A few things I should mention. The beginning part of the video was much longer diving into ways we can help out, but I trimmed it short to discuss it another time, but you get an idea what's going on. As of now I'll continue to do my reviews and hopefully not offend anybody, but I'm sure some might be. What you do is your choice, but it's good to be aware that this and many other sets are being developed and made into retail sets.
This could very well be treading on a fine line, but the original set does not exist to purchase or buy, so discuss nicely in the comments and let me know what you think.

Really entertaining review! Love your sense of humor. Thanks for doing it man, always wanted to see what this "set" was all about. I didn't collaborate with them for this, and the design is so horrible that I would not approve of it either. From seeing certain aspects of this "set", whoever designed this might have been somewhat skilled (even though they must be colorblind), so I'm surprised they didn't catch on to some of the techniques I used to make the building sturdy. But I don't imagine the working conditions over there being good anyways. Unfortunately I can't release my instructions yet, cause I'm not old enough to sell them. XP (Some of the parts can't be bought in those colors either, sorry!)

I’m so glad you found me and I’m happy at least you found the review entertaining. It definitely does suck you had no say but I’m glad you’re not attacking me like some designers have. We should really link up somehow and try to collab. I’d rather have your designs (if you have others) be sold legitimately even though they won’t be Lego bricks themselves and there is an entire community open to buying sets that’s not Lego bricks themselves. Not all of us want to bricklink it. Anyway I’m here and open to future suggestions and I’ve been thinking about working with others to get sets maid. Keep in touch and don’t stop building please and don’t let this set being sold put you down. Let’s figure out a way to counter this!

@@brickmeupscottie Thanks! Don't worry, stuff like this gets me motivated even further. I must admit I was kinda hoping for my Doughnut Shop to be copied, (I take it as free exposure) but even so I'm glad they did a bad job at it, it would be scary if they were able to create an exact reproduction. What you've mentioned sounds really neat, and I'm definitely interested to know more about that. Would Facebook be a good place to link up?

Hey Scottie, thanks for the review man, I think you should not feel forced to support the designers, you are not the one stealing their content, you should support them if you really want to. That being said, I'm happy that you purchase the original instructions when possible.

I love supporting them. Would do it many times over again. I just want to be able to have a set in front of me with a book and build. Sourcing bricks is a pain and other will agree. Now if I’m the one who helps get them made and sells them that could be very interesting

@@brickmeupscottie it was a great build, i really enjoyed it. No problems, only 1 sticker was to big but this could be fixed by adding one extra 1x2 tile. I recommend this set!

I love your goals that you want to MOC and set up your city. Very cool, no pressure though do what you want IMO. EXE Sandbox design is 1000% better IMO, I wish the bricks could be sourced, his colours and details and ideas are way better. Good call on the rushed URGE product. The things on the roof are solar panels not satellite dishes I think.

I think that’s because they’re just looking at his images and guessing his layout hence the rush feel. If he did work with Urge on this then I’m not sure what happened. Tbh honest it’s not terrible bad but yea just could’ve been way better.

There is no way! The original one is much better looking! There is more detail there. The Urge one I thought I would like it but after your review I think I am not going to buy it. At first I was amazed about this bake shop. But there are no that much of details at all, really empty places - bake shop itself looks so so simple... as you said, really flimsy and I think it going to break apart... and it is falling very quickly and easily. I thought that will be a good set but now...... Only thing that I liked about it is the exterior of the building. I do have the Parisian restaurant! It is one of my favorite modular building of all times! Really great set! And the Diner one is also very beautiful and I like it too. But didn't have the chance to get it. But I found it in a very good price! (Lego brand) and hope for more modulars buildings in the next 2 months! (Saw that you got some - you uploaded a post on RU-vid) and I don't like the corner garage at all! Looks like an industrial plant inside a residential street.... but the new modular - book store looks very beautiful! Bookshelf in the third floor (the bake shop) looks the same as the big bang theory lego set (21302) thanks for the help and the review scottie!

