He always got standing ovations from the opposite team. Everybody loved him. U dont see that now at all

It's incredible today to see the respect he got from opposing teams players, coaches, and fans. There have been players as good as Cal but few who were as respected for what they brought to the game.

Top 5 greatest players I ever watched. Not just because of his amazing consistency at defense and offense, but the way he played so hard and played thru inuries. 2,632 consecutive games I'm sure weren't always a walk in the park.

I remember being a senior in high school and my teacher, knowing I was an O's fan, said "Wow, Ripken had a nice game last night, huh." And living in MA, didn't know what happened as it took place the night before in Seattle. And there was no iphone and internet access yet back then. SoI read it in the paper that hit hit 3 bombs and drove in 8. This game is up there in his career as one of his best individual games alongside the 6/13/99 Atlanta game where he went 6-6.

I saw these 3 home runs by chance just in this bawl park; all of the audiences including Seattle fans were sending giving a standing ovation, but I didn't know why at that time. This game was just 2 weeks before he broke the world record of consecutive games.
