Hi Lesley, I’m watching you from Australia, and I just wanted to say how much I love your podcasts. Out of all the ones I watch, I look forward to yours the most, you make me smile a lot, even laugh out loud ( which is no mean feat ). So thank you, stay the beautiful person you are.
Always lovely to see you Les. Glad to hear your father's health is improving. There is a term for projects waiting to become wips that I love - Needle Adjacent. This not only includes projects where the yarn is caked, a project bag is found and needles all ready, but even those that are but a twinkle in the knitter's eye!
Finally well enough to catch up with podcasts again. Love your crochet ‘Boxy’ sweater. You and your topless mitts, you cheeky minx 😳 I wish it really was more like autumn 🐿️🍂🤎🦔🍁 Jinnny
Hi Jinny. I was wondering how you are and am delighted to hear from you - especially as it means you are well enough to watch xx Thanks so much and take care xx
I do love your videos. I can laugh and feel cheered up no end. But then you mention me aswell!! So excited! I was just catching up on my crafting records (it the only thing that is current and, mostly, up to date) Been over to Washington, Newcastle way to celebrate birthdays with two of the grandchildren. Not twin, but a grandson who some ow turned 13 🤷 and a granddaughter who turned 10. Their birthdays are five days apart, so we go with who ever is nearest to the weekend, this year granddaughter's was on Sunday. So had a good bit of crafting whilst husband drove their and back. Luckily I always take spare yarn as I was asked to make a book cover for a school book, so invented a bag/book cover and whipped it up on Sunday afternoon. Well done on your makes. I do love the short sleeved one. More my style. Right I'd better email you before the brain forgets! Thanks again xxJane 🐑🌈
Hi Jane. Glad you had a great weekend with the family. Good invention on the book cover! Hope the grandchildren had grear birthdays. Congrats on winning the prize - thanks for taking part in the MAL xx
Thanks for another relaxed and interesting episode, love knitting in your company. Don’t worry about the commercials, I just turn off the sound and then it doesn’t even bother me. Glad to hear that your dad is making progress. Take care - looking forward to your next episode. 🧶☕️🕯️🌟💕
I’m enjoying fall-season. Went to Ikea in Älmhult (where it all first started) yesterday with one of mt sons.He bought shelves. Me? Bought Xmas presents gor my 3 granddaughters and chocolate for me ❤️🤭
Hi Lesley. Lovely to spend some time with you. Glad you've had a crafty and productive month. Love both sweaters. Good to hear that your dad is doing well at home. Sure, he'll find the mittens useful. Heard a few talking about the RU-vid changes. We've got the grandchildren having a sleepover. So, there's not much crafting happening. Had a hilarious game of bingo, which they brought with them. Granddaughter knew all the lingo. Apparently, they play in school. Have a lovely weekend, take care. X
Hi Angela. Bingo? I don't know about you, but that was a bit "uncool" when I was school age Interesting how things go in and out of favour. Glad you had a great time with the children. Thanks and take care xx
Hi Lesley, Thank you. Look forward to your Bog jacket being done interested to see the construction. Love your crochet boxy, also the striped sweater you are wearing always catches my eye. Good to hear your dad is doing ok. Take care.
Hello Lesley! I watch you from Israel and always look forward to the weekly episodes as well as the monthly roundups. I love both finished sweaters. Hurray for making it through the test pattern, eventually. I like it being oversized and cumfy. The striped one is more my taste as far as colors go. It is fabulous! Your spun yarn worked out fantastically into a fingerless glove. Gorgeous colors and stitch definition. Wonderful yarn acquisitions and new yarn you've spun is lovely. RU-vid do what suits them and brings more income to them.
