Regarding the Brahma's origin, there has been disagreement and misunderstanding. The name "Shanghai" birds refers to the large, heavily feathered birds that were brought to the United States in the 1840s from the Chinese port of Shanghai. The Brahma's unique head shape and pea comb are likely the result of cross-breeding with Grey Chittagong birds of Malay descent.
