being forced to slow down by emerging cars, but I have been told I am wrong. I was taught to drive in 1980 and indeed it was the case that you shouldn't pull out in front of someone if they then have to slow down. But a few years ago when I was working with a qualified instructor he told me it had changed due to the amount of traffic. He said it changed a car would never be able to emerge if it had to wait for a fully clear gap, and this is probably most true in London and the other major cities.
@scienceexperimentsforhomee261

I think it was always there. The approach by LDC flies in the face of the Highway Code preamble to general rules 103-158 which says "The rules in The Highway Code do not give you the right of way in any circumstance, but they advise you when you should give way to others. Always give way if it can help to avoid an incident." His mantra of "they shouldn't emerge if I have to slow down' is quite wrong and is a terribly selfish attitude.

I'm 95% with you with the jockey on the phone, they were crossing the road at the right time & looking around, he wasn't just looking at the phone the whole time. The jockey was wrong, but at least he tried! The bit with the VW at the Asda light, there is a very badly marked turn in lane to the rear of the shop for deliveries, that is where he got confused! It does need repainting. He was wrong. I'm with you on drivers that "suddenly" want an exit from a motorway or dual carriage way. They are f-ing sign posted from a mile away!!!! Get in the right lane for the road you want!!! I will admit on my bike if I'm some where new for me I have gotten in the wrong lane, but I will hold my left hand up for a few seconds when I can to acknowledge drivers behind that I have made a mistake & thank you for letting me across. The learner on the A3, perhaps he was overtaking other Kia Invisables like yours!!!!! The petrolhead moment is you passing a Ford GT40, the car that was in the film Ford vs Ferrari with Christian Bale & Matt Damon. The broken down car is a Volvo 121 from 1960s. Just so you know, I'm a rare one for being a motorbike rider I do think of what damage a car can do to me and/or my bike if I hit it or it hits me.

Since all the clips of learners showed school markers even on a test the examiner should know how to use the dual controls but as you say the standard of instructors is rock bottom both my normal and advanced instructors would be spinning in their graves. Whilst getting ready to go out I had my large vehicle parked on my top hardstand facing the road a school of motoring vehicle pulled across the road parked facing the wrong way outside my neighbours then proceeded to reverse across our driveways the expression on the instructors face was priceless when he noticed (A) my daylight running lights were on (B) the nudge bar it's a working vehicle. Being from an old fashioned police family I was taught Mirror signal manoeuvre plus a young police friend said if you don't indicate and cause an accident due care, one thing I never believe an indicator until I physically seee them turn a young colleague found that the hard way when she believed a elderly gentleman was turning he didn't cancel after his last manoeuvre so went straight into the driver's side. The numpty in the mini oh my god even if they went in forward there looked like loads of space to turn around (if i couldn't turn a vehicle that size around in that space would return my licence to the DVLA) on the hardstand, sadly I haven't got the space so reverse in to a very tight drive (6.5ft wide vehicle 6.7ft gap) normally a simple manoeuvre but it doesn't help when idiots cut across the front of the vehicle just as I line up between the posts. Those speed humps are shallow so if you are traveling at a safe speed no problem I get frustrated when people are driving slowly but just as they get to the speed hump suddenly brake for no reason

Very often when I pull over to the side and commence backing in, the car behind me will come screaming up so fast and stop so close that I can't complete the turn in. Then there's a lot of beeping and gesticulating, especially if the other side of the road is also jam packed so the screamer behind me can't go around. Still, backing in is better than backing out in my opinion.

But why would the learner move into the 2nd lane on the motorway?? .. Twice .. with nothing to overtake

@@thelondondashcam I past my test in June 2023. Been on the motorway twice only for half an hour each time with my instructor.The first time was a shock because it was rush hour so lots of traffic n almost witnessed 2 crashes. Second time was better cos there was less traffic. Planning on driving to Rhyl with my husband and boys in may so it will be my first time properly on the motorway it’s my goal for the year.

The learner did exactly the right thing and any faster would have been careless driving. The car had to pull out just to see if it was clear left or right due to the parked cars. The learner did the emerge perfectly, LDC ranted and got his analysis 100% wrong.

Sorry, on this occasion at the start your at fault. It don’t matter if it was an Examiner or Instructor. When they pulled out they were hindered by parked cars and commenced slowly, you could see them before they could see you, and you made no attempt to reduce your speed properly on this occasion. When Learners emerge in general they don’t emerge at the efficiency of a seasoned driver. They require more time, in my opinion you didn’t allow for this. Generally your on the money, not this time.

