Shaw has a damn good band director..His arrangements are college-caliber,and every time they come to Mardi Gras they are on point..Damn good band!!!!

Which it seems to look & sound like by way of the comments.I know about Shaw because i saw them in person in cleveland last year at my family reunion & that's how i found out about them. And according to my relatives from cleveland old heads and all. They said Shaw been puttin it down since the late 60's all the way up to the mid 90's when they were a full band & not all brass & marched at least 200 during those years believe it or not.

Greetings from the Sound of Distinction: Baker has a darker sound when they aren't overblowing...but all of the bands have an intensity in their sound that most band directors want. They are really clean...you can tell there is a lot of teaching going on at these schools. Keep up the good work gentlemen. Praying that my program can get the exposure that these programs have gotten in the past 3yrs.

why the sarcasm?, all you have to go is look at a video of them any other time of the year and you'll hear those trumpets are nowhere to be found but yet every time they come down south they have a super section, wtf, just saying..

Oh yeah and this too. Somebody had raised the question in an earlier comment, weather or not if scotlandville had any i-pads up or any cell phones or camcorders recording their performance. The answer to that is hell to the yeah they did. If you go to 23:14 all the way to 25:21 of this video you will clearly see a lady looking very scotlandville-ish wit a ginormous screen recording them. So i wonder why she didn't put that middle of the street battle up? Hhhmmmmmmm??

Shaw is really good, I heard them play that rock with me tonight by Freddie Jackson during the parade same day as the Zulu parade. Very impressed from what I heard especially from they low brass section !

One thing that shaw does well is the simple fact, that they "Dare To Be Different" . Because with that 2nd song that they did , they jumped straight out the box with that one. And that was a good move by Shaw's BD to do that the way it was done. What that says is that Shaw has artistic development within their program and it shows. Some people wouldn't understand that move but a lot more would. It just shows me so much about that band.

Had to watch the end of this again lol. Scotlandville i'm not knocking your band in any way. But the purpose of a "drive-by" is to take 'em out plan and simple. When you run a "power move" on 'em it means just that. Use "power". There is no way that Shaw should have been heard when you all marched by them while they played W.A.B. Shaw was heard just as loud and clear as all outdoors. This is just an observation. But good stuff Scotlandville. Just not on Shaw's level yet.

Why would we want to sound like just a high school? The goal is to make them think we sound too good to just be high schoolers which we (slv ) has clearly done

Why do they have these kids out here just blasting away? They're making noise, not music. I come from an era when just being the loudest wasn't being the best. This is sad...they're high school trying to sound like college bands.

not D Riding. i'm just saying when you bring up a controversial claim on a group with out backing it up with proof! it warrants a discussion. You was complaining about there sound like a band can't make a jump in mid season. it's the truth and not a sob story. I found them on MSNBC that's all!

At this point its quite obvious people won't give us credit no matter what we do or how Well we do it. Point of it all is unless you can get out there and do what we had to do time get here be quiet

And somewhere between the mid to late 90's up into the early 2000's they had like 10 people in their band at one time and was way smaller than what they are now and was pretty much garbage. I mean that's what my family said. And that went on like that until the BD that they have now came along & changed all that. So what i'm sayin is if Shaw can go thru all of that & come out shinning like they do & get all the attention that get. And get to travel around the country like they do.

This was a good 3 way battle!! Each band put up a good fight, so claiming outright victories will be biased people! Baker was pretty clean with a nice sound and Scotlandville was bringing it. Shaw was bring that heat as well

lol this was a trip straight disrespect from the bands. Scottlandville sound is a beast. they was on it but I think shaw did the best then scottlandville school in red was last to me. shaw sounded really good and dance steps were all together had good song selection band director was fine to. I hate their were no dancers though to battle along with the band.

Kids, Kids, Kids. Its just Band. Shaw also marches many, many old heads as well its kool cause they sound good. Big Ups to my local high school bands Scotlandville and Baker, yall put it up there for real. Its all about representing what school you love. Im trying to get my little nephew in someones Band. Any takers? He's in middle school and plays Tuba.

That second song that shaw played. I heard the united states marine corp band play that same song or one very similar to it. That just tells me the level that their on with their music. That's very interesting indeed.

Dammit I'm not going to say this again...nowhere in this video or any other video can you point to a player in my band who is not in high school. Yes alumni walked with band, hell it was about 10 of them. But in these battles and clips you see, not 1 person playing a horn is alumni. My principal is very strict on these things so instead of taking credit from these KIDS who's putting in the work to get better at what I want from them, accept the fact that my band is not your typical BR band

Yo idk what you heard Lawrence Brown but shaw did not even play out on half of the songs they played...first off the songs they play few to no colleges play them, their range on their instruments are ridiculous for the high school level, they have great tone, they had the least tubas but still produce the loudest sound than the other schools tubas along with greater tone and range....so before you try to dog a school thats better than all those southern wannabes look at all the factors

Great job to all the schools for the hard work that they put in. It's not about winning or losing but, the effort that was put forth. And great job to all the directors for representing there school with musicianship and leadership. As a band parent I can honestly say hard work was put in by Scotlandville and it has shown. No outside band members, only willing parents to assist with chaperoning the kids. REGARDLESS of opinions, give all of these kids credit for there work not there school !!!

Im from New Orleans and ima say frm what i see below ALL SLV ppl are being biased ! Ohio is a whole different style New Orleans has a Different and BR has a Different style, Learn Them Study Them Before Judgment, If Walker Was There Wit Them, Yall Opinions Would Be All On Walker. . .Again DIFFERENT STYLES So Yu Have To Look at The Bigger Picture ALL bands are DIFFERENT ! Imma make this unbiased as possible. Imma speak the truth. I'm from B.R. Louisiana. I wanna see L.A. Bands do good. But shaw got this. Baker sounded sooo good as usual. Shaw had the edge. The arrangements was nice. The band was just uniform and well disiplined. Both shaw and baker had power and sounded go. SLV on da other hand sounded wretched. It was horrid. U would think all the alumni and grown ass men Jeremy Conner was marching they would be a lot better.

And to shaw..... Keep on slappin them haters with hot wings! Spicey hot... buffalo style... of the thick and juicey variety... not hard and crunchy, but juuuuuuust ryte !!!

not true. shaw's band director is from what I here a workaholic! they don't have a feeder program.2 he gets kids in the summer who never played an instrument period, work those kids over the summer and the first product is what you see in the fall they progress form there.3. I found out he don't even teach a band class, he is an administrator during the day, practice with those kids after school. hats off to this guy! no prior experience, competing the way they do. that says a lot about shaw!

Shaw is really not as good as y'all making them out to be. Y'all are quick to talk about how questionable slv and baker sounded but I heard a lot of questionable notes from shaw as well. And those trumpets are doing to much to play those thin ass notes. They're good but this by far wasn't a massacre. Slv and baker held their own and you're fucking deaf if you think otherwise.

When you are doing something good and the right way, the haters will come out and attack. It was done to baker regarding judges, and now me regarding my power. I love all my haters so just keep doing what you do. At the end of the day I'll continue educating my students and improving my program. Goodnight.
