A family vacation to Badamtam Tea Estate, 18 kms beyond Darjeeling.
On landing at Bagdogra, we waited in front of a stall outside the Arrival terminal, till Uttam, our driver came to pick us up.
We crossed the army cantonment and took the Pankhabari Road. The scenic beauty through this route is simply breath-taking, which leads you through the various tea gardens, including that of Makaibari Tea Estate.
After crossing Kurseong, we passed by three toy-trains enjoyed the lovely feeling of the clouds coming down to engulf you inside the car.
We drove through the Darjeeling town and went to Badamtam. On the way, we went pass the famous North-Point school, Tenzing Rock, Rope-way, Chitre village and Lebong Bazar.
The road is good till Lebong Bazar, from where 8 kms distance to Badamtam tea estate is quite bad, but the beauty makes up for it. The view is mostly covered by fog and clouds, but the chill, the mountains and the beauty of the tea garden is lovely. Beyond the gate of the Badamtam factory complex, we could see a locality, comprising of a few houses. One of those houses is our homestay - The Mountain Bliss.
The homestay is a three storied building, where the rooms and the toilets are small, but quite decent enough. The terrace has been converted into a viewing lounge cum dining area and this is the view from here. One can spend hours sitting here and stare at the mighty Kanchenjunga in front.
You may contact the owner of the homestay, Mr. Bipindra Pradhan (9832072925), for enquiries and booking. We paid a tariff of 1,750/- per person, ie 3,500/- per couple per day, which includes breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner. The taste and quality of food is good and homely, which includes Bengali, Indian, Chinese and local Nepali cuisine. The place being remote, wi-fi connectivity and mobile tower is often week.
