Hey guys and welcome todays video which is all about Bakuchiol.. I would love to know your thoughts on this ingredient which I think personally works bet alongside low strength retinols so please leave me a comment below. Sending you so much love xxxxxxxxxx
Dr. Dray just did a video on this last week. She says bakuchiol is NOT a replacement for retinols. That you will not get the same results with bakuchiol that you do with retinols. This is a video she did about that article in Allure about some 7 skincare things to watch in 2022 or something like that. I think she wanted to make that very clear because these magazines sometimes stretch "the truth" about certain ingredients and get people all hyped up for nothing. Seen it so many times in the past as magazines do this type of article every January. Happy Sunday to all!
Yes I totally agree its not exactly comparable to retinol (certainly not to prescription strength ones) but i tried it and it worked well for me and i saw some good results.. I think if you can't tolerate retinols then this is a great option, for everyone else i would stick to the traditional retinols for sure.. Hope all is amazing with you and sending you lots of love xxxx
@@beckyenglish4783 exactly! it’s only an antioxidant. i don’t get why people keep saying it’s more than that, and that it even has anti-aging benefits 🤨 wth
When I was reading about how to improve the skin texture on my eyelids (they are very crepey), the recommendation was a retinol eye cream. With sensitive skin, I'm not comfortable with this, so I've been looking into bakuchiol. Thank you, Rob, for another video packed full of information! You have be "smashing" it in 2022!!!!🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh thank you so so much Patti.. Can't believe we are already half way through January nearly lol.. I think this could be a good option for you. I never thought about putting it on the eye lid but mine are super sensitive too so will have to try it.. Sending you so much love xxxxxx
Thank you for the video, lots of helpful info here. I am someone with sensitive skin and my skin reacts really poorly to Bakuchiol. Stinging, redness, itching, etc. However, I am able to use Adapalene every other night no problem. One thing I've heard from dermatologists is that plant-derived ingredients like Bakuchiol can be more problematic to those with sensitive skin than synthetically derived ones. So imo this is not necessarily a sensitive skin-friendly ingredient. There is also some concern about the unsustainable farming required to produce Bakuchiol.
My favorite bakuchiol product for my dry, sensitive skin is from BYBI. It’s 1% bakuchiol in squalane. I mix a few drops into my moisturizer and I’m good to go. I can’t say how much it’s doing in terms of anti-aging, but it makes my skin feel really nice and moisturized.
Hi hun, happy Sunday.. I haven't tried the BYBI one but its on my list for sure and i can't wait to.. Thanks for sharing and sending you lots of love xxxxx
It is not good to add other ingredients to jars with moisturiser. It will not mix equally well. Better to apply layers so u know all face neck areas received desired ingredients.
@@joannakowalska9247 The BYBI product is a booster and is meant to be mixed with a moisturizer. However, not in the jar but in your hand, right before applying it.
I’m deciding to actually give that product another honest try, as I only used it for a month when it first came out years ago. Didn’t see any results then, but hoping a longer trial will yield results. I can’t use retinol or any derivatives; I’m only hoping it at least helps acne (there is research that mentions how well it works with salicylic acid).
I LOVE the Paula's Choice! Also love that it comes in an airless pump (that's not see-through) because both Retinol and Bakuchiol are very unstable to air and light.
I've been using the Paula's Choice 0.3% Retinol + 2% Bakuchiol for the past five months. I'm still on my first bottle and haven't had to repurchase yet, which justifies the price point IMO. I love using the product. I always feel like my skin is super smooth when I wake up and it's definitely helped me to get rid of some of my impurities and uneven skintone. I alternate between that, an AHA and a BHA and I think the combo works really well for me.
Thanks for this! I immediately discounted bakuchiol as I use differin (and I associate the word bakuchiol with the herbivore scandal, oh the irony!) but this makes me think again - especially the Versed and PC products!
