In 2018 I had gotten a bit bored with music and then I found this and Lo-Fi, synthwave, and vaporwave. Music became fun and inspirational again, more than ever before.
***** Specific examples that I can remember of the top of my head are early Saint Pepsi fan videos (specifically Cherry Pepsi, Private Caller, Just Begun and Enjoy Yourself), and channels like ArtzieMusic, Sun Levi, coastal田舎 and ElFamosoDemon before early 2015 (it's not strictly Japanese, but they employ a lot of salvaged retro video clips specifically from the late-1970s to the 1990s).
well tbh 80s/90 anime in Future Funk makes sense, since a lot of the future funk songs are remixed 70s/80s/90s songs from Japan so I mean it makes sense
LinkxMage The problem is oversaturation of 80s/90s anime for Future Funk visuals, specifically teen romance anime. In the past year it's pretty much replaced everything else, making the visuals indistinguishable from each other and in turn less interesting. Artzie Music for example, one of the most visible Future Funk channels around, used to have a healthy mix of everything (including anime) during its early Vaporwave years and transition to Future Funk, even throwing in some nice surprises, but since 2015, when it's come to rely on anime, it's been constricting to watch its newer videos knowing that the music could play out with more than just anime.
Vinesauce Obscurities true, I think a lot of the stuff on artzie music is just over using old anime, I personally dont mind some of it because I just love old anime art style, whether its characters designs, cities, music, I like it more than most anime out today so I don't mind it, but it is getting over used and I think the quality of future funk, the sound of it, isn't as good as before.
I think that that is one of the great things about Vaporwave: artists will sample songs, potentially re-imagining them into something a wholly different audience can enjoy, or, make people aware of the original songs and genres that are at the base of those new versions they enjoy. It just adds to the richness of music that genre-based generation won't inherently achieve.
I don't care what genre this is. I don't care how i got here. I don't care if it's meant to be listened to ironically. All I do know is I like this. I like it a lot. Almost too much.
@David I had this idea that since japanese City pop was getting popular on tick tock there would be a flood of people coming in on this video but I guess I over estimated the depths those people where willing to go to find similar sounding music
