In our second attempt at the Badlands race, we thought we knew what to expect, but the experience was even more challenging than before. Our strategy was simple: ride as much as possible, sleep as little as possible, and push through the extreme conditions.
We started strong but the intense heat in the Gorafe Desert tested our limits, leaving us dizzy and dehydrated with 30 km to go before finding water in Gor. By night, we climbed into the cold Sierra de Baza, riding until exhaustion forced us to stop after 22 hours.
After a brief rest, we battled heat and humidity as we crossed the coast. Every restaurant was closed, and we had to continue through challenging terrain without food. Hallucinations and sleep deprivation set in as we climbed Sierra Alhamilla during the night, leading to a tough 15 km descent to Tabernas, where a short nap gave us the energy to push through.
The final stretch was the most difficult, with 77 km left and +2,570m of elevation. What we thought would take a few hours stretched to 8-9, testing our physical and mental endurance. But with determination, we crossed the finish line in Capileira at 4:03 a.m., after 68 hours of riding. It was a moment of triumph-closure after last year's unfinished attempt...