Honestly, I was so disappointed to learn that this was not an original design by Urge, but a stolen design. I understand that things like this happen and I understand why, but.... given that Xingbao managed to produce its own Asian-themed modulars and what Toolbox has done, I hoped so much that this new company Urge was coming up with its own modular designs. But Kudos to Scottie for tracking down the original designer and giving them credit, and for also pointing out the way that his original version differed/was better from the Urge modular.

It's great to hear that your going to start to build your city, it'll probably going to look amazing when your done, I can't wait to see that later. I do know that cobi has a Chinese brand copying some of their sets like the panzer four and tiger 131. You can find the two videos from shark munch reviews he showed the quan guan sets next to his cobi tanks. But this set is amazing, there is a bakery in Mew York called Carlo's bakery so it could be off of that place but different design, but he goes by buddy for a nickname. It dose have detail everywhere which is nice. This was a nice video Scottie. See you in the next video

@@brickmeupscottie you're welcome Scottie, I'm just sharing what I've found. I only watched two out of the three videos comparing both brands, I watched the panzer four and the tiger 131 video. I haven't watched the one about the KV-1. But he says he likes cobi more than quan guan, and he's pretty straight forward about his reviews. Hope you enjoy his videos, Scottie. As much as I do.

The original Exe Sandbox Moc definitely looks better and refined with a better designed interior. It’s definitely unfortunate another company has copied another persons work or at the very least as you said heavily inspired by his design. The Urge versions exterior looks pretty good from a distance at least. I hope the brand will do right by switching to original designs.

Here’s my prediction. They’ll do a few more sets probably taken from ideas (unless they really did get permission or collaborate), which I know some designers have, and if the sets are popular enough and they’ll start making original ideas. Seems to be a norm.

The thing on the top left of the shelves looks like the Green Lantern from the Big Bang Theory set, but in a lovely mint green. The mint green lantern. Great review, thanks. Glad I held off on ordering this one.

Scottie, thanks again for a fantastic video. I was originally excited about this set and was thinking about purchasing it....and I may still do so, but somewhere down the line. You're right, it is a slippery slope when it comes to these off brand sets and trying to figure out what their provenance is. Combining the fact that the set is essentially stolen with the fact that it doesn't look nearly as good as the original have made me rethink getting this set. I just can't get over those black floors. They flat out just don't look good. When you compare the seats and tables, it really is no comparison. I think you nailed it on the head when you said that the set from URGE just looked rushed. I completely agree with you. I guess I'll wait to see what happens.

Hey Scottie, Happy New Year fellow small brick enthusiast. I like the idea of the Bake Shop but it’s a bit to flimsy for me, and I really don’t like the flesh colour at all. Yuk! Will you be getting the new Lego Bookstore/Townhouse set? Mine is on the way, can’t wait! So excited to see you city. It will be nice to see a city with sets other than Lego. Not that Lego is bad, it’s just that, everybody’s city looks basically......the same. Thanks for being here, I appreciate your channel.

I don’t like how most of the modulars have this big space in the back for an alley or whatever. There’s so much wasted space and the building could be much bigger but they’re not, they’re all claustrophobic inside. Only a few of the older ones utilize the whole baseplate well enough, like the Grand Emporium, and the Palace Cinema to a lesser degree.

First off happy new year to you too. I was cooking to tell you about the bakery in new York with that same name but Emmett already beat me to the punch. But I do like that the inside of the building is tile is tiled, I like that very munch. There's so munch detail which is great to. The color tones are great looking. I'm so excited on seeing the upcoming city you're going to do later, that'll be awesome too it when is done. I liked this one. One the bright side of these types of sets they don't come with minifigures so you could use what ever you have, to me that is better since I have so many. That's just me thinking. Anyway see you in the next video Scottie.

I think they may have based this set off Carlo’s Bake Shop in Hoboken, NJ (from the tv show Cake Boss). The store sign looks similar to the sign on the real building, and the real building upper floors also has that similar light skin tone color.