Pulling out of a turning that you can't see properly is always going to happen in London to do it all in one maneuver is poor, i.e. you creep out slowly and if you see someone coming you stop. It shows clutch control and vision they did none of that, they didn't see me and didn't react very well when they did see me just kept going.
@DevilsHand07
@DevilsHand07 6 месяцев назад
@@thelondondashcam when they eventually saw you they were committed, you saw them first quite easily and we all know how you feel about defensive driving. You seem to forget they are Learners as and Instructor we have a very short reaction time in certain events like this, and the one thing I have noticed over the many years, the seasoned driver in general takes no prisoners where learners are concerned. I just think on this occasion you could have done more.
@thelondondashcam
@thelondondashcam 6 месяцев назад
Yes without a doubt I could/should have slowed down but I shouldn't of had to, the manoeuver wasn't a good one if you have a restricted view you edge out nice and slowly bit by bit but this was all done in one movement, and the thing is if they edged out slowly I would have probably let them out because of it being such a bad turning to get out of. And you're correct I'm not a fan of defensive driving if I have to use defensive driving it means someone else is doing something wrong in front or behind me which I have to put right.
@robertleem5643
@robertleem5643 6 месяцев назад
The first clip with the learner, they should have edged out slowly due to the parked cars and then if the road was clear turn, I would have just slowed down for them As for the white car in the 5th lane needing the exit, funny how they weaved around traffic to move across but there is a f**king big gap in front of you but doesn't want to use that. As for the impatient white car, I have no words except using the same language as you. The police need to remove many of these vehicles from our roads and make them resit their tests
@daviemac9925

The Learner at the beginning should be doing a bit of peep and creep, if it was Test that should be a fail on a Serious Fault, if the Examiner thinks there'll be a crash, they'll dual them and record it as a Dangerous Fault. Another day at the coal face!!

LDC could have done better there and driven at an appropriate speed and oh yes slowed down to help fix the problem he could see the learner in plenty of time. It may have been a poor choice to pull out however the learner did proceed to the left side of the road rather than down the middle which if it was clear they probably would have done due to cars parking both sides.
@thelondondashcam

So you don't think the instructor should have stopped the learner from doing that ? You think it's good practice to pull out of a turning see something coming but still keep going ? The proper way to do it is to edge out slowly using good clutch work, after all they are crossing give way lines. It's a shame the camera didn't pick it up but at one stage the learner and instructor's face showed they had not seen me at all, poor vision poor manoeuvre and poor instructor.
@theostickley6492
@theostickley6492 6 месяцев назад
@thelondondashcam no I do not. However as i said before you could have fixed it by slowing down rather than trying to make the situation as bad as you could by bowling onwards to get your little you tube likes. You are to quick to get on the instructors back. The learner has shared responsibility as they have the controls two of which the instructor does not. I'm not saying it gives them a free ticket to do whatever they want. But according to legal channels its the learner that gets the fines etc. As for clutch control as a learner I can only assume that you were a natural

Learner here, (not thee learner) That looked like a new 18-20 plate corsa and if it behaves the same way as the 22 plate 1L Seat Ibiza i drive then the throttle response is a bit shit or that student is setting off using the clutch only which is more controllable but really slow if you don't know what you are doing. I don't see what they did as a bad thing more poor timing Now if it was an open junction and they did that then that's bad and the instructor SHOULD call the learner out on that Tidy mki GT40 and if im not mistaken designed and tuned by us brits and powered by the Americans

Rule 163. Overtake only when it is safe and legal to do so. The overtaking car had to go over the speed limit to do so. Its future road use was also poor.
@Batters56
@Batters56 6 месяцев назад
@@geoffreythomas6366 Yes, but the beauty of breaking the Highway Code is everyone else still has to follow it! So I call Rule 168 ‘the overtakers charter”: “Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is dangerous. Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you.” So if someone is on your bumper and clearly wants to be in front of you, then to keep just driving along would be obstructing them. So that’s against the Highway Code. Secondly if someone is trying to overtake you, but you keeping at a constant sped isn’t allowing them by, then the Highway Code tells you to slow down to help their bad driving out. Thirdly it then says they can slot in right in front of you and it’s incumbent on you to drop back. The Highway Code reads always reads as “don’t do this bad thing, but if you do here’s what everyone else needs to do about it!”
@Batters56
@Batters56 6 месяцев назад
Do I do this myself? No of course not! But I believe the Highway Code should mean what it says. I hate it when people say, “No, no, no it doesn’t mean that at all” or even as Ashley Neal says… conflicting statements in it are good! They are not.

That learner in the first clip was committed before they saw you and the instructor and pupil wasn't quick enough to clutch in and stop and they just let it go. Obviously the learner stalls it and the instructor clutched in to free wheel it out of the way. I can sympathise because I'm an instructor and have been in this position before. It was no nicer for the instructor than it was for you, I'd be thankful it was you coming that slowed down to turn it into a non-event I would. Everytime this has happened to me a car has accelerated into us and pipped which makes things really awkward. We only get a split second to intervene and we don't always get it right due to incorrect expectations of the pupil we barely know. We don't mean to do this and we try our best to avoid it honestly.