Hi. Thanks so much. You are very kind. Yes - RU-vid can do what it likes - it doesn't charge us to post videos or to watch them, so it's income generation is it's own decision, I guess. Thanks again and hope all is well with you xx
Hi Lesley- I really like your neck band treatment on the color block sweater. The bands of color on the neck bring a sense of coherence to the sweater. I agree with your call on making both sleeves and pockets out of the same yarn. Again, I think it makes the sweater look more planned, and the colors work so well together. I’m glad for you that you are finding more time to craft. I’m sure that makes for a much happier Lesley. Also I’m glad your dad in doing well at home. What a relief for everyone! Take care, see you next month or on the vlog. harpingJanet
Hi Janet. Thanks so much. There was an element of "making it up as I went along" but I am pleased with the result. Hope all is well with you. Take good care xx
Everything you make is gorgeous !! I love them all !! I fell like RU-vid’s loosing $$,so the ones that were paying extra to keep the ads off their channel, now have them anyway. More $$ in their pockets ( RU-vid).
Thanks, Lesley, for sharing your insight of what will change with the platform. I have so appreciated the settings you have made and feel very uncorfortable if people making the videos do not have the choice over their channels any more. But we will live with whatever happens as we do not have any other choice. Cheers!
Hi. Thanks so much - you are absolutely right that we will not have a lot of choice - all the time RU-vid is free to watch and free to upload, we have to take what they decide, if we want to stay. Thanks for being here and hope all is well with you xx
Hi Lesley. Enjoy watching your episodes. I know its not knitting related but your hairstyle lately looks paricularly complimentary. Not sure how its changed but it looks very nice.
❤ the show as usual love. Lovely to catch you on zoom. Maybe now we are home I'll get time to get healthy and back into the swing of podcasting. Love your Dad's mitt. The boxy is devine! Cheer s love xx almost forgot, your hairs is so fun! Love it.
Lovely to watch your September round up! Difficult to pick a favourite of all your finishes this month but I think the Boxy tee is my favourite! It looks really good on you! I think you are brave to persevere on you Penguono (sorry spelling!) if you’re not enjoying it. Life’s too short Lesley! Glad to hear your dear Dad continues to improve. Take care and thanks for a lovely episode x
Thanks Heather. The Penguono may not be surviving - it's a fine line between bravery and stupidity! Hope all is well with you and that you enjoyed your adventures last month xx
the Chroma is fabulous the extra colour on sleeves sets it off looks good in the pics, as does the model . same with the crochet boxy I feel same as you regarding publishing the pattern. looking forward to seeing the finished jacket . keep taking care xxx
I sit here knitting on my Chroma watching you talk about yours/ Thank you enabler! lol Keep the channel monetized. A few ads don't hurt anyone. Sometimes refreshing the browser gets rid of them if there is no skip button. I love your whirly whirly designs. You made me fall down the rabbit hole with the bog coat ... umm there is a knitting pattern on Ravelry that one can be knit up. xx
Hi. Hope you are enjoying the Chroma. It's a very cosy sweater! I know that Elizabeth Zimmerman did a bog coat pattern - footsteps I am happy to follow. Thanks so much and hope all is well xx
The Elizabeth Zimmerman Bog Jacket pattern is a good knit and no cutting required. I've made the child sizes twice and I am thinking of making an adult size next.
Oh my - two finished boxy-style sweaters. You are on a roll! I have just started another boxy (knitted version) since we are going on a long car drive next week and I turn into a whining baby the minute we hit heavy traffic. So when we need 5 hours instead of the usual 3 at least I have a half finished sweater 😄Happy 1st. of October - love your new hairstyle! Cheers, N.
Fun monthly roundup. I pay a monthly $9.99 for RU-vid premium so I never have to watch the commercials. It’s worth it to me as I don’t watch cable tv this is my connection to the world tor news and entertainment. Way better than paying for cable imo
Thank you for sharing again. I absolutely love your most recent crochet boxy. So beautiful!! Everytime I see one of your crochet boxy sweaters, I vow that I am going to make one. Haven't yet, but I sure enjoy seeing yours. Speaking of Bog Jacket, I've made one, of sorts. It's in one of your scrappy type MALs. I loosely follow the instructions from one of Elizabeth Zimmerman's patterns. I will post which book when I figure that out. I didn't do any steeking. I bound off and cast back on at the locations that would normally be steeks. It worked perfectly. Take care.
