Throw his name out there. You might save one of your viewers from getting scammed by this guy. We have to look out for each other, bad sellers should get a bad rap.
*_I had a friend who had a ASM and X-Men guy. After three-3-years, the message from him was off, his syntax was changed. So instead of getting what the seller said was a great bundle, my friend only ordered 1 book and yup, it was dogshit._* *_He later found out he had passed away and his son took over the side hustle. Rumor of another incident with someone else has it someone was not pleased with being hustled and, well "violence ensued"._*
Dude this one hurts. I feel for you my friend. I can’t stand how people can be conniving, manipulative and just down right scoundrels. Especially after building a rapport with them
That's like a so called person that borrows money from you and pays you back to later borrowing more money from you and ghosts you. A cautionary tale. So sad.
Aw man that sucks, I like giving people the benefit of doubt but the fact he blocked your number is telling. He knew he was ripping you off, all for a quick buck. Sorry that happened to you, lesson learned, thanks for sharing
i am so sorry for you James, this really hurts all of us as collectors. imagine how he would feel if it happened to him. last year, i purchased a Hulk annual from an online company. it was absolutely beautiful, color popped. when i got it, it was in a G/VG 3.0 at best. there were two of them for sale, they sent the crappy one to me. i than looked back, and seen that the hot one was still there. never said a word, just will not buy from them ever again. this proves how bad money hungry people truly are, sorry again my friend, but you truly should point him out, for the sake of all of us. be safe James.
Throwing two years of a relationship away is really, really unfortunate. It is great that we celebrate the good of the hobby but the dearth of integrity in the collecting community is larger than we would like to think. I wish it was different.
im new to comic collecting i just bought ghostrider 143 and uncanny xmen from 1985 for 15 bucks did i get ripped off? where can i buy decent comics for good prices? i mostly want to collect them for their cover art mostly into marvel midnight sons and the xmen
I bought that scarecrow 189 last month. The front is high grade after a clean and press 9.4 easy but the back cover has a water line and unfortunately it will hammer the grade. I bought it for the cover as it’s soo clean and will look awesome graded on the wall.
That sucks! Hopefully some good will come out of this. That seller lost a good customer to get quick cash. One day you'll get a mint copy of this comic, and you can unload the bad copy for some of the money back.
Reverse lookup his number. Pay the $1. It’ll give you his info. Send him a demand letter. It might scare him. Google them online, go to the images tab, and there you go. Sucks, dude. You seem like such an honest trader + and a respectable rep of the comic collecting spirit.
That's going to come to back on him. Trust and believe. When you do bad things to good people karma is real my friend 💯 And what he did to you will come back much worse on him.
Wow, that’s completely sketchy. I’m so sorry, James. I guess if this guy is willing to lose a friend for a few hundred dollars he’s probably an unhappy person. Got off cheap to get him out of your life, karma will catch him
SORRY THIS IS WHY I WALKED AWAY FROM BEING A DEALER BACK 2000 IT WASN'T FUN AND THE BIG 2 HAD LITTLE CARE FOR THE BASIC DEALERS AND DIAMOND MOVED ITS WAREHOUSE OUT OF NEW YORK. WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK NEXT TIME I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT WITH OUR HELP. WOODCHUCK TRUCKING OUT.
I know everyone is probably gonna put that guy on blast, but honestly that’s just a terrible thing to do. Especially after two years… That’s a long time! I hope you one day get your high grade! :)
I only bought one comic from Ebay and it was a Batman 189 about 10 years ago. Spent $40 or $50 on it and it goes for 10 times the amount now. It's around a 4.0 but Im glad I have a copy.
Damn that's a hard one to get over. Sad when people feel the only option is to screw over someone else in this hobby. I have a hard time trusting anyone if it's not graded or I can't hold it, even then I can be skeptical
It's not ha ha funny, but funny that I only trust you and Joe (360) to buy comics from online,.... You guys do right because you know the pain, so for that I appreciate you
Great story! Bad outcome. Silver age books always get me excited when you can browse through 80-90 different covers. Can you do a video on comics that people show that one comic that they would have the hardest time to let go.