Oh i know the Herbivore scandal didn't do bakuchiol any good.. I personally stick to my adapolene but this is good to use alongside or in conjunction with for sure.. Thank you so much for watching and sending you lots of love xxxxx
From what I understand…There have been (a couple) live human studies comparing it to retinol (not prescription strength) and it was found comparable (to non prescription strength retinol) results when it came to photoaging, but there are other things people use retinoids for- like acne, skin smoothing, skin turnover, and collagen synthesis (they have studied bakuchoil more in the pétri dish for this and think it’s similar to retinol) . So in other words retinol (specifically tretinoin) can do more especially for acne than bakuchiol in theory but it hasn’t had enough testing yet to make the same medical claims. That’s why it’s just a cosmetic ingredient for now which means that the products will vary greatly and it’s hard to know what you’re actually getting. But it is undisputedly a good antioxidant and gentle. Honestly I am someone who never had irritation from over the counter retinol (no results either) but who suffered from peeling from tretinoin, but I was finally able to get it under control with the way I applied it (sandwich method to dry skin including Cicaplast balm, ramping up to every night) and it’s completely gone away I am at the highest strength .1%. I feel like I have extremely sensitive skin (even super gentle products have been known to burn my skin before) and if I can make it work almost anyone can. From what I understand you can use both at the same time no harm done !
This is so so so true.. I think the results speak for themselves and i got some good ones from bakuchiol.. HOWEVER i don't think the results are exactly the same as retinol and i think for people who can tolerate retinol they should stick with it. Bakuchiol is a great option for those who can't though or to supplement and i hope that came across in the video... Sending you lots of love xxxxxx
So informative, thank you. I've been using a 3% bakuchiol (only 2 ingredients! squalane and bakuchiol) serum for 20 months now, and really can't say if it's been effective in the anti-aging dept because I try and use other things too. After about 2 months I did feel that my skin was brighter, but the real reason I continue to use it, and will repurchase again, is because my dry mature skin loves squalane! Just drinks it in. So I figure since I'll continue using squalane anyway, might as well have bakuchiol in it. Happy Sunday, I hope everyone had a nice weekend.
@@YamileYemoonyah It's from a small US company called Char's Effective Skincare. I haven't tried any of her other products, though I do love the one I'm using, "Ultra Simple Bakuchiol Serum"
Hi hun.. I don't think bakuchiol is a, substitute for prescription strength retinols and i hope that came across in the video. I think it could be a great option for those who can't tolerate retinol as an alternative.. I got some good results but i always went back to my adapolene.. I hope all is amazing with you and sending you lots of love xxxxxx
Hey Rob, I 'gently caressed the like button' and became the 100th like. Interesting information on Bakuchiol which suggests perhaps one should consider incorporating the product into the skin care routine if retinols are too troubling for your skin. Sending love and well wishes. I think we need MORE PUPPY pics . . . just sayin' ~ Paula
Haha more puppy pics can always be arranged. Thank you so so much for your support hun and happy Sunday.. I hope you have an amazing start to the week.. Love you xxxxx
My skin is rosacea-prone and super sensitive and by going slowly and sandwiching I’ve even been able to tolerate 0.025% tretinoin with minimal purging. I started years ago with low percentage of retinol and slowly made my way up to tretinoin. I’m glad alternatives exist but imho most people can even tolerate tretinoin if they go slow, buffer and have patience.
It sounds like you have done everything right for your skin and im so glad its working for you.. Thank you for sharing and sending you lots of love xxxxx
I totally agree with you hun.. Using it with retinol gives the best results.. I hope your having an amazing start to the new year and sending you lots of love xxxxx
I adore the Medik8 Bakuchiol peptides, it really gives an instantly brightening effect and works wonderful for skin elasticity. The name is a little misleading as it doesn't contain any peptides, but instead "peptide precursors" - so I would not use it as a stand alone peptide serum. But still, highly recommend for extra pampering
I was so happy to see that you already posted this bakuchiol review after I just asked about it on the livestream! Thank you so much for your recommendations
Though I know the studies on it are limited I'm still going to keep using it cause how amazing it makes my skin feel. And even though I know we're supposed to avoid touching our faces, I still touch mine way more often than I look at it lol so that matters. I absolutely love the Biossance one (though not thrilled with them calling it "phyto retinol") and if it were in my budget would use it every day but I'm broke lately so I've tried Inky List which I do appreciate that it doubles as a moisturizer and more recently started using one from Good Molecules in an oil which is nice for the winter dryness.
I am totally the same as you hun.. I know many people question the studies and their validity but the results I see in my skin from using it is all the proof i need.. Sending you lots of love xxxxx
It's about proof. People need different levels of proof: some want a scientific consensus, others go for any industry study as good enough. Personally I'm of the scientific type and to me bakuchiol is an antioxidant and that's it.
