Not to mention that the dupes clothes was so hot, it turned into refined carbon... It makes you question the elaborate lengths these guys take to kill themselves...

@@kelciheit I swear the devs intentionally code their behaviour to choose the side that creates a room for the dupes to work from. Take your eyes off them for 5 seconds and you suddenly have 10 dupes suffocating because they all decided to move to the less convenient side to build just so they can achieve death.

UnDeadPuff not to mention them walking into literal magma chamber just to put some abysalite into storage even though you have your liquid lock blocked by a locked door. Sometimes I question if the game will ever be playable past cycle ~6000 without large scale errors occurring

@@kelciheit TBh cycle 2000 and past are quite a lot of playtime. Not many games keep a save going for so many hours without hitches and with complexity. -- my dupes like to go into the lava to clean up even if there's cleanup orders in other parts of the map.

Most likely explanation. I have seen that exact thing happen in front of me more than one time and I use Francis design for regolith destruction for solars

The timing of the crash was almost prefect :) My best stupid technology moment was looking at a wall map in someone's house, an honest to goodness paper poster map of the world. I was looking at a tiny island and I tried to use my fingers to pinch expand the view! What has google maps done to my brain.

Unfortunately, no matter how little mass you use, attempting to use actual heat to transform clay and coal will ALWAYS create a natural tile. And mining a natural tile destroys half the mass, so spending some extra coal is way better than losing half your ceramic and refined carbon.

You can give it a shot, the save game file is always there to have a look about. Maybe use diamond tiles instead of steel to be sane. Allow yourself plenty of time and you can make just about anything you put your mind to.

Thanks. Was aiming for compact and working, but the magma blade heat exchange at the end really put it over the top. I designed it originally without that feature so in theory you should be able to remove a bunch of the heat exchange tiles and rails and have it still work while being even smaller, though slightly less magma efficient.

17! did you forget to use the petroleum layer to prevent the heat deletion bug? I would love to rip out the ethanol but I need the polluted dirt to feed the crabs so I can get the lime to make the silly amounts of steel.

@@FrancisJohnYT I forgot about the little buggers! It seems you find yourself stuck with ethanol... I have petroleum but I installed only 17 turbines. However using a hydrogen loop passing through the heat element, attached to a gas pipe thermo sensor I can reliably now start stop the system on demand so I can pretend that I don't waste power...

I was thinking about that but never got into the testing of it, I have seen it run for cycles without needing any heat injection at all. Might be an interesting side project to give a try sometime.

I'm going to consider that loss natural selection at work, though at some point I think I'll have to get the body back.

I have learned so much from games commentary as well! Not recently, I've been doing this for 12 years now, but it really helps to listen to a native speaker for many hours. Also try to pronounce interesting words and phrases right after you hear them, it's a very important part of becoming comfortable with speaking English freely and confidently.

@@alexnoman1498 english isn't a problem to me, I'm able to watch series in Netflix and tv programs without subtitle. But he speaks really fast even in comparison with others RU-vidrs.

I keep them flush with the ground for speed reasons but considering the difficulty in fixing vacuum that might be a better idea.

I really love how the developers have allowed stuff like this, the game is really a sandbox for silly creations.

The odds just seem so unlikely, what is on top of bunker doors they would want? I have lots of Iron, Copper, Gold and regolith everywhere.

If a dupe can do something in the least efficient way possible, I'm pretty sure they are contractually obliged to do so. I they can get to gold at the top of the map instead of the perfectly fine volcano they eventually will.

You can let it pile up in a vacuum or ranch stone hatches in a vacuum with it. Both will slow down your game. If you let it pile up, you end up with ever increasing amount of igneous rock. If you ranch hatches, you will need 85 to consume 20 kg/s. I'll leave it in vacuum, should be less calculations for my poor cpu

It has a weird bug at the moment, I had to download another mod that allows you to force update mods and that fixed it.

If you get the average output of the volcanoes and plug those numbers into the ONI calculator you can figure out how many you need, on average

Pretty sure I clean the whole thing up before I seal it up, I avoid debris in my builds if I can :)

What bug? I know that the heat exchange on rails was greatly increased but I though that was intentional and was still the case.

I tried reinstalling the game and I'm still getting crashes. I think I'll do a full system reinstall after the end of this series.

Yep, takes a good 15 seconds to save the game, though I have it set to only save every 10 cycles.

The magma blade is in vacuum, so tempshift plates wouldn't have any effect other than adding thermal mass. It might even make the heat exchanger worse, since it would conduct heat from one side to another and having a temperature gradient is important for heat exchangers.

@@tetrikitty1686 But the rail the magma and the temp plate would be occupying the same tile, would that still need gas medium for heat transfer?

@@ChloyeFeraythArel I probably phrased that wrong. What I meant is that tempshift plate interacts with the solid/liquid/gas in tiles, so it will exchange heat with the magma but not with the rail. They're meant more for moving heat between tiles than within the same tile.

At 20kg/s it's possible, though you might be better off getting a volcanic active map and uncapping all the volcanoes.

I had not bother to do the math but now you have me worried. I need to run 85 hatches or I'm going to end up swimming in Igneous rock and slowing down the game. That's a lot of critters, which will slow down the game. Not seeing a lot of options here.

​@@FrancisJohnYT Can't you just send the igneous rocks to the ranches you already have, add 4 more hatch ranches on top, and then remplace 4 slickster ranches with skimmers to compensate?

@@Tamizushi Would not like to dump 200C rock into my core base, no one is wearing suits in there. I would put the ranches in the vacuum area to be safe. I would also consider just dumping the ethanol into space. We don't need the power any more or the slicksters. Just the P dirt for the crabs.

@@FrancisJohnYT Hi. I know it's too late for new ideas because you already moved to a new series but I just wanted to share a new idea I had for that problem. Basically, if my math is correct, the heat absorbed from killing the babies of 85 adult hatches is enough to cool 20kg/s of igneous rock by about 80 celsius. So my idea would be to pass the regolith through another row of steam turbines so that it's temperature falls down somewhere between 125 and 150 celcius, and then transfer its remaining heat to an ethanol evolution chamber. The boiling point of ethanol is 78 celcius and hatches die at 70 celcius, meaning they will always either die from the heat or from drowning. The igneous rock should get cooled down to around 80 celcius in the process which is much more manageable than 200 celcius. At least, that's the theory.

I'v seen a lot of controversy surrounding the game I was going to hold out until they release it.