That's horrible man. I just bought a Freddy vs Jason vs Ash Nightmare #1. Had the seller send me multiple pics. I should get it in the mail today. Hopefully it's the same book
Had young guy agree to put my vintage clothes on his account and split profits. 1st month had spreadsheet, paid me quickly (all in person), took another group of like 10 items. I saw them listed and some sold on his account but 2 years later has never responded to any messages or emails and is still actively listing. Never got full name, address, or formal contract.
It wouldn't matter how many pictures you ask for if the guy sent a different book than the one he took a picture of, maybe you didn't catch when James said he thinks that is what happened, "Bait & Switch", it's literally in the video title, lol
yeah man you need to be careful with those honey holes! you need to take the good with the bad! Getting lots of high grade books with the occasional low grader is ok, think of the other books you may have gotten if you had just ate that one and kept on. If he screwed you a 2nd time then I might have said something. but its tough to find those people willing to let go of the silver age books, especially in high grade condition. anyways, great content and happy 4th!
He might has sold out of his collection. It’s fucked up, but people who are getting out sometimes go out with a bang. He probably closed out all accounts and scammed multiple people to maximize profits.
Hey bro there's a store here in Michigan that has tons of nice silver age batman. I'm friends with the owner , I'll check on a 8 or above 189 batman for ya👍
Maybe if your lucky you can find someone with a higher grade and trade your copy to them along with cash or other books and that way you get your high grade and they still get a 189 that's complete
He probably gave up on the hobby after seeing the market drop. Kinda like a stock market scare but instead of holding and waiting he sold out. More than likely scammed a few other people too. Pretty sad to see those 2 years thrown down the drain but you’ll find a better seller to replace his spot.
Maybe he feels like the deals you got on the high grade books over the years were too sweet? So he was trying to recoup some losses, knowing that he won't be selling to you anymore? Kind of makes you want to know his side of the story.
Hey man that sucks but again.... some people don't think of grade. Never pay graded prices for raw books especially if you don't see it in person. Never buy any raw book for more than a 8 or 8.5 price. I think more younger/CGC lovers care about the grade more than getting the book. I mean getting ghosted sucks
James never said that he paid a graded slab price, he said he paid for a high grade copy, obviously raw, meaning the price of a NM raw grade not a 9.8 - 9.6 graded slab price man, maybe you just weren't totally paying attention when watching the video.
Sounds like DeLand seller on eBay... would buy autograph cards by Joe jusko... one time i ordered a wolverine/shatterstar prism and I we said we're good... cuz he didn't have it... but he had it on the ebay site... he blocked us... what a a$$ hole... he does have sum pretty Good stuff.
Nasty. Could be that the seller had sold all he was going to, knew he wasn't going to deal with you again and so he sent you a dud. Regardless, no-one deserves what happened to you.
Hello I wanted to as a question, I bought a avengers #48 first appearance of black knight and there is a staple missing but there was never any indication the staple was removed so I wanted to ask if I were to send it to cgc will it be counted as a defect and will it affect the grade?
If he has been mailing said books to you for the last 2 years then there's obviously a return address, yes? If so and it were me, there would be a road trip in my near future. Just sayin'.
Wow you should have asked the seller to please send more pictures to see the spine, front and back covers to reassure what your going to pay for or to maybe ask if you can see the comicbook in person and to meet up. Sorry Mint Hunter, it's like the stories you share lately with these scammers and bait and switches seems like these sellers are lazy and dishonest when it comes to the hobby especially towards the comicbook community, what a shame. But for the seller to block you was shady and messed up as if he knew what he was doing if it is true, and who knows if he even had two of the same copies one with the spine ticks thar you purchased and the other one you wanted that's a high grade with no spine ticks just to switch it up to keep the high grade to for himself, either or it's messed up and that's not how any should do business with an associate you trust especially for a couple of years or more to ruin that business relationship, which the seller of course had caused and did is rather wrong.