Hi hun, this is a really good point.. Personally i like to read the reports then give it a go and see what the results are.. I got great results from bakuchiol but i wouldn't say its as strong as retinol but that's just my opinion.. Sending you lots of love xxxxx
The Retinol I started with had bakuchiol in it. I didn't realize that till I read the ingredients. Now using Tretinoin from Curology. I'll probably add bakuchiol back in. From what I read they may increase the effectiveness of each other.
Might be the baby brain but why has no one mentioned Bakuchiol is pregnancy safe whereas retinol/retinoids are not? Also if you have oily skin I wouldn’t recommend Medik8, broke me out every time I reached for it. Facetheory have a good one :)
Thank you so much for sharing your experience hun that's so useful to know.. Bakuchiol is pregnancy safe but i always say to check with your professional first. Sending you lots of love xxxxx
How are the mechanisms of working different? Dr Dray made it quite clear the evidence is just not there for this product atm. I like evidence based ingredients as I have in the past spent so much money on ingredients for which there is little evidence. Retinols have so much evidence. Having said that my indeed labs retinol reface has bukuchiol and it’s a great retinol. You didn’t mention this and it’s a drug store price (to its core)- Paula’s choice and model 8 are not!!
Hi hun thank you so much for sharing your perspective.. I always think you have to use what works for you... I used to love the indeed labs retinol but haven't used it for ages.. I got great results from it so would recommend it for sure and im so glad its working for you..sm sending you lots of love xxxxx
Great video Rob! I wish I had Boots in my area Welp! My dermatologist actually told me to alternate it with tretinoin for maximum results. I have TIL bakuchiol and plan to use it in the morning only. Sending you lots of love. ❤😘
Oh my, just found your channel and doing a bit of binging. Started with one on peptides. I'm a 'lab rat' sort and have tried so.many.products and brands along the way and try to stay up-to-date on research. My skin was fab and receptive until a few years ago. I tried tretinoin for fine lines and hyperpigmentation but found it irritated my LUNGS (literally would feel flu-ish and be coughing the next day) and read up that it was a possible side effect. So, I decided to switch to Bakuchiol. Haven't quite been amazed by a product yet but have only tried Sephora brand 1% and Nacomi 2%. Perhaps a higher concentration would be better but I also find my skin looks/feels a bit drier and that is never good, we want dewy and plump. Maybe I should re-visit Vitamin C. I've been trying different moisturisers and supplements as well to address the dryness. Anyway, a bit of an overshare but think the comment section can handle it. Your vids are a pleasure to watch. Thx!!!
Hi hun thanks for watching... I don't think the two are the same and nor are the results, especially when you are talking prescription strength retinols and i hope this came across in the video.. I do think however that bakuchiol can be a great option for people who can't tolerate retinol and i did get some benefits from using it.. Sending you lots of love x
Whenever I hear bakuchiol I freak out getting flashbacks of herbivore scandal then I start laughing because I remember dr dray naming it " hoochey booshey bakuchy"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great Video! Informative and too the point. I will be subscribing but just thought I’d stop and say Hi. Look forward to seeing more from you. Best Wishes from Norwich! X
I love everything medik8 lol but my wallet doesn't 😂.. Happy Sunday hun (well Monday morning in Aus) and hope you have an amazing start to the week xxxxxx
@@MadAboutSkin haven’t had but about a week. They didn’t prescribe a very strong dose so I am not sure it is going to be worth it. It is also formulated in basically Vaseline so that isn’t great either. Might stick with the adapoline and hydroquinone. It has taken a while but I think I am finally getting to where I know what my skin needs. You have helped me so much with that! ♥️. It’s funny, I feel like I know you from seeing hanging out on RU-vid with you. Lol. Keep showing up pictures of that beautiful new furbaby!! Love and hugs! xxxooo
I’m intrigued to know if the Medik8 Bakuchiol Peptides can be used in a morning routine with NIOD CAIS? I can’t seem to find an answer to this anywhere. If you can help that would be amazing!!
Hi, I watched some videos that says retinols are bad for eyes, and it is best not to apply it around the eyes. I am wondering if bakuchiol is safe around the eyes?
Unfortunately they don’t ship the Boots serum to Europe. :( And the other options are way too expensive for me. Is the Bakuchiol serum from Revolution Skincare London any good?
Hi hun thank you so much for your support. I would use the vitamin c in the morning and then the azelaic acid and retinol in the evening.. Azelaic first then retinol.. I hope this helps and sending you lots of love xxxx
