that's awesome. welcome to Greg's brother 🤘🏼 Badlands did a 2nd album I think in 1991 and then they recorded a 3rd album that no record company wanted to touch and Badlands was unable to secure a deal for those songs but they can be found somewhere around YT
@@javtimestwo That album was called "Dusk" and it was released by a Japanese labe a while back. I got the Japanese import. I know Jake has been in a legal battle over the rights for those albums so they can be re-released but it's complicated. That first album is an in my opinion one of the greatest hard rock albums ever.
@@username-zj9id by the time the band wrote/recorded the 3rd albums, Badlands was part of a genre that was not cool anymore. bands like Badlands were not getting US record deals anymore so even though they recorded a US label was not going to give them a deal let's be honest, the first two albums didn't sell much at all, with the 2nd album selling fewer than the debut. just a sign on the times, unfortunately
@@username-zj9id I read somewhere that their manager revealed Gillen’s HIV diagnosis to the label. Can’t remember why. Because of that the label dropped them.
I'm revisiting this album. I always liked Voodoo Highway better, but I forgot how genius this album was as well. Jake, yea. No words. Just kicking ass!
This is simply one of the BEST albums ever made. Badlands are the best kept secret in music. To bad Ray Gillian passed away. Jake E. Lee just shreds like nobody’s business.
@@caveman385 yes, Eddie Trunk verified this on one of his podcasts. It's sad because this and other Badland albums will never be rereleased because of what Rey did. Part of a lawsuit brought against Rey by the women he infected.
It's Jake E. Lee. He was with Ozzy before the Witch fired him from Ozzy. He got so Up-set Because of it, he went and made his Own Band. His 2nd Album is BAD-ASS also. Ray Passed a-way in the 90's late some-time. Health Problems. Eric Singer is the Drummer on this Album. Eric Play's with Kiss Off and on thow.
Nearly 60, I remembered this blaring out onto the streets from my bedroom during long summer days and cool winter nights; some years later I’m still rocking it, and my kids are huge fans of these and every other great rock band of the eighties; my 18 year old just gets blown away by this!
I was blessed to be able to do some local roadie stuff for these guys in Redding California right after this album came out. Talk about a sweet group of guys! Every one of em! I got to hang with them all day before the show and a few hours after. They were absolutely INSANE on stage! Killer show! Great memories.... R.I.P. Ray... One of the finest voices of all time!!
This album is without a doubt one of the best hard rock albums of all time. And it's definitely Jake E. Lee's best work. And it just goes without saying Ray was just a phenomenal singer. The vocal melodies on this album are just unbelievable. This band should have been WAY bigger. I've often thought hard about why they weren't bigger and I think it comes down to two reasons. One, the musical landscape back then was just jam packed with rock bands. This was when Guns N Roses and Metallica simply ruled the rock world and there was just simply so many bands and you also had the transition from 80s rock to grunge. And two, I think this is almost a more mature form of hard rock that not everyone can appreciate. This is not "Unskinny Bop" or "We're not Gonna Take It." It's almost like a painting you would see on Night Gallery. Almost morose at times. And I love the hell out of it. I have all three albums on my phone and I keep coming back to them and just marvel at how good Badlands was.
Being it’s out of print can’t find it on Apple Music or anywhere else. Just found a used cd on Amazon. Had it years ago when it first came out and wore it out. Glad I found another copy
@@GeneralTHC Eddie Trunk talked about this on his show recently. I don't know if it was someone's daughter but apparently he was very careless after he knew he was HIV+
You just will never hear another voice like Ray Gillen. Incredible! With Jake by his side.... Unstoppable talent Beauty at it's best, never to be replicated....
I'm just know listening to BADLANDS for the first time !! I grew up in the 80s and somehow missed these guys on my radar !! Man what an incredibly tight sounding band !! Excellent LEAD VOCALS and LEAD GUITARIST !! YOU know what they say, hind sight is 20/20. I'm just glad I found them at the ripe old age of 55 !!