Hi Jess. Thanks so much. I saw that there was an EZ pattern for it. Hope you get good use from yours xx Thanks so much, and thank you for being here xx
Thank you for a lovely episode. Interesting thoughts on YT from a creators perspective. I watched ads for the longest time, to support creators, but then I had it, and opted in for Premium Light, to get out of the ads. YT has changed the conditions of that under way, and now they have completely cancelled it from end of october, so about same time they are changing for creators, by the looks of it. I will probably buy a more expensive product they are offering, as I dont pay for any other streaming or tv, and YT creators have provided me with mountains of entertainment, knowledge, inspiration and company, and I hope they will keep on keeping on for a long time.
Hi! Thank you for keeping me company as ply the bits of handspun to free up another spindle. I agree, the fiber tells me what it wants to be and tends to be thinner but very consistent so now need 3 ply or chain ply some of the 2 ply. Have some fleece soaking, more drying outside. Still trying to decide how best to showcase and what I will wear the next 30 yrs.. Lots of yarn on sale the other day... all acrylic and not one appealed to me, this is a very good thing given the number of fleeces. Hope all goes well the next month for you
Hi Cheryl I am glad I'm not the only one who lets the fibre dictate the spin...I just need to keep practicing to achieve your level of consistency. Well resisted on the yarn sale and happy spinning. Thanks and take care xx
Hi Lesley, love your podcast as always, smiling all the way through. I just watched a new podcast recommended by the grocery girls, and I thought this episode could help you with your Penguono mojo, I’ve always wanted to knit one, and I might now, but in the winter as we are now going into Summer and it’s already toooo hot here in Australia ❤ They are the ‘Knitting Twinings’ from Paris.
Love your finished-with-mods Chroma, I bought the pattern and have it waiting while I finish several wips and other sidetracks. Ditch the Penguono, Lesley, your face is a dead giveaway of how you feel about it. I attempted it too, but gave up quicker than you! I won't be doing the latest MKAL of his either. BUT I do have a project that I think you'll like, it 's a poncho in any number of colours and yarn weights. The free pattern is released tomorrow, I'll forward it to you. Cheers from a windy NZ spring.
You know, I think you are right , I'm not even sure I will wear it, once it's done. Thanks for offering the details of that pattern - it sounds like a much better idea. Thank you for being the voice of reason. Take good care xx
Love your new yarns. I’m looking for some pinky yarn for a tee. Did you see Jude’s new yarn color? #want I’ve no business buying another inch of yarn, but Im in love with it.
As someone who suffers from fairly severe neuropathy which is neurological not circulatory, I have found knitted wool socks a necessity for sleep. I know they shouldn't work, but they do. So perhaps knitted wool mittens WOULD help your father. Just a thought.
Yet another enjoyable and informative podcast. Given all you have to do I'm amazed at how productive you are. It's comparative...I feel like I must be part sloth. I particularly liked the looks of the boxy sweater. Very attractive. Cheers.
It's always wonderful to spend some time with you! I agree with you about ads. Distracting and disruptive, especially mid-roll. Have a great October, Lesley!!
Albeit annoying with mid roll ads. I will still watch your podcast!!! I had many people on my channel say they will stuck with me. Also many people paid for premium so they don't see ads at all.
Hiya. I will still watch you, too! My concern is, even if we turn off monetization, will the mid roll ads still play? Frustrating, isn't it? Just something we'll have to get used to, I guess? Hope you are doing well - I am about a week behind on podcasts (as usual). Take care xx
Have you ever calculated your average number of metres knit/crocheted in a year? I think you can do that through the project files on , if you’ve kept track.
Hiya. I usually do a round up in the December podcasts with amount used/gained calculated, so working out averages should be straightforward. Thanks and take care xx
My understanding is that you still get ads on channels that are not monetised, it is just the creator has no control or influence over the ads and thus the creator doesn't benefit from them. I have watched several channels that are not monetised which still have had ads on them if you tube decides. I would rather a creator benefits if i am going to have to sit through the ads anyway. i would look into ad placement on not monetised channels before you make any decision.
I am one who will watch the ads to give the producer the revenue, until the ad is either longer than the original video, or I get the same ad 3 times in one video. Apple and the movie trailers are bad right now.
Hi Teresa. Thank you for that. It will be interesting to see how things go, and what the RU-vid planners will consider to be an "enhanced user experience " Thanks and take care xx