Lego lol. Seriously though, most of the designs unfortunately are not original...they are stolen and designers are pissed. With that being said I think Mould King is probably the best with variations. It really depends what look you're looking for? Most have a Moc feel so the ones from Zhe Gao have an older vintage look to them. Urge is another brand that is putting out a lot, but their builds (even stolen) aren't perfect and the older sets like this one have some issues. hope that helps.

Scottie, Where can I buy the urge brick sets? I ordered a Urge Aquarium on Lepin World and I never received it and its been three months. I wanted to see if there is any alternate sites I can order from.

Lepin world isn’t really an official store and I’ve heard many bad things about it but some orders have been Ok. I think their problem is they list all these unreleased sets too early. Companies that steal MOC plans and think they get good quality sets that way don't understand how much work it is to change a MOC into a production model. A MOC builder builds for the end look and not for the build experience. That's why Lego Ideas sets are usually different in build compared to the idea because Lego takes the idea and then rebuilds it based on their guidelines. Why don't they just start their own version of Bricklink where we can send them the parts list and their factories give us a set of freshly printed parts for the MOC instructions? Then they wouldn't break any copyright laws and the MOC community would grow.

Very good point! Yes totally a MOC and the same goes for these new series from Zhe Gao which are sets from brickative. I enjoyed the ones from rebrickable but you’re right MOCs are far from complete. The good news is we’re currently in the process of actually doing what you’re suggesting but we need time for the logistics but soon we’ll be able to source bricks for everybody.

For so many pieces, you would expect more details in the upper floors. The color threw me off right from the start. Not sure I want something skin colored next to my other buildings. Kinda freaky. The overall design would be ok if the structure was more stable. Deer would thrash the place.

I agree. I was like wtf when I realized the insides were left so empty. That skin tone color still freaks me out. They should’ve just gone pink.

If I had known that this model is practically a stolen MOC, I wouldn't have bought it. The original design has much nicer colours - what is that kind of red called? Sand red? Very nice! This one needs much work and detailing.

Lots of tape and prayers hahah. You can forget trying to keep them whole as a set. Even by car they’ll fall apart. I guess if you wanted to you could section parts off, bubble wrap them then put them into giant ziplocks. That way if they do fall apart they’ll still be within the bubble wrap and the bagZ I wish you the best of luck!

The interiour, especially the kitchen and the two sofas, are pretty similiar to the ones from the Lego Corner Garage! And the weird shelf is stolen from the Big Bang Theory-set!

This is their first set and yes unfortunately it was stolen from a design but not from Lego ideas. The good news is I’ve gotten in touch with the original designer so I hope we can collaborate to make original sets.

Possession of stolen good is an legal issue and handled differently in different countries. Doing it knowingly is morally wrong. Ideally you ask the creator if he sells / shares his instruction to you and buy the parts on secondary market like bricklinks. I dont share your confusion by not knowing "what you shall do with it". As long you don't have the consent of the creator you are , , ,

The manufacturer should really take care of this issue. The other thing is other designers may have collaborated because there are some that have. For this set there is not manual that I’m aware of otherwise I would buy it. I have done that’ several times already with rebrickable. I’m a person that does not like to source from bricklink and would rather have the set ready. You don’t have to share my confusion and you’re welcome to call me what I am and no matter what I will respect what you say.

Hey Scottie. Thanks for the review. I have to be totally honest. The build is flimsy, the colors are atrocious. Frankly, I think a lot of the features are lacking consistency and generally... the set is IMHO, a big FAIL. I'm much less than impressed. You assessment of this set was a lot fairer than I would have given it. Of course, I realize you can't always make sets to please and that said, thanks for laying it out for us.

I agree with you and I could be a lot more aggressive about it but in the end it still was an ok build and sits nicely away in the corner of the shadows with that skin tone illuminating brightly. Hahah. Surprisingly some people really like it, I guess you’d have to moc the hell out of it though.