Richard Clark ; HOW are you listening to them just now? You can’t buy any of their music...well the first two albums anyway. So how do you hear their shit now?
The 1980s were basically; incredible!! = was prime great fun af living!!!, really ;) lol however, I lost track of Jake after his Ozzy work but really liked him and I'm listening to this album for first time now, however the first two songs sound familiar, anyways I love Jake's playing style here and I'll be looking to his other Badlands albums and work with Red Dragon for eargasm guitar bliss, haha, enjoy! :)
!!!"Welcome Richard"!!! I'm 57, it was only through a friend who turned me on to them way back then... I wrote something on this site today, but this is just for you... "I Can't Be More Happy For You If Just Got To Hear This Band"...
Ray Gillen is a vocal master, along side Jake E Lee, created one of the greatest works in history, truly beautiful to my ears! Rest in peace Ray! If I could have any voice in the world it would sound like his.
50 year old here, and this is just as magical and brings up those rebelious teenage feelings like it did when i first heard "dreams in the dark" on headbangers ball way back when life was simple and fun! thanks so much for posting this...took me back to where i wish i had never left!!
I bought this album in 89 and have loved it ever since. Jake is amazing but for me it's all about Ray's vocals. My goodness what a voice he literally sings from the bottom of his soul!!!!! Feel very fortunate to be around when they came and rocked my life, thank you to this band
Those of you who thought Jake E. Lee's best work was with Ozzy, think again! RIP Ray Gillian..great vocalist! Not nearly enough recognition for this band.
Set the scene; Summertime driving at night, windows down, sunroof out, car audio near full volume, me singing this album in the car. Soooo under-rated.
It is a crime that this Classic gem has not been uploaded to Apple Music’s ever growing library of music!!!Some body needs to put this in the library immediately,Pronto, and now!!!!!!
one crime begets another? it's a simple matter to record the audio stream of this upload. as is true of all music posted on youtube. copyrighted music really shouldn't be on youtube at all, just as copyrighted video is not. but since this record is here, and i cannot buy it, i'm recording it. from the beginning, or at least since payola, the music industry has had so many shady characters and grey morals, that it simply can't stand on principle on anything. what i'm most mystified by though is why the lawyers didn't suggest that the record remain in print and all proceeds go to victims' funds or something along those lines.
There are very legit reasons why the music is not available on streaming services. Just search the internet and you will read all about it. We all enjoy this music but at the same time we have to respect the victims, their families and the settlement that was litigated by all those parties involved.
I used to ride my mountain bike to this album when I was living in Manzanita, Oregon. Right across the street from the Pacific Ocean💕🙂 I was in the best shape of my life, ROCKIN' it out!! Take care, Washington State USA 🇺🇸🌅
Badlands was like a turbo charged high octane Led Zeppelin. Jake is a true master and will always be underrated. His parts are so good yet so intricate. His leads are always dancing on the edge.
Front to back just a killer loaded hard rock album with dynamics, melody, nasty and tasty guitar work, stunning vocals and great SONGS. One of the best rock albums of the decade. Just push play at any point on this album and you’re good. And what a great goddamn name for a band on top of it all.
I was 16 in 1989……..I’ve never really got into badlands at that time in life! It’s always great to add some monster 80’s Rock 33 yrs later………Jake E Lee is a monster on this album…………Ray Gillen has the most amazing voice I believe in Rock RIP Ray
Eric Singer just KILLS it on this album. I agree but Jeff is also very tasty in his licks. Not as good as Singer but what he does on the second album fits the band well.
Guitar is tuned in like on Ozzys Ultimate Sin but more hard blues. This is my kind of Metal. Not the new popular stuff on the radio. This record just flat out rocks. Long live 1989. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
This was my first concert. Ray sang right to me.Dreams In The Dark no less.I was so happy that night. Terrible to hear about his passing. I really would have liked to hear more from Badlands.
