Im sorry if I sound beginner. So I keep my back and neck straight while they attempt the triangle, but my body stays relatively low to the ground while my arms hold/fight for collar grips? Then when they tire out I go for the truck/back? - thanks for any tips.

There is a bit more to it than that :) I uploaded a seminar about the topic of pressure passing in 6 parts. Here is part 1: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BPe9ymr5NtQ.html You can find the other 5 parts also on my channel. It's about pressure passing in general and one part is about the triangle stack. Good luck!

@WimDeputterBJJ
@WimDeputterBJJ 3 года назад
That's indeed the idea behind it! If your posture and angle are good, you have nothing to fear from a triangle. The smart thing would be to back up and start playing open guard again. Most opponents will keep going for that trianlge however and wear themselves out completely.

Great fight Wim thanks again for sharing ! I've been working on "the king's gambit" at training. At my first attempt, I got triangled by my blue belt opponent. Indeed, I did not put my right hand properly under his armpit as you do. But at my second attempt (still against him), I did not get triangled and could hold on the position for the entire roll (3min) and get him in an uncomfortable position. So happy to succeed ! Now, in your fight, I see that you trapped his right leg in yours in order to reach his back. I did not think about that, and I'll try it next time. By the way, couldn't you submitted him with a "banana split" since you already had his left leg in your arms ?
@WimDeputterBJJ
@WimDeputterBJJ 2 года назад
The banana split isn't thta easy. Often going for it might leave you a bit vulnerable in the way that the opponent can reverse the truck. The truck was not the goal. It just happened cause the opponent turned away from the pressure. The initial goal is always the pass.
@juntjoonunya9216
@juntjoonunya9216 4 года назад
God that looked tiring. Sneaky route to back though. I shall try...
@WimDeputterBJJ
@WimDeputterBJJ 4 года назад
Not that tiring actually. You have to move slow, control your breathing. It's mostly tiring for the one on bottom :)
@AntonSpektorov
@AntonSpektorov 3 года назад
Wim, so your opponent's mistake was not getting an under-hook on your leg that allowed you to stack him? Hypothetically, if he managed to get an under-hook, the outcome could be very different, right? Keenan got tapped with a triangle in the European finals. So, it is a somewhat dangerous game, which obviously works for you.
@WimDeputterBJJ
@WimDeputterBJJ 3 года назад
Thank you for your question Anton! The biggest "mistakes" my opponent made, are: -pulling triangle while I have the right hand collar grip -not breaking that right hand collar grip -keeping his both shoulders on the floor -closing the triangle (thereby not having a foot on the hip to manage the distance) -not trying to manage distance -bending his spine (bad structure) which allows me to stack Once I'm in the triangle and have my opponent stacked, it isn't about mistakes on my partners end anymore. In order to get out, I really have to make a bad mistake at that point. All I have to when I'm at that point is "mirror" my opponent's movement and keep up the pressure until he concedes the pass. What do I mean with "mirror"? -keep my weight over him at 12 o'clock -if his head goes to the left (for example grabbing my leg) I rotate my hip in to the left -if his head goes to the right, I rotate my hip to the right -if he extents his hip, I extent my hip -if he bents his hip, I bent my hip There are some more details, but this most of it. Grabbing my leg is actually bad for my opponent if he goes first, cause once he does I can pin his arm and rotate my hip in. My weight will be in the center and he can't finish from there while he gets all my pressure and eventually will have to concede. However, should I rotate my left hip in first, my opponent could grab my leg. Because of the momentum I would be slightly of balance to the right and my opponent can use this to escape or adjust his triangle. I hope it was a bit clear 😊 You can check my seminar on the King's Gambit for a full breakdown: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l3Au3xGt2VU.html

@jacobday3826
@jacobday3826 3 года назад
@@WimDeputterBJJ Perhaps I'm just not seeing something, but it's genuinely looks like you may have attempted to bait, but may have got in a little too deep at the same time. You try to posture twice unsuccessfully in the beginning, a successful bait would result in an immediate posture. In saying that I'm just a purple belt, there's still so much I don't know so it's very possible that I'm just a little ignorant because this is also my preferred method of passing, so I may have an ego when it comes to this technique.
@WimDeputterBJJ
@WimDeputterBJJ 3 года назад
@@jacobday3826 I had a posture all the time. Just not an upright posture. The one thing that is important, is to keep the neck straight preferrably. Straight up is safest. But if they pull your head down, you can also raise your hip high and walk forward. In both cases your neck and will be straight and there is no choke.

Uh...? Is it anywhere implied I don't train wrestling? And also... never seen a wrestler or takedown specialist getting triangled? A triangle bait usually happens from the guard (as you see on the video). The guard, in other words, AFTER a takedown (or guardpull).

Ok. Now go and do that to a guy who knows how to triangle people and tell me what happened. I can’t believe people buy this bull crap. You got fucking triangled in a competition, somehow managed to defend it and then came up with a ridiculous explanation... For real now, is this like a massive troll or something?!
@WimDeputterBJJ
@WimDeputterBJJ 4 года назад
Whatever man. I do this exact pass / triangle defense on 99% of the people I train with and I can't count the times I won competitions with it. The last 10 years I remember exactly two competitions where I lost due to a triangle: -one where I messed up and got armbarred -one where I actually didn't get tapped, just lost due to an advantage the opponent got for the triangle.

Wim Deputter Just a guy who also trains, same as you. I was careful enough to discuss this with several of my “bjj bros” before making this comment. And yes, they all laughed. I thought I might be wrong but I wasn’t. And no, I didn’t ask any beginners. Only purple belts and up. Most of them active competitors. Maybe you know something that we don’t. I hardly think so but still... it’s a possibility. Have a good one mate. All and all, I didn’t mean no disrespect.

That’s a stupid concept , the guy just does not understand different control options from the triangle position. You let me triangle you and that’s yo ass, ima break that defensive posture and get you out of their. You in my guard not the other way around, im breaking you down thats jiu jitsu. This guys triangle control sucked. We don’t train to beat crappy bjj we train to beat good bjj , regardless don’t put yourself in someone’s triangle on purpose. You’ll never see anyone on a high level doing this why, because their comp is too good for that. Do that in practice when your working on triangle defense not in a tournament. If you get their by accident then you have it but not intentionally, that’s a bad habit and creates bad instincts

I train my triangles to beat the best triangle defense, that will not work against me. When I’m in my guard I’m in control , I’m dominate not you. I’m a head of the curve your playing behind the curve any other mentally is silly.if you beat me I really beat my self. That’s the reality on the high level. Real finishers finish one way or another.
