The pro surfing scene needs Balaram, it's nice to see someone get some exposure that isn't the status quo cookie cutter Californian/Hawaiian surfer boy/fashion model that the industry knows and loves to promote. Pumped for this guy!

East coast surf culture is embued way more win diversity since its directly coinciding with a much bigger, hip hop / city heritage. Culture that started all the way from the original 13 colonies. Wildly different from the west coast. Part of west coast/Cali culture IS surfing. Not the same case for the east coast, that culture existed long before having anything to do with surfing. So in that way the surfing world, which is built more from Hawaiian and west coast and oz culture has a hugely different look from what shaped up on the east coast. Very original in comparison to what the surf world looks like with the rest of the world. But honestly I don't like it, personally.