A huge Led Zeppelin flavour to this songs... True Rock n' Roll giants... RIP Ray Gillen... What a singer! And Jake E. Lee... OMFG! Great guitar player and monster composer!
this album should have gone platinum or multi-platinum. Atlantic should have pushed the record more. i don't think the record had any "singles" but MTV could have played their videos a little more. by the time the 2nd album was released the band was no longer relevant
Still beats me why Grunge was seen to be relevant! Depressed junkies with no fun about them was 'relevant'? I tell you the world don't think at times 😂😂😂
One of the greatest Hard Rock releases of the 80s--will always be a fave of mine for all time at times ;-) You know what I mean...mood, tone...weather Love the LP!
Ray, riposa in pace. 🖤 ( by Marco
I haven't heard these songs for a lifetime. I love everyone of them. They take me back 25 years to some of the best days of my life. Thanks for uploading.
Scott K seen the tour in Evansville indiana james hetfield broke his arm so they didnt play proud jake e lee took tbe show ozzy was to drunk it was sad but the rest of the band kicked but
Yup, I saw Ozzy on the Ultimate Sin tour with Metallica as the opening act in Chicago. Metallica had released Master of Puppets and Cliff was still alive. After seeing them Ozzy was good but Metallica blew the doors off the place.
Oh my holy god that would have been ridiculous. If I saw Puppet's era Metallica and Ozzy with Jake in the one sitting I would self destruct. I can't emphasise enough how ridiculous that is.
Jake is very underrated....glad he’s once again active. Brad Gillis delivered after Randy’s passing. I saw ultimate sin tour in San Francisco...killer show.
I would like to line up the 177 people who thumbs downed this so I can slap the shit out of them for not knowing knowing musical talent when they hear it . Jakes guitar playing is superb . No fancy hammer ons or whatever just straight in your face rock guitar . The dusk albums is even better since it was a demo intended for the record company to just get a taste and see if they were gonna produce it so it’s all pretty much played live with one takes . No overdubbing or editing and truly shows these guys talent . Listen closely for yourselves .
Ele domina!! Pena que foi embora tão cedo. Meus sentimentos!!
What a legend, commercial hard rock with Ozzy, major star, but comes out firing with raw, loud, aggressive (but still very well produced) sound with his own band. These guys made fantastic music, cut short tragically early.
I'm 53 years old and I hate the way the so called fans of this music turned their backs on it when grunge/nirvana turned up. How do you decide that the music you have loved for a decade or more now means nothing to you.
While that is true, Badlands second album was just as awesome as this one, a lot of bands went the grunge way to make it easier to turn on them. It could've been the record companies or the bands themselves. There was also a glut of shit metal out there that made it easier to hate, The record companies signed any band out of L.A. Greatness like Badlands went underappreciated.
@@666Necropsy All entertainment does. Psyops and social engineering at its finest. However, enjoy the living blazes out of gems like Badlands. Good music is there. One just has to search deeper, longer and harder. (pun intended)
I went their show in NY. I don't remember exactly when but they were so cool. I can't forget about that show. It was not a big venue but the show was pretty intense.
I bought this (and Voodoo Highway) when it first came out and I’ve never gotten tired of listening to it. One of the best of the best hard rock albums ever. Better than 90% of what was popular in the 80’s metal scene.
Jake E Lee Easily in the top 10 of greatest metal / hard rock guitarists , Dreams in the dark is absolutely amazing work. Highly, highly underrated band , what a shame they did not last , it’s a tragedy, but we are left with this highly sought after album, I mean gosh, I can’t find them on Amazon music , so thanks to the person who put it here.
He his a top notch drummer. 🥁 In my opinion, his arrival with Kiss totally re-energize the band by his dynamic playing. Revenge is still one of my favorite Kiss album. No disrespect intented to the great Eric Carr rip.
