It took me years to realize how much hard work Manisha Ma'am put in this choreography cause matching steps with Madhuri Dixit with Ganesh Acharya's choreography is not an easy task but she nailed it . In my childhood I thought both of them are trained dancers but when I didn't knew Madhuri Ma'am was trained in classical (From Sir Birju Maharaj) and Bollywood (From Saroj Khan)*

Maduri's dance is very expressive, like most great dancers. With those effortless moves, the fluidity, the grance, the perfect flow and stop-poses, there are wonderful, chaging expressions, non-verbal conversations with other participants and just the photogenic charm that you do not see anyone else on the set.

Manisha is not considered a great dancer... She herself has said it many times that she had to do a lot of hard work to match her steps with Madhuri.

Madhuri is the Goddess :-) her grace is totally something else and her dancing is solid due to her classical dance training since childhood.

The song is from the critically acclaimed film "Pukar" which gave Anil Kapoor the National Best Actor Award. Other performances are also very good. A.R.Rehman gave the music and lyrics were written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and Javed Akhtar. Majrooh Sultanpuri is legendary urdu poet and Indian lyricist. He was one of the dominating musical artists in Indian cinema. This song is sung by Shankar Mahadevan ( you know him) and Kavita Krishnamurthy( one of the best playback and classical singers of all time, you would like to know her). 🌸 Even though it’s an inconsistent mess, very loud at times, eagerly using ultra-villain and other Hindi film tropes and all of that, I’d still recommend watching Lajja for some brilliant parts involving Madhuri, Rekha and Mahima that I can’t forget. It’s as if the filmmakers didn’t know how to bring all parts of the story together, so it does feel like several movies within a movie. The subplots show however that the intention was to bring to screen, in a big way, the problems Indian women face in several parts of society. It’s now 20 years later, and I still wish someone else had worked the screenplay further to develop and sharpen it, and some other director (someone less mainstream) had picked up the direction. Ah well. 🙃

When I interviewed the choreographer of the song Saroj Khan ...someone who has done most of her big ticket numbers - she told me that both Aishwarya and older Madhuri were fabulous. Aishwarya with a younger tighter body may have been good. But she said no one can match Madhuri's facial expressions. She told me ...she literally kills it with her just right expression. With SRK - Dil toh Pagal Hai - koi ladki hai jab woh Song with Iconic Prabhu Deva ; Que Sera Sera After her marriage and her kids The best 2 With Ranbir Kapoor : Ghagara ( he wanted to dance with his icon so when an opportunity rose he suggested her name for this song in his film) Her song from her film after a marriage kids break- song - Aaja Nachle the big stage number And one song O Re Piya (that is what the songs in Hindi films are meant to be ...song scene ...taking the story forward ) lovely song but has some lovely dancing too...
